TITO Update – May 2021

TITO Command

Has your region been invaded, or do you want to get in touch with TITO? If so, contact one of the following nations:
~Chief Executive: Hakketomat
~Field Commander: Kanta Hame
~Tactical Officers: Shy Guyia, Smugglers and Mercs (TITO EF), Controlitia, Wischland, Sulenia, Flying Eagles
~Executive Officers: HN67, Eastern New England

The Update Update

TITO members were on the ball with spotting raiders throughout May, which led to 15 defenses, 4 liberations, 3 detags, and 3 chase runs. Tactical Officer Sulenia in particular demonstrated his spotting skills, and was awarded six Coastwatching Eagles, awarded for being the first to spot a raid, over the course of the month. In between all of the defenses, TITO also joined numerous other militaries to participate in a fash bash of Genua, concluded their support of The South Pacific, and assisted in the delegacy transition of The Rejected Realms. The month of May also saw plenty of coordination with Libcord and Allied Militaries, which helped make it a particularly successful month for defending!

Defender Olympics

TITO has a blast taking part in the Defender Olympics throughout May. Huge thanks to the organizers for such a wonderful event! Below is a summary of TITO participation by Tactical Officer Flying Eagles.
Earlier this month, TITO troops came together with 9 other defender militaries to participate in the Defender Olympics. During the events, TITO troops participated in numerous events, including spotting, liberations, trigger-calling, chasing, and a pile off and theme contest. TITO finished with a hugely impressive 9 medals. Congrats to Moonflower and Sulenia for winning gold, Sulenia (twice) and Control for winning silver, and Control and Thedairos for winning bronze. Congrats also to all of TITO for winning a silver medal in the pile off and a bronze medal in the theme competition.

Monthly Memes

TITO Members were competitive this month, with fights, political intrigue, and some really good jokes.

Question of the Month

TITO members put in many late nights defending through update, and often need some caffeine to get them energized and awake! This May, TITO was asked how they liked their coffee to get a bit of insight of the magic liquid that really makes TITO tick. Two members take their coffee black, four take it with cream and/or sugar, and in a shocking plot twist, most TITO members prefer tea, with nine members extolling the virtues of leaf juice.

~Sorya takes his coffee black, and when asked why, he kept it short and (metaphorically) sweet, saying “I like it bitter, like me (sometimes)”.
~Porflox puts some cream and sugar in his coffee, reasoning “I don't particularly enjoy bitter tastes too much, same reason why I don't eat dark chocolate”
~Thedairos is a tea aficionado, reporting “I prefer tea because I really don't like coffee (which tastes like bitter water to be honest) and it's a nice and warm beverage, especially for winter and sick days. My favourite kind is berry flavoured tea”
~Technical Liaison Kortexia also gets his caffeine fix from tea, stating “I prefer tea because I can get the nice caffeine buzz in the morning without any of the jitters that can come with coffee. Plus it tastes wayyyy better!!! My preferred tea is a nice Matcha Latte, but in 2nd place I would put a properly made Chai”.
~Astrobolt, superhero that he is, doesn’t even require caffeine to defend, and says, “I actually don't drink either tea or coffee, and usually have water, or in the morning, soy milk”.

Until next month, this is your TITO Update Staff signing off - Wischland

May Senatorial Elections

The May elections saw the Blue Canaria North and New Republica South seats go up for grabs. Incumbent BCN senator Porflox ran uncontested and was re-elected to the post. The NRS seat was a completely different story. Three major competitors emerged, with Valentian Elysium, Flying Eagles, and Silvedania all announcing their candidacy. After a hotly contested initial round of voting, Valentian Elysium was able to achieve only 50 percent of the vote, triggering a voting run-off between Flying Eagles and Valentian Elysium. This too ended in a tie, which left the final decision to the Council of 9, which voted for Valentian Elysium. Congratulations to all the candidates who ran great campaigns this month, and Valentian Elysium and Porflox who won!

