November Elections

TWP's November elections have concluded! Over 70% of the members of the Hall of Nations voted, making this one of the largest elections in TWP's recent history. These elections were especially significant, as they fell immediately after Bran Astor's ascension to the Delegacy.

TWP's election cycle consists of two rounds, the first including the Speaker of the Hall, and the Ministers of Internal Affairs, Recruitment & Citizenry, and World Assembly Affairs, and the second including the Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sergeant-at-Arms. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Military Affairs (TWPAF Commander) are appointed by the Delegate, while all elected positions serve 3 months terms at the Delegate's discretion. For more information about TWP's meritocracy, please see the Manners of Governance or ask us here or on the RMB.

The platforms posted by each candidate can be seen on our forums after becoming a TWP citizen. Stay tuned for more election news in next month's issue of The West Pacifican, publishing December 6th!

Election Results

Round 1

Speaker of the Hall Total votes: 36
  • Varanius - 33 (100%) - Elected
  • Abstain - 3
Minister of Internal Affairs Total votes: 35
Minister of Recruitment and Citizenry Total votes: 36
Minister of World Assembly Affairs Total votes: 34

Round 2

Turkey Pardon!

TWP's first annual turkey pardon is nearly over! Four turkeys entered: Big Tom, Adele, Old Pecker, and Butterball, but only one will escape with their life. See their Turker profiles below to make your own choice.

The Results

Over the course of the poll, the RMB was the site of heated discussion of each turkey's merits. The collective NSverse voted overwhelmingly to pardon Old Pecker, for reasons some of us will never understand.. The final result was 62 votes for Old Pecker, 42 for Butterball, 19 for Adele, and 17 for Big Tom, for a grand total of 140 votes. After the poll, a resolution was introduced and discussed in the Hall of Nations, and is at vote until Nov. 27th. The resolution, if passed by the Hall, will signal that body's desire to pardon Old Pecker, as the winner of the gameside poll. The resolution will then be passed to the Delegate, Bran Astor, for the official pardoning this Thursday. Afterward is expected a wondrous feast consisting of those not so fortunate to receive the Delegate's pardon.

Update! Official Pardoning of Old Pecker

OFFICIAL DOCUMENT OF THE DELEGATE

The region recently swiped right to save a life and one turkey was clearly chosen.

The Hall of Nations concurred by easily passing a resolution beseeching me to pardon said turkey.

It is clear to me the good people of our fair region are firmly against the idea of having Old Pecker pass over their lips and through their gums. Too bad stomach, here come the Funyuns.

I, Bran Astor, do hereby pardon Old Pecker, the most innocent turkey in the Best Pacific.

When in the course of avian events, it becomes necessary for one people to cook and eat several large birds in celebration and thankfulness for their freedom from the marsupials’ reign of terror, it is fitting that a show of clemency be made.
Four fowl have been presented to us, and it is our duty to choose one whose life to spare. The choice has not been difficult. We believe that Old Pecker is more fair than foul and and does not deserve to meet his end this November.

All of the other Turkeys have condemned themselves through their testimony. Butterball avowed his Marsupialism. Adele botched a coup which went against her own statements as delegate (which must have been awfully embarrassing for her, sorry Adele. Being killed for Thanksgiving must seem like nothing after having been martyred in nsgp and mocked in meme dispatches). Big Tom likes to double-post on the RMB, and honestly, if we could kill a fourth turkey here, we’d execute him a second time.

Only Old Pecker has maintained his innocence. If we were to let him die anyway, it would be to set the precedent that turkeys are guilty until proven innocent. Sure, he gives us an iffy vibe, and his name’s kind of weird, and his neighbors keep disappearing, and he used to be friends with 94 block, and he’s been charged with murder and/or manslaughter on 181 separate occasions. But he has always been acquitted, and you can’t assume that everyone who finds the body of a murder victim is guilty, even if he found them in his basement while he was still holding a knife. He had probably just come downstairs from carving his own Thanksgiving turkey.

