Who Are We?

The Cavaliers of Elparia are the military arm of the aforementioned region and have become one of the more active and effective R/D organizations in the past year, participating in numerous tag raids, refound raids, defenses, and liberations, sometimes at the behest of others, sometimes to accomplish coherent political objectives, and sometimes for the lulz. We have a well-earned reputation for flamboyance and chaotic shenanigans, and this has been a point of pride for us, to a man (or woman) an incorrigible region of pariahs. Our success can be attributed to our doctrine of cavalierism, our strong, resolute, and whimsical leadership, and the dedication and discipline of our enlisted personnel. It is our hope that we'll continue to bring a splash of color and poetry to the WFE's of NS for many moons to come.

In a few words, this is who we are. We're the Black Riders with seventy three percent less goth chic. We're the mad painting pariahs of NS. We're the devil-may-care coterie who would make of R/D an art.

History

Work-In-Progress.

Ranks, Structure, and Leadership

The Cavaliers employ a detailed and vivid ranking system based on the historic use of cavalry in many armies prior to World War I. Promotion through the ranks are tiered and tied to one's ability to perform R/D activities in a satisfactory manner, with predetermined requirements for each rank. Ranks do not necessarily determine one's leadership or authority, but are more of a rough marker of experience and commitment. The ranks and requirements are as follow:

    Rank: Squire
Description: A new recruit who has just begun training.
    Requirements: Enlist with the Cavaliers.

    Rank: Trooper (Private)
Description: A enlistee who has completed training and regularly participates in missions.
Requirements: Learn the basics of R/D and complete a few successful missions.

    Rank: Sergeant
Description: A seasoned regular who has participated in many missions.
Requirements: Participate in fifteen raids, defenses, or liberations.

    Rank: Knight
Description: A veteran who forms the disciplined corps of the region's military
Requirements: Participate in thirty missions including missions that target several regions in a single update

    Rank: Knight Regard (Captain)
Description: A veteran who has experience leading raids, defenses, and liberations
Requirements: Participate in fifty missions of different types, including some with Lily, and lead at least ten missions

Rank: Templar (Raider) or Hospitaler (Defender)
Description: A highly seasoned veteran specializing in either raids or defenses
Requirements: Participate in seventy missions of different types, including some with Lily, and lead fifteen missions

Rank: Blackguard (Raider) or Paladin (Defender)
Description: An elite specializing in either raids or defenses/liberations
Requirements: Participate in one hundred missions of different types, including some with Lily, and lead twenty missions; seventy missions must be of one type or another
Beyond incorporating our cavalry theme into our ranking system, the Cavaliers also employ it in the naming schemes of our puppets and task groups. Puppets should be named with a number, a type of cavalry, and the word "unit." If this becomes cumbersome, words like "corps", "brigade", or "regiment" are permissible. Examples of approved puppet naming schemes are as follow:

    1st Cavalry Unit
    8th Dragoon Unit
    11th Lancer Unit
    28th Sipahi Unit

Task groups, in keeping with our principal theme, are called orders and are given names reminiscent of the knightly orders of old. At the moment, we have two orders led by the Marshal of Elparia (Minister of Defense) and the Commander-in-Chief (Prime Minister) personally. As we grow into a larger organization, this will undoubtedly change. Orders not led by the Marshal or the Commander-in-Chief will be led by Captains appointed by the Marshal. Our orders are as follow:

    Name: Order of the Lion
    Commander: Marshal Volitopia
    Strength: 2 to 6 Cavaliers
    Domain: Raiding

    Name: Order of the Pine
    Commander: Commander-in-Chief Greater Vanya
    Strength: 8 Cavaliers
    Domain: Defending Elparia

With regard to leadership, the Prime Minister of Elparia is acknowledged as the Commander-in-Chief of the Cavaliers with his or her powers delegated to the Minister of Defense who serves as the Marshal of Elparia, generally facilitating all raids, defenses, and liberations beyond Elparia proper at the behest of the Commander-in-Chief.

Btw the Elparia link in the intro goes to a nation, not a region.

Very cool Fahran, keep it up!

But in seriousness, this group looks like it has real potential. Keep it up out there, and it’ll be a pleasure to see y’all out on the field.

Hostile.

Just stay with us. We're doing training runs at the moment so that we can have even more groups. :)

I wanted to keep things organized and public. Given the state of the modern R/D dynamic, it shouldn't hinder us too much.

Another Coup?

Postby Greater Vanya » Wed Nov 14, 2018 2:25 pm

Another Coup?

The thunder of steel-tipped leather boots clanking authoritatively against the cracked concrete of the capital's streets reverberated through the tranquil darkness of the evening. A parade of grim-faced soldiers, wielding rifles, machine-guns, and Damascus-wrought sabers, navigated the streets effortlessly. It was as though they were tracing the back of their own well-worn hands. Ceremonial marches were common enough, and so the procession went largely unnoticed by the chattering citizenry, who stood huddled together and bundled in jackets and coats, shivering to keep the late autumn frost at bay. They made a bee-line for the stately, old courthouse, a building with marble pillars, majestic arches, and a general neoclassical aesthetic, and soon formed a tight circle around the premises. One might have expected them to disperse into smaller, more personable groups, perhaps trading japes and cigarettes, but they stood rigid and steadfast against the flurries of snow that had begun to fall.