Meet A Nation Interview

This month, I spoke with Tsuki No Hana/Aeslann. They're an active member of TITO and our monthly featured nation, and we spoke about their time so far in XKI.

Porflox: Is there a particular reason you decided to join XKI?

Tsuki:
I really liked the recruitment telegram. It listed so many possibilities, it was impossible not to move to XKI! The promise of TITO enforced safety was also very appealing to me.
Although I was new to the game, I was determined to experience as much as possible.
XKI seemed like a golden opportunity for that. And it is.

Porflox: Cool! Now, is there something non-TITO related that you really enjoyed in XKI?

Tsuki:
In my early days of NS, I didn't really get involved in much activity, and I still don't, really. But I think the most enjoyable thing about my non-TITO time in XKI is the RMB. The people there were very welcoming, and made me feel right at home. They were amazing at answering questions, and giving me pointers. This alone made me love XKI.

Porflox: Now after you joined TITO, is there an experience that you really enjoyed?

Tsuki:
I think my favorite part of my TITO time thus far is the people. The banter we share during updates is actually quite nice for me (especially calling Hame a caveman xD). The TITO group is also quite welcoming and patient, which really helped during my first few weeks as a defender. All in all, an amazing experience.

Porflox: Is there a particular person who really helped make your NS journey enjoyable?

Tsuki:
There's so many! There's so many people who have helped make NS an wonferful experience for me. Some from XKI, and some from abroad. If I had to pick a single person, I would choose my boyfriend, whom I met here on NS. If I had to pick someone in XKI... there's way too many. So many wonderful people. Flying Eagles, Control, Hame, Wisch, Val... all of XKI has really been a blessing to me, and each and every one of them has made my NS experience truly special.

Porflox: Now looking back, what would you say to your former self before joining TITO?

Tsuki:
I would say to me, "You've found gold. XKI is a wonderful place, full if wonderful people. Stop being afraid, and go participate!"
I was too afraid to get into defending, which is why it took me several months to join.

Porflox: Ok :) Thanks for your time!

Tsuki:
It was my pleasure ^-^

Until next month, your XKI Update Staff is signing off!

If this intelligence relates to actions of the other Signatory's Delegate, then it will be provided to the Chief Executive of Spiritus or the Chief Executive of 10000 Islands respectively.

Section 3. The parties to this treaty may clarify the terms of this treaty through memorandums of understanding, which shall be posted alongside the treaty.

Section 5. Either party may terminate the treaty with five days written notice to the other party after which the terms of the treaty are no longer binding on either party. Termination of this treaty shall not itself be interpreted as an act of aggression.

TITO Update – June 2021

TITO Command

Has your region been invaded, or do you want to get in touch with TITO? If so, contact one of the following nations:
~Commander-in-Chief: Hakketomat
~Field Commander: Kanta Hame
~Tactical Officers: Shy Guyia, Smugglers and Mercs (TITO EF), Controlitia, Wischland, Sulenia, Flying Eagles
~Executive Officers: HN67, Eastern New England

The Update Update

Although updates tended to be slow, TITO found ways to stay busy throughout June. With 8 defenses, 1 liberation, and 8 chase runs, troops were jumping all about NS. Of course, a special shoutout to Thedairos and Free Las Pinas for going above and beyond to find detags, keeping TITO’s skills sharp with a total of 17 detags this month! Whether TITO troops were working on their own, or jumping alongside friends from other militaries, it was an enjoyable and productive month all around!

Monthly Memes

Unfortunately tragedies abounded in TITO chat this month, though they certainly were amusing.

TITO Interview

For this month’s report, we sat down with a TITO Tactical Officer who has made a big splash in update since being promoted. Sulenia has been an incredibly active leader, giving orders almost every update and making chasing a regular TITO activity.

