MISS MAJOR RAID – MAJOR 13/06/2020
Image

As a part of TWPride we at the TWPAF would like to honor the one and only Miss Major!

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, known to most as Miss Major was born in Chicago on October 25, 1940 and is an amazing individual who deserves far more recognition then she gets who has lived a hard life yet is still very loving and caring and really with a name like Miss Major how could we not do something?

Miss Major is a trans woman activist and community leader for transgender rights. Miss Major has participated in activism for a wide range of causes throughout her lifetime, including the Stonewall riots.

Miss Major was in the Stonewall Inn meeting with a girlfriend when the bar was raided, an action which initiated the Stonewall riots which were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the LGBT community which Miss Major was one of the leaders of in New York City. Patrons of the Stonewall, other lesbian and gay bars, and neighborhood street people fought back when the police became violent. The riots are widely considered to constitute one of the most important events leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States.

Miss Major ended up moving to California in the late 1970’s where in San Diego she organized a variety of community efforts and grass roots movements. She initially started working at a local food bank and later would provide direct services for trans women who were incarcerated, suffering from drug addictions or homeless. While Miss Major was in living in San Diego the AIDS epidemic also struck the US and on top of the services, she began offering additional healthcare and multiple funerals each week. In the mid 1990s Miss Major would move to the San Francisco bay area and while there she served on multiple HIV/AIDS organizations.

Miss Major began working at the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project in 2003. She served as the Executive Director of the project, where she led efforts to support transgender women who are in prison both within her organization and are not, she has fought against criminalization and police brutality. She is credited for leading direct service efforts and personal care to trans women of color that are in the prison system with the organization in addition to her leadership in previous organizations.

We at the TWPAF Salute you Miss Major!

You spammed people's regions with tags and dressed it up as social activism. A tribute memorandum would have sufficed.

Can't believe that ultra-moralism for a game trumps a heartfelt and creative tribute honouring an IRL hero that we should all look up to, especially on pride month.

Cry me a river.

You would be with the people saying "no don't riot the straights will eventually accept us if we just play nice".

If an enchantress made it so one raid could bring about world peace, Unibot would ask raiders to just sign a petition instead.

Great raid and great tribute, though

I think comparing the Stonewall Riots to some random spam on NS is silly. And invaders invade every week - it's not an act of civil disobedience, it's routine spamming dressed up temporarily as activism.

If it's random silly spam, then why are you getting worked up over it? Anyways, nice job TWP, love the message!

People who raid are so bad, aren't they? How dare they alter some bits and code in an online game to promote a good message and highlight an exceptional individual on Pride Month? After all, ultra-moralist feelings for a digital platform are obviously more important than paying tribute with the tools available to people who are actually made out of flesh and bone in the real world. The nerve! Shame on you, TWP, for honouring a person that has made a RL impact for the better in our society in a creative way, shame!

You might understand if you'd lived in one of these supposedly-inactive regions, it is not just a mild nuisance, it's a few hours of your day you had not planned on NS spent fixing the absolute mess they have left behind. It's an absolute nightmare.

From my days as a mod, it doesn't matter what form it takes, spam is spam.

One person's spam is another person's art. It is all perspective and I'm not sure it makes sense to equate an objective truth to raiding like most things in NS. Great work again, TWP!
