Apologies never work, my friend... I thought this was made quite clear by the results of my own region's public apology. I was correct to revoke it.

The stain of your association with us will never leave you. It's only a matter of time until another apology is demanded of you. The world is quite the unforgiving place.

It is not the apology that matters. You can apologize as much as you want to and nothing will happen if you don't do anything to change. Only the actions that come after your apology really matter. If you do nothing to change, you can't expect forgiveness from people.

Silly? I would think not. Forgiveness is quite dead. Time and time again, I have seen people apologize for actions, only to be driven into the ground for acknowledging that they committed them. So the process begins for yourself.

As I said, you would do well do realize this.

If your apology was sincere, you'd commit to it regardless of how it's received by others. If you withdraw your apology when you don't get the reaction you wanted, then your apology was insincere and no one is obligated to take it any more seriously than you did.

"I'm sorry" isn't a magical get-out-of-jail-free card that exempts you from the consequences of your actions. It's a sign that you're willing to atone for your past misbehavior, and stop continuing said misbehavior. Or, it's supposed to be. A lot of people seem to miss that step.

It's encouraging to see an acknowledgement of wrongdoing, but now's the part where you have to start making up for it. If you mean what you say, then you should know this, and act accordingly. I'm sure you'll do fine if you stick to your principles and mature a little- just give it time.

The flip side of that are people who never apologize despite having done wrong.

I mean they're both bad: Apologizing expecting forgiveness vs not apologizing to people who are owed an apology.