Wisch: Why did you initially join TITO and what made you stay for long enough to become a TO?
Sulenia: The recruitment TG I got really caught my attention when it came to TITO, I found the concept of having a military really interesting. As for what made me stay, it was mainly the community and my own boredom, but mostly the community, I've met a lot of awesome people and that made me stay.
Wisch How are your updates different now as a TO, compared to when you were a non-Command member?
Sulenia: For me at least, it wasn't a huge change, now I just have the responsibility of leading our members, and coordinating with other orgs whenever necessary. I would consider those the main things that changed.
Wisch One thing in particular you’ve taken the lead on is getting TITO members into chasing. How have your efforts progressed on that front?
Sulenia Most often when there's taggers out, i ask if there's any interest in our members in chasing them, I've also recently started to teach our newer members the basics of chasing, and made a small guide on how to chase as well.
Wisch: And how do you think engaging in chasing has affected TITO as a whole?
Sulenia: It has been hugely beneficial to us, with some of our members getting shorter and shorter jump times, developing their skills.
Wisch: What made you personally interested in chasing and how did it prompt you to encourage TITO to begin chasing?
Sulenia: Currently, it's my personal desire to keep raiderdom on the floor that keeps me going. But before that it was mainly my interest in self-improvement, as my participation in the LNF (Late Nite Festival) showed me that chasing could be really good for developing my skills. Besides chasing is kinda fun. Well, I want to make clear that I didn't introduce TITO to chasing, but what convinced me to lead it was how entertaining it is, and as I mentioned before, it’s good for developing skills.
Wisch: What plans do you have for TITO’s future, and for your role personally?
Sulenia: One of the first things I want to do when I have the motivation and time, is making it easier for our mobile updaters (and future mobile TO's) to well, update, however I won't go into detail as to how I'll do that :P As for myself, for now I'll keep spotting and leading, it makes me happy
Wisch: Any final comments you’d like to make?
Sulenia: If any of our Islanders are reading this, join TITO, you won't regret it

Until next month, this is your TITO Update Staff signing off - Wischland

Gong stay in the XKI because there are many nice people that Gong have come across that make Gong happy! :D

Porflox: Gong, you're known for your trademark happiness and positivity. Is there a specific conversation that you had a lot of fun engaging in.

Joint Statement on The Black Hawks Espionage

During the major update on 25 July, The Black Hawks raided Nasunia, a peaceful trade-focused roleplaying region, using underhanded tactics. Through one of their agents, Miravana, The Black Hawks infiltrated the Ten thousand Islands Treaty Organization (TITO) to gain the trust of its members, ultimately taking advantage of cross-endorsements from TITO to seize the delegacy in Nasunia. Miravana performed this infiltration by utilizing a burner Discord account and puppet nation under the alias of Norman Hollow. Once Miravana exposed their deception through the raid of Nasunia, 10000 Islands swiftly banned them from the region.

The Black Hawks carried out the raid of Nasunia with the support of the Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army (EPSA). 10000 Islands and the South Pacific share a respect for The East Pacific's sovereign right to use offensive force according to its laws and customs and consistent with its treaty obligations. In this case however, The East Pacific's actions would constitute a violation of Article III, Section 2(b) of The Treaty of the Waxing Moon between 10000 Islands and The East Pacific. Despite this, it is abundantly clear that The East Pacific was unaware that The Black Hawks used espionage and deception against 10000 Islands in their raid against Nasunia. When The East Pacific was informed about the ploy, the ESPA promptly withdrew from the raid, leaving The Black Hawks-installed delegate in Nasunia with fewer endorsements.

During the minor update on 25 July, the combined efforts of the South Pacific Special Forces (SPSF) and TITO, including our mutual allies the Rejected Realms Army (RRA), our mutual embassy partners in The League, The Order of the Grey Wardens (TGW), and Thaecia, and militaries like The West Pacific Armed Forces (TWPAF) pursuing their sovereign interests to take military action against The Black Hawks, successfully liberated Nasunia. The Coalition of the South Pacific and 10000 Islands commend all of the militaries that participated in the liberation and The East Pacific for withdrawing from the raid.

