Again, I love the FA spotlight. I'm not a fan of how it described Francos Spain, because I think he's commonly seen as an opportunist-- whether he did good is irrelevant. I believe theDoc was the only democratically elected delegate in TP history after a series of dictators were overthrown and then they subsequently went inactive, allowing Francos Spain to tart to the delegacy. At the time there was no influence (started in march 2006) and no ban cap, so he just had to get rid of challengers. I don't think that he led a band of brave revolutionaries trying to overthrow a tyranny.

My memory is shoddy and I wouldn't trust any account of something that happened 17 years ago for gospel, but I believe everything I just said is a universal, accepted account of Francos Spain.

BAYARD RUSTIN RAID – MAJOR 11/07/2020
Image

Continuing with our TWPride raids, tonight we at TWPAF would like to honor a man that has been called the “lost prophet” of the Civil Rights Movement, Bayard Rustin!

Bayard Rustin was an American leader in social movements for civil rights, socialism, nonviolence, gay rights and one of the most influential and effective organizers of the civil rights movement. Rustin organized and led several protests through out the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Due to criticism over his sexuality, he usually acted as an influential adviser behind the scenes to civil rights leaders.

Born on March 17th, 1912, Rustin was one of 12 children raised by his grandparents. Rustin’s life-long commitment to nonviolence began with his Quaker upbringing and the influence of his grandmother, whose participation in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People resulted in leaders of the black community, such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Mary McLeod Bethune, visiting the Rustin home during Rustin’s childhood.

Rustin became a close advisor to Martin Luther King, providing King with a deep understanding of nonviolent ideas and tactics at a time when King only had an academic familiarity with Gandhi. King asked Rustin to serve as his advisor, aware that Rustin’s background would be controversial to other civil rights leaders, King recognized the advantages of Rustin’s knowledge, contacts and organizational abilities, As King’s assistant, Rustin assumed a variety of roles, including proof reader, ghostwriter, philosophy teacher, and nonviolence strategist. While Rustin’s homosexuality led some to question King’s relationship with him, King recognized the importance of Rustin’s skills and dedication to the movement.

In 1963 A. Philip Randolph began organizing the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Despite the concerns of many other civil rights leaders, Rustin was appointed deputy director of the march. In less than two months Rustin guided the organization of the event that would bring over 200,000 participants to Washington D.C. where he was affectionately referred to as “Mr. March-on-Washington” by Randolph.

From 1965 until 1979, Rustin served as president, and later as co-chair, of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, an organization of black trade unionists dedicated to racial equality and economic justice. In the 1980s, he became a public advocate on behalf of gay causes, speaking at events as activist and supporter of human rights while still devoted to securing workers' rights, Rustin joined other union leaders in aligning with ideological neoconservatism, for which President Ronald Reagan posthumously praised him after his death in 1987 and on November 20, 2013, President Barack Obama posthumously awarded Rustin the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

We at the TWPAF Salute you Bayard Rustin!

It was a well concocted raid so congratulations on that (albeit your second attempt after the failed December raid) but I guess your lead didn't fancy trying to take on the incoming defender onslaught ;)

You did manage to pull a Hall of Fame defender back into action for this one though

Better Apart

The West Pacific hereby activates Article V of the Best Pacifics treaty, and is giving notice of our intention to end the alliance with the East Pacific. The bond that existed in this treaty has been frayed beyond repair, as shown by the recent treason charges upon our former Delegate Halo, and our former Delegate and Guardian Badger from actions resulting during the Coup of the East Pacific. Our current Minister and Guardian, Aelita, has been blocked from citizenship for security reasons. We have also been informed that our current delegate is formally banned from the region as well.

As Article IV, section 3 of the treaty states that Clandestine actions from the other party are not allowed, we believe this to be an accusation made against us. We have been told that due to security concerns, it is necessary to wait to give us the information, and approval needs to be given by the relevant governing bodies. Due to the nature of the officials being accused or presently denied citizenship, we do not believe that the treaty is currently salvageable.

To quote AMOM, “We have tried to maintain a cordial relationship despite some things that would have elicited very hostile reactions from other hypothetical allies.”

AMOM does call us out in negotiations about the usage of a bluff that should not be used against allies. From our end, it was determined necessary as the only way to ferret out the truth regarding potential changes to the treaty. He would be correct in that this is not how allies behave, however, we believe the same treatment has been aimed towards us. The West Pacific has done nothing to destabilize The East Pacific, and we do not believe the above attitude as stated by AMOM is the foundation for a healthy alliance.

While we're disheartened to see the breakdown of relations and the cancellation of a 9 year embassy, the marshmallows totally make up for it. On the bright side, we’ll always have these final negotiations, and can look forward to historians debating the breakup 18 years from today.
