Region creating?

Postby Basatrika » Thu Nov 29, 2018 10:15 am

(This is a founder puppet of Altion, btw.)
Hello. Recently, I've been thinking of starting a new RP region. A bit like The Western Isles and others. But since I'm new to this whole scene, I'd like a bit of advice from people more experienced than me.
1. How long will it take for my region to grow? I know it won't instantly boom, but I don't wan't to be forgotten. ;-;
2. General RP stuff. Worldbuilding, maps and other stuff. Sorry if this seems a bit vague.
3. How much time will I have to dedicate? I'm most active with my main account in TSP and I don't want to just abandon it.

Also, I'm not sure where to put this, so if I have put it in the wrong place, please tell me.

Lastly, would there be any willing members ready to fill in positions of government?

Number one: wrong board. It has been moved to the appropriate one.

Number two: there is absolutely no reason to bump your thread, period. You are permitted one bump in any 24-hour period or when the thread falls off the first page, whichever takes longer. Do not bump spam.

I'd recommend reading this: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=353470

In summary:
1. It very much depends
2. Not strictly necessary but can help attract people
3. Usually, a lot

For time involved, I personally have spent the last month or so working on my region, typing up dispatches, creating the discord and forums, recruiting, fine tuning, etc.
I have ~20 nations and almost an empty government, although my real recruitment just started..
Point is, it takes time and effort, and is easier if you have friends help you along.

As a relative newb to NS, as well as someone who started a region not that long ago, I can say:

1. Depends on how good you are with recruitment. It sometimes takes a month to hit 100 nations, sometimes longer, sometimes a region can stale below that. Recruitment is very much throwing mud on the wall and seeing if it sticks, if your telegrams don't seem to be working, you need to switch them up.
2. Well, if you are going to create an RP region, the map is a must. Makes it way more appealing. Worldbuilding is welcome, but I would say that beyond setting up a theme, you don't need to do that much. You can flesh it out later imo.
3. A lot. Region-building is hard and time consuming. It can also get rather discouraging. But you should be able to stay active on your other nation. Depends on how much free time for NS you have.

Thanks for all the advice. I've decided to give up on region-building as it looks like too much time and effort, but all the advice was appreciated!
