In My Honest Opinion - Anonymous Confessions and Opinions

Presenting "In My Honest Opinion" - or IMHO for short.

"But what is In My Honest Opinion?" I hear you asking. The response is simple - IMHO is a new service that can be used for confessions (or opinions that you're too scared to share publicly) for anything related to NationStates Gameplay.

"How do I go about giving a confession?" Well that answer is another simple one! Telegram this account here. And then, at the end of every week, I will post a dispatch containing all the confessions of the week, and post the dispatch in this thread.

And now, for the best part! All of these confessions will remain anonymous! We simply ask that you keep it vaguely related to NationStates.

Now, we have no idea if this will work or not, but we will certainly continue it for as long as we can, whether it is successful or not.

And that's it! We hope you will consider participating in this service! Thank you for your considerations!

The first dispatch will go up on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

This will not end well. Just calling it now so I can call dibs on "I told you so" comments.

This is the actual worst idea I've seen an NS player espouse.

We already have this, it's called Cormac.

Neither original, or with the superior name of this puppet.

It was an interesting idea, in my opinion. I'll try it out for a few weeks, and if nothing comes of it, I may stop. Doesn't hurt to try.

Nation States Confessional wrote:Neither original, or with the superior name of this puppet.

Your name is superior, but you did just refound 10 minutes ago, after a 3 year long absence of CTE'ing, so forgive me for not realizing you existed.

Cormactopia Prime wrote:This will not end well. Just calling it now so I can call dibs on "I told you so" comments.

That's fair. Given the first couple telegrams I received, you may very well be right. I'll still try it for a few weeks.

Cekoviu wrote:This is the actual worst idea I've seen an NS player espouse.

Seems a bit harsh.

I have sent you my juicy confession, OP. Please don't reveal which opinion is mine!

Oh dear... Maybe this project did go awry.

Do remember to GHR the bad & reportable stuff, may be nice as a good honeytrap for rulebreakers ;)

So can you give any guarantee that you aren't gonna reveal player identities, especially if its something that could affect your region, say, an admission of infiltration?

I guess there's no real way to guarantee I will not reveal player identities - but I will report rulebreakers (Like, I had a rather nasty telegram earlier that was rather concerning, so I plan to report that to the mods using a GHR), but if you wish to wait until the first issue or first few are out, I'd understand.

TL;DR: The only people I may reveal your identity to is the mods, for moderation purposes.

Hey. This is just a guess but, perhaps this anon's thread could turn out to be a positive thing for the community, IF we all use it for a good purpose like

"IMHO this player [name] on NS is really nice! He's always welcoming newbies and teaching them how to answer issues! Or teaching roleplay or gameplay."

"IMHO I think someone should award a metal to [NAME] for their excellent, underrated dispatch [link]"

So why not ^_^

I hope this thread becomes something sweet like that.

Hey OP, how about you accept ONLY positive submissions?
(And ignore the toxic ones that flame people.)

You obviously have no idea what anonymity makes people be able to say. (4chan says hello.)

I'd say positive stuff like Secret Santa.

Plus it's up to the OP to filter out the bad replies.

Anyway, if the OP isn't going to do this, it's a wonderful idea for anyone else.

EDIT: I lowkey retract my idea. This idea would only work properly if we knew who the OP was. But it's risky when the thread poster themselves is anonymous

IMHO, this anonymous puppet epidemic has gotten out of control. We're already seen something similar happen almost half a year ago so all you're doing is beating a dead horse.

This is Morover. I've been pretty open about it, and it didn't even occur to me that I hadn't posted on this thread who I am. I've been intending to get into GP for a while (I lurk, but don't really do anything), and figured this was an interesting idea.

And yeah, I wasn't planning to publish anything that directly targets another person - I don't want to spread negativity. Obviously I'd prefer positive things, but even just like joke submissions I'd allow, so long as they are somewhat appropriate. Of course, I'd use my own discretion on a case-by-case basis.

Hi Morover ^-^ we've telegrammed before.
I hope it stays positive
Be cautious of jokes too, which can be taken seriously if not between longtime friends. At least that's my personal policy.)
Anyway, good luck!

Personally, I think that as long as this concept is well managed it could turn out to be a positive force in the Gameplay community (although I will admit that I've already submitted a joke confession). If poorly managed this will undoubtedly become a toxic dumpster-fire, however. I hope that commentary doesn't come off as disapproving; there is a lot of room in-between.

I'll be looking forward to the first week's submissions. :)

This is a cool idea, Morover, and I like your creativity. :) I like to do things that I know nothing about in GP sometimes because I have to be creative to figure out how to make it work for me, and taking the unconventional route has always been a strength for me. Good on you for stepping out on your own! This is gonna be a hard project to manage, though. Have you ever heard of the artist who challenged people to do whatever they wanted to her for 6 hours? She gave them 72 items on a table to do as they liked and it started out fairly harmless, but as time went on people started to try to test how much they could get away with. They started really hurting her and went so far as to point a gun in her face by the end of the experiment. I think this project will probably put you in a similar predicament. It may start off fairly innocent, but people will very quickly start testing their limits in ugly ways. I don't think you will want either the pointed vileness of some of these people or the damage that they might try to do through you on your hands.

Really good creativity and the way you think seems really pure and respectful to me. But keeping my Karma good compels me to warn you without being mean or belittling that maybe this is something you would grow to regret.

Time to use an anonymous puppet to sweet talk about myself

Anonymous confessionals are only fun if there’s some level of drama or intrigue involved. If everyone just circlejerks positive shoutouts, which they won’t, there’s nothing of too much interest to stick around for.

IMHO (see what I did there) The whole anonymous confessions page just reminds of High School, when shit like YikYak as well as “anonymous” HS Twitter accounts was popping off. Pro-Tip: Those did not end up wholesome, and most of the fun it did bring was at the expense of others.