The Black Hawks carried out these acts with flagrant disregard for the foreign affairs commitments of The East Pacific to 10000 Islands, perhaps even hoping that The Treaty of the Waxing Moon would become nullified by the events of Nasunia. However, The Black Hawks' efforts were insignificant and have backfired. Due to the long history of mutual respect and trust between 10000 Islands and The East Pacific, 10000 Islands was more than willing to approach discussions with The East Pacific in good faith and acknowledge that The East Pacific did not possess foreknowledge of the espionage committed by The Black Hawks. Any violations of Article III, Section 2(b) of The Treaty of the Waxing Moon by The East Pacific were unintentional and will not result in sanctions. As a longstanding ally by treaty to both 10000 Islands and The East Pacific, the South Pacific has concluded the same.

We condemn them for their apparent attempt to interfere in the foreign affairs of sovereign regions by providing incomplete operational information to The East Pacific.

Signed,

Wischland
Delegate of 10000 Islands

Jay Coop (Qvait)
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South Pacific

I'll just copy my thoughts in the thread for TSP about this:

"How dare our sworn enemies, who we seek to destroy, spy on us!"

That's how XKI sounds right now.

I suggest you reread the statement, because what XKI and TSP are really criticizing is TBH's complete disregard for TEP's FA commitments. Perhaps if TBH showed more respect and consideration for the interests and obligations of their military partners, they wouldn't need to resort to underhanded tactics like espionage to conduct a successful (if short-lived) operation. XKI respects the sovereign right of any region to choose their associates, but do hope this incident will serve as a warning to be cautious when dealing with TBH and raiders.

Again, you literally just complained that TBH spied on you and that's wrong because spying is bad, even if TBH is an enemy of XKI, which they are.

So, in this thread, XKI complains about the people they want to destroy spying on them and tries to guilt TEP about it, for some reason.

That's the assertion, yes, in between XKI whinging about the mean bad raiders who dared to infiltrate a defender group, and then trying to tell everyone how bad and terrible it is that they did it, even though defenders infiltrate raider groups on a daily basis since the dawn of R/D.

But it's not a surprise that XKI thinks TEP is ditzy and incapable of actually acting on their own. No, they have to be "tricked", as XKI claims, because XKI has such little respect for the intelligence of their supposed allies in TEP. If XKI actually had respect for TEP, they would have approached them directly and privately with their concerns rather than blast out this little propaganda piece aimed at shaming TEP.

XKI had approached TEP directly and privately, discussed our concerns with them, come to a mutually agreed-upon conclusion, and made them aware that we intended to release a joint statement with TSP, thank you very much. In fact, that's the reason this statement wasn't published until several days after the events it concerns, because we wanted to work out things with TEP first. Don't make assumptions about XKI's opinions on and relations with our friends and allies; it only makes it abundantly clear that you have no idea what a strong, mutually constructive relationship looks like.

Now you've said your bit and I've said mine. Unless you have something to add besides grossly misrepresenting XKI, I think we can conclude this conversation.

As amusing as XKI's attempts to dismiss legitimate criticisms may be, had XKI contacted TEP and reached a mutual agreement, they would have released a joint statement with TEP, not a propaganda bit with TSP dunking on TEP.

The fact that this is a hit piece aimed squarely at trying to influence TEP citizens means that any talks, if they even occurred, did not go the way XKI wanted them to.

Incessant whinging from the peanut gallery of days long past aside, this seems like a sound statement with sensible conclusion. It's good to see TEP-XKI maintaining their relationship moving forward, as well as TSP's involvement as a mutual ally of both. Condolences to all involved regions for having to be dragged into this at all on account of The Black Hawks' carelessness towards Foreign Relations.

To the assorted non-GP neutrals reading this, a good tip when entering Gameplay is to generally ignore Evil Wolf ;)
