Since I haven't been poked about it I assume it isn't about the SPSR :p

That’d be a good one, but nope. Besides the shorter the coup, the shorter the essay. :p

I bet it's about the glory of the UDL and that traitor Mall that destroyed it.

So in conclusion, XKI invaded Osiris to prevent a raider Osiris, and UDL invaded Balder to prevent Europeia/LKE associated people from being in charge there.

0/2 there on successful goal completion.

I avoided a lot of high level analysis in this essay because I wanted to create a primary body of research and history that others could read and draw their own conclusions from —- rather than a Churchill-esque retelling of events.

I think the UDL position was that the future of Balder was indeterminable and deciding its direction was not in our mandate — hence my back room jokes about it “all going to shit from there.” I don’t know if I understood just to what extent Balder would go in terms of a different direction, but I clearly understood that Balder would ultimately charter its own path.

The focus, rather than being a long view, was on the first few weeks of Balder’s existence . We wanted to provide external support for a civilianized democracy. It was my belief that if an external power like the UDL didn’t command the delegacy in those early hours, another external power would fill that vacuum with the aim of creating a colonial dictatorship.

In this sense, I was thinking more in terms of a liberal and a proponent of self-government, rather than as a defender or a partisan. Indeed, I know that I was uncomfortable with the role as interim delegate because I was not fully certain in my own head whether it was compatible with the ethics of defending and regional sovereignty. I remember being very keen to pass power to an elected official and vacate the delegacy — and I did not use the ban or suppression tools because I did not believe I had the legitimate right to make use of them.

My vague memory of the politics of Balder was the debates in Nov-Dec were acrimonious between me and Rachel and other participants and they had the effect of turning off a lot of us defenders from participating further to political life in Balder. Fotar was one named directly in the essay. It was almost ten years ago, but I distinctly remember being exhausted with the debate and just being pleased to focus my energy elsewhere than Balder.

Wrong. They succeeded. TITO that is.

Osiris many years later becoming a raider region has absolutely nothing to do with XKI.

Osiris many years later becoming a raider region has absolutely nothing to do with XKI.

Sure it does - XKI invasion as such eventually contributed to the conditions that eventually led to a raider Osiris. On the other hand, it's entirely possible that had whatever invader taken over then, then Osiris wouldn't be raider now.

Of course, this is beside the point, which was that long-term, the goals of either organization did not come to fruition, only in the shorter term did they.

Edit: To be clear, this all is not intended as a serious historical point, just a joking observation.

No it didn't and even with that logic you couldn't blame XKI, you'd have to blame them and every single person that was involved in the region and the influence from outside players and regions. Also I know you joke all the time, but people who don't know don't.

Thanks Paffnia, I couldn’t find the notice of declaration from either side but I included it in the essay since Mark mentioned it.
