While the superiority complex imbued within Francoism is exclusionary and runs contrary to the values of Europeia and other User-Created Regions, my comments in NationStates Today went too far. I wish to apologize for conflating Francoism with Nazism. Europeia recognizes the steps NPO is taking in their pledge to end Francoism. Europeia will continue to promote the values of inclusion and respect among all willing to communicate civilly.

Francos Spain and Unlimited, both students of European politics, know exactly what language they were lifting when the former named a state, the New Pacific Order, and Unlimited et. al. created an ideology around reclamation, annexation, unification, and national pride and culture, in addition to collective servitude and the abolition of the individual, against a sinister "deceptive," elite/dominant minority.

The NPO is a not very subtle pastiche of European nationalist dictatorships.

Sure it's a game, nobody has died over a game, but it is a pastiche and the source is clear and unsavory. I don't see anything wrong about pointing out the connection. Francoist rhetoric is indistinguishable from RL fascist propaganda, it just inserts "userite" where RL dictators used "jew" - and the logic of them as a dominant minority, infiltrating political society and weakening and imperalising nations from within remains intact. You may be comfortable with that, knowing it is a game, but I don't think it is fair to direct outrage, not to the people prancing around with Mein Kampf ripoffs, but to the people pointing out the plagiarism.

I find it very amusing for Unibot to pretend to be outraged by supposed fascism on behalf of the NPO, when I'm pretty sure he rewarded Automagfreek with Condemnation. Were we to take the things AMF has said in RPs at the value Unibot wants us to take the NPO, then Unibot supports fascism as evidenced by rewarding AMF with an in-character condemnation.

Such a comparison would be incredibly stupid, but then, so is comparing the NPO to real life fascists and nazis.

I am not "comparing" Francoism and Nazism, I'm saying Francoism is a flat out pastiche of European Fascist propaganda. And you can brush it off as a game if you like, but calling it a "dumb" or "disgusting" statement is stubborn cognitive dissonance from people who should know better: the fact that NPO is a ripoff of the kinds of RL propaganda that ravaged and occupied Western and Eastern Europe in generations past is incontrovertible. The "logic" of Francoism lifts directly from the "logic" of ethno-nationalism, an aggrieved cultural diaspora 'oppressed' by a deceptive, dominant minority.

I am not saying that proponents of Francoism are fascists or unemphatic or racists, I am saying that their rhetoric was a deliberate carbon copy of RL fascist propaganda by political science undergraduates (probably playfully) in '03-04 - whether that is ethically significant in a game isn't really something I've given much thought to, but I know disputing the connection in and of itself is disputing reality.

I'm not outraged, nor am I pretending to 'feel' anything.

I was responding to criticism (in fact, a piling-on) of someone's statement that NPO reminded them of Nazi propaganda. The point of my initial defense is folks have a fair reason to see similarities: Francoist propaganda is liberally lifted from RL Fascist sources. I've also found it uncomfortable watching people in this thread get more angry about that simple truth being pointed out than anything else.
