It did actually originate here as an issue "Faith". The name is based on one of the admins, [violet].
It's a placeholder so as not to offend any adherents of real-world religions.

The main administrator on here is named [violet] and seems to have sprung from meta-jokes about that

I know that violinists
-hate protective headwear
-do human sacrifice
-do terrorism
but that's about it

Did violet have a nation at one point? It would be reasonable to consider that nation to be the epicenter of the faith.

That factbook looks like heresy, to me, son. I would avoid propagating such un-truths lest you attract some Inquisition...

Not really. As others have said, it's one part running gag, one part tribute, and one part "[insert religion here]" placeholder. It's not really meant to be an internally consistent, canon religion so much as a way to poke fun at real-world religions without the baggage and shitstorms that come with using the names of the religions being made fun of. Basically:
-Sacred top hats = Niqab/Kippah/Yarmulke
-Terrorism issues = Radical Islam terrorism issues
- Human Sacrifice = "Satanism"/"Paganism"/native faiths which still practice ritual human sacrifice.
Basically, you're not really meant to take it as a religion in and of itself so much as an allegory for whatever real-world religion is commonly associated with the problem being presented in the issue.

Then why does Christianity still get a name drop in some issues?
If we can talk about Christians trying to censor Harry Potter,
surely we can talk about Islamic Terror

Harry Potter Censorship Row does not mention Christianity. It just calls the complainer a "religious leader"
Issues don't make assumptions about the nation, barring a few instances of titles and legislature names.
