♦ Skald roleplay begins!

As tensions with the Sultanate of Ahaskal and its vassal states have been growing for the past decade, under the paranoia that has been reigning in the atmosphere of Solmark a tense situation has grown in the Aramanaica Peninsula.

This morning, a detachment of the Ahaskali Gendarmerie crossed the border into Alagadda and opened fire onto a group of civilians on the periphery of the port which they claimed had illegally crossed the border aswell, so it was legitimate for them to intervene, but things soon escalated as the Silic Umbarian police force in Alagadda intervened in what became a series of urban skirmishes, this ended when a Silic Umbarian military cruiser shelled a coastal village in Ahaskal, forcing the regional governors to calm the hostilities. All in all 24 people died in this incident, of which 20 civilians.

As the leaders and civilians are waking up across the Confederacy and in Ahaskal, it remains to be seen what course of action they will take as rumours and worries of the start of a new Confederate-Ahaskali war spread along the coasts.

After months of development, as of 11 January, Niamark's official Skald roleplay has been launched! Under the supervision of Holocovoy, with the assistance of Torberii, all members of the Confederacy are welcome (encouraged, even) to participate. ♦ Thane elections conclude!
Niamark's second Thane elections, the first since the ratification of the Constitution, began 4 January. Lycos was appointed to officiate the election by the Thing.

Elections were fairly straightforward, with no Landsdel challenging the incumbents, Holocovoy and Oi Barbaroi. The new executive term officially began 10 January, and there has been no indication that any Reeves will be replaced. Hol stated that he intends to ensure that the roleplay goes well and maintain current progress. Barbaros is looking to "get recruitment up to speed."

SPECIAL UPDATE ♦ 9 June 2020

Effective immediately, Lycos, as Founder of Niamark, has abolished the original Constitution of Niamark and replaced it with the New Charter of Niamark. Rather than a sudden change in direction, this document is the culmination of a slow drift towards a more meritocratic structure in the region.

In a regional telegram and Discord announcement, Lycos explained: “Back in Londinium and even more so in Niamark, our region has been built on the principle of meritocracy. When people put in the work, they are rewarded. The flip side of it is that when something stops working, it needs to go.”

The New Charter (NCN) is designed to combat apathy through more consistent accountability. Thanes, the elected heads of government, have been dismissed. Instead, Reeves are directly accountable to the Cyning (Founder), or an Ætheling they may choose to appoint. The Thing, Niamark's legislature, shall remain as a legislative body and as the public's voice in the government.

The new executive council, the Riksradet, is as follows:

• Reeve of Culture: Holocovoy
• Reeve of Integration: Nordsville
• Reeve of Engagement: Barbaros
• Reeve of Diplomacy: vacant

Foreign affairs inquiries should be directed to the Cyning directly in the interim. The change has no effect on current diplomatic relations.

Lycos did not want citizens to be discouraged by the changes, in fact, quite the opposite. “I strongly encourage our other Landsdelar [citizens] to contact one of the Reeves...and get involved in our government. Any government, regardless of structure, doesn't work unless you do. Soon enough, you'll get your own chance to be a Reeve and put these old farts out of a job.”
