Has anyone here made Distributionist Nation?

Postby Sirenza » Sun Jan 12, 2020 4:40 am

When I say Distributionist, I mean following the belief of Distributism. Basically the belief that both capitalism and socialism are flawed and that the "world's productive assets should be widely owned rather than concentrated", preferring small family businesses over large corporate entities. So pretty much theres no large businesses as everyone basically has there own. It values private ownership of land to high regard.
heres the wikipedia for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributism
it is very catholic in nature.

this being said, has anyone successfully modeled their nation after this? (I hope I explained well) I would like to base my nation off of this but not really sure how I would as distributism beliefs that you cant really force people to become landowners and business owners.

It’s human nature to move away from that, through progress and innovation.
So only a nation that isint economically viable would be like that...

Now, if you mean small business, that a whole different story..
My nation promotes small businesses a lot.

But it doesent make scene to order pipes from 12 different Companies just for one building for Erie street the price.
It’s the argument about centralization and efficiency..

I think what you mean is a place that is like all farmers town and has a very large Basket weaving industry.
But how scale exactly ?

Is everyone their own doctor, is there a town doctor etc...

Generally only exists before industrilsarion , or at small isolated scocities.

If you are wondering about scale it believes in local governments. I guess you could sort of explaining it as buying from your local farmers market and at the same time having a sort of self sufficiency. Why would progress and innovation move away from that? I'm still new to this economic view so I want to know all I can.
If you ask about something like healthcare then, for example, a place like USA could have a universal healthcare, but not federally funded, instead is ran by each state.

I don't think NS allows for the distinction between big business and small business, statistically speaking. Just state-owned, private industry and government.

I don't think NS makes distinctions for economies outside of capitalism and socialism. Regulating or breaking up business always seems to come out as +socialism or -capitalism on here. - You can run a more or less successful capitalist economy with a low wealth gap if you're careful about decisions and get lucky, and this seems to be as close to economic distributism as you can get.

Also, this issue might be of interest https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._265 There are probably a few more, but this was the best one I've seen.

Although Prozitia is Socialist in nature, it does have Distributionist characteristics and does permit family businesses/small scale trades(such as personal trades). However, they're still under regulation so that they stay that way. Prozitia considers these small businesses as one with the workers and considers them state-owned industries.

Most of the regulation on these small businesses are decided by worker's unions. For example, if the small business is a bakery, then a union for cooks will decide on the regulations for the most part.