Eventually, a sergeant, distinguished by his brazen helmet and the blue plume that fell garishly from it, marched crisply towards the courthouse's oaken doors and wrapped his knuckles against three times. The sound echoed across the courtyard, and, soon, a frantic-looking clerk poked her head out, her silky, blonde hair setting a sharp contrast to her navy blue beanie. "The judges are discussing Minister Aquias's case," she explained politely, "They asked not to be disturbed." The sergeant, who had worn a bored expression up until now, glowered darkly. "And they have no verdict yet?" he demanded crossly, his whiskers flaring as he exhaled a dense, white mist. "They're still in deliberation," the clerk insisted again, her expression growing more worried, "What is your business here, sir?"

"Justice," the sergeant boomed ominously. The shrill whistle of steel sliding against steel turned the blood of all present cold as the officer drew his silvery blade and pointed it past the clerk. "Onward, boys!" he hollered. The Cavaliers surged forward into the building, dragging the whimpering clerk before them. They hammered the butts of their rifles against the door of the chamber where the judges sat weighing the legality of Aquias's case in stern discourse. "What's the meaning of this?" Rophilus boomed, swinging wide the doors. "You're under arrest, Your Honor, for egregious crimes against Elparia," the sergeant informed him solemnly. "B-by what authority?" Rophilus blustered.

"You can't just arrest us," Imperialist Treka shouted, "We have our rights." The sergeant smiled contemptuously. "Rights? What are rights except a bit of theater between the state and the people?" he mused, pressing the point of his saber against Rophilus's chest. "This does pain me, you know?" the sergeant said, "But orders are orders and that's that. We have to serve the region, the greater good, and even good, honest men can stand in service to a bad cause." Chuukango watched the exchange quietly, half suspecting what the presence of two hundred armed soldiers on their doorstep meant. "Where are you to take us?" he inquired calmly. "The Citizen's Assembly," the sergeant answered, grabbing Rophilus and Imperialist Treka by the scuffs of their collars and throwing them down into the mud and snow. The two justices sputtered with the indignity of it all as they climbed shakily to their feet.

Imperialist Treka assumed a boxer's stance and managed to knock three of the soldiers to their feet, eliciting a flurry of punches and profanity before he was subdued by four rather large troopers. They pummeled him into submission and then stood him on his feet. The sergeant strolled over to the disheveled judge and military veteran and slugged him in the stomach. "Enough of that," the sergeant snarled, "Boys, onward the the Assembly!" With that, the soldiers ushered the confused, somewhat untidy-looking judges out across Capitol Square. They arrived in the courtyard of the Citizen's Assembly, a somewhat rustic-building that lacked the pretense and ethereal grace of the courthouse.

Soldiers' were marching several protesting representatives into the hall, the five or so regiments presided over by two figures on horseback. As the judges and representatives squinted and peered through the falling snow, they could just make out the countenances of Greater Vanya and Volitopia. The former wore a smart green officer's uniform beneath a thick crimson riding cloak and sat astride a dappled grey Andalusian, one hand resting on the emerald pommel of her saber. The latter wore a silver helmet with quivering royal blue plumage, crafted in such a way as the resemble a lion's head, and a blue cloak so dark it almost resembled the night sky. His blade, pommeled with a purple ruby, was waving about to direct the troops from atop his black Arabian.

"What's the meaning of this treason?" Minachia cried as he was escorted into the hall, "I'll not have it! Never!" A little ways off, Arells was struggling fruitlessly with is captors. "I'll see you put on trial for this!" he yelled, thrashing as his eyes shot daggers at the two military commanders, "Democracy won't die quietly!" Greater Vanya smiled at him sadly. "We have already strangled democracy in its swaddling clothes," she intoned, her face saturnine and pale from the cold, her expression plaintiff and serenely ethereal . Soon, every member of the Elparian government and active community had been made to kneel in the dim quiet of the Citizen's Assembly, where no torches burned and no lights flickered on.

"The government is hereby dissolved and the Constitution rendered null and void," Greater Vanya announced, "For the good of Elparia." A general uproar greeted this declaration. "On what authority?" Rophilus demanded above the din. After a protracted silence, a regal figure, wrapped in a long fur cape and wielding a scepter, meandered forth from the crowd and perched himself in the speaker's chair. "I exercise my royal prerogative to dismiss all of you now from the burden of your responsibilities," Essotori said solemnly. With that, everyone except for the conspirators was dragged from the hall. The government of Elparia had experienced its fourth major coup, this one led by the seemingly incorruptible Greater Vanya, who had been called the Goddess of Victory and Cheesecake once so long ago.

It was truly the end of an era.
