Most of the more hostile reactions seem to be more of a result of frustrations over the lag caused by the influx and the fact that as with all major fandoms their tend to be more vocal obnoxious members of the community. But as long as your respectful and obey the rules people will calm down over time.

If any youtuber with 1m subs or more mencions NS,the servers are going to blow up harder than the oil cars involved in the La Megantic,Canada train derailment,circa 2013.

Then more than a million of nations would appear on NS, tbh, if Nationstates is becoming more popular, many YouTubers would mention the game or something like that.

Honestly, I hope NS becomes more mentioned by Youtubers. I liked this wave of new nations just a little, and I really hope this is the start of a new era of growth for NS.

Large influxes of new players at once have, in general, been less than spectacular times overall for most long-term NSers. This has lent itself to a portion of NSers being somewhat leery of large influxes of new players particularly if stemming from one single point of reference. I, for one, welcome the new folks and hope that at least some of you will like it here and stick around and become active members of our community.

A lot of these posts are absolutely disheartening. NS is far from a non-toxic website, even before influxes of newcomers. Watching people go off about "the newcomers" like this is pretty telling. I feel like NS is way too self-centered at times, with all the same old blood having the same spats every week. New blood could be a very good thing:

New blood can be very good, for activity and for creating new regional cultures. But every new player should beware that this place is a festering pit of snakes. None of us longtimers are here because we want to be here. We're here because it's the only thing we have left...

Just kidding. But people should be careful, especially new players coming en masse from a youtuber who I only ever remember making lacklustre Civ 5 videos. This game's community can be wonderful, but also incredibly toxic, and I'm afraid it's chewed up and spit out a fair few people.

Even as someone who was frustrated at the lag and new video, can I suggest to be as welcoming as possible to new players, teach them what we do and how, integrate them into the community and let them join us in our regions and forums. Everyone was a new player once, remember?

I feel like a lot of the new players would probably focus more on issues and the stuff that Drew focused on in his video. The forums and the more RP-heavy stuff that I personally enjoy more weren't featured in the video (if i recall correctly) so therefore I think that those parts of the site might not see a major spike in activity.

However, I'm sure a decent chunk of his audience would be interested in that stuff (Drew's channel is based off of historical games, after all) so there might still be an influx. Regardless it's good to see more players I'm sure.

Well, I'm a new player, and the moment a veteran player offered me to join a regional RP with their own custom map I immediately joined.
So yeah, it depends. But most people who watch drew are already interested in history and politics, since the games he plays on his channel are mainly focused on that. It's just the initial bombardement with new inormation that might be the cause why some people don't even get to the forums and RP's and will either keep focusing on issues or simply quit the game after a while.

Hello, I don't usually post on the forums, I just want to give my honest opinion about this. (Because of said inexperience on the forums, I may make a bit of formatting mistakes)

I know the people bashing newcomers in this thread are probably the vocal minority (correct me if I'm wrong), but I do feel like some people are overreacting, and are cynical to new players to NS. To be honest, I feel like they don't really do any harm to NS at all, with the exceptions of the immature people who make overly obnoxious nation names. What do you think?
