I live in the UK, and for many years charities have been encouraging people to make monthly donations. It's easy to go online and set up a Direct Debit payment from your bank account. And ticking a box allows the charity to reclaim tax from the government on top of your donation, so boosting it by about 25%. And that's all the effort it takes.
I'm just one of millions of people that do this. I thought this poll would be a good way to boost awareness of the charities, encourage altruism, and also see which way people voted.
Donating money is easy if you have a regular disposable income. Far more inspiring is people giving up their time for causes. I've had quite a few players share with me about the work they've done. Like the person who helps out at the hospital every week. Or the player who wrapped up Christmas presents for children whose parents were in jail.
The
poll results were really interesting to see. It quickly became a race between the World Wildlife Fund (the eventual winner) and Medecins Sans Frontieres. I'm glad that every charity got a vote though - it shows that all the causes were valued.