Honestly, Old Pecker seems like a really nice guy, and we’d like to hang out with him sometime. He invited us to go for a long walk in the woods with him, so maybe we could go see the fall foliage or something. I’m sure you’d like him to if you got to know him. He’s such a unique individual. We don’t know anyone else who tye-dyes all their clothes but only with red dye.

For all these reasons, then, we, the people of The West Pacific assembled in the Hall of Nations, humbly beseech our lord Delegate and Dragon Emperor to bestow his mercy upon us, his humble servants, and spare the life of Old Pecker. He won’t regret it. He didn’t look that tasty anyway.

I am extremely proud of all candidates who ran in our elections, those who won, and especially all citizens who voted. It is because of the citizenry that we are the Best Pacific.

I am less proud of Old Pecker being the popular choice to be pardoned.

I didn't participate, but this is actually pretty easy to figure out. "Butterball" is a self-basting bundle of crispy skin and delicious meat; "Adele" makes overrated music; "Big Tom" sounds like a Big Jerk of a bully; and no one in their right mind has any intention of coming close enough to "Old Pecker" to set the axe on that cunning, vicious bastard. Sounds like the people made the right call!

I’m glad to see my friend, Old Pecker, live to see another November. Thanks for the honorable mention!

Hello, government officials and residents of the Wintocracy of The West Pacific. I am Red/Gil Lodihr, President of the Republic of Alvaria.

I have come to you, in the writing of this letter. To ask of your intentions regarding other User Created Regions (UCRs), that do not support or follow your motions in the World Assembly. Listed are other regions and their leaders who also ask this question. Specifically a telegram sent by one 'Arkadia Universalis' to all the residents of The West Pacific stating The West Pacifics desire to 'bring its might to bear on the backwaters that support the General Assembly's continued offenses against national sovereignty'. And messages from one OT/Overthinkers, a minister of WA/R and the Guardian of the West, stating 'your region has no need to be worried if you vote for all repeals and against all other GA proposals'. Both images are linked at the bottom of this letter.

We hope to hear back from you soon.

Red/Gil Lodihr, Founder of Alvaria.
Wintermoot, Founder of Wintreath.
New Velonia, Founder of The Democratic Commonwealth.
Capital AL, Founder of The Democratic Republic.
Cus/Common Union of the States V2, President of the Red Wolf Alliance..
Ellenburg, Founder of URA

Dear Red,

I'm writing in response to your self-identification as leader of a backwater region. A backwater is often defined as an isolated or backward place or condition in which no development or progress is taking place.

As you may know, when it comes to the development of a successful community, the buck stops with the founder or executive delegate. If your region is indeed the backwater you claim it is a course correction may be required.

The West Pacific proudly offers such course corrections on request. We also provide citizenship opportunities for nations seeking the full NationStates experience, but find themselves bogged down in stagnant regions.

If you need any more information, please contact our Ministry of WA Affairs & Recruitment anytime. They are always happy to help.

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

Bran Astor

That didn't really answer the question, it kind of just deflected to low key insulting his region. I'm kind of interested in his original question.

It's particularly amusing to see a GCR, of all things, trying to drum up sympathy for not having enough of a say in WA matters. I have to wonder, do you also plan on browbeating UCR embassy regions with what little military presence you have if they have the temerity to not roll over and do what you say? Or are y'all just trying to forcibly create a poor man's WALL?

After the general positivity of Halo's tenure as delegate, moves like this should be sad to see, if only they weren't so pathetically unenforcable.

I would advise, instead of ending up insulting a lot of UCR regions, and in this case - believe me guys - you have already pissed off many UCR's, how about you actually go ahead and take some corrective steps to resolve this, let's pretend that it is, an incident ?

So basically, any region which wants to grow and be let alone in NS is "backwards" and "needs correction"?

You guys are just crazy, shame there is such a desire to ruin the fun of others in a game because of the irrelevant World Assembly...
