Hope this fits the bill. It's a bit hard to work with considering the version of the eagle with no outlines is hard to find transparent.

So I did some fiddling with my flag and wanted an expert to take a look. I would like to change the laurel/lightning bolt to an octopus or eight-spoked ship's helm. Any color suggestions or alterations would be appreciated - feel free to spruce it up to make it a bit more visually appealing! I picked a random name from the name generator when I created this NS (my first) and am focusing on the "Oct" in the name, as in eight.

Your flag seems dark at first glance - not a great sight on flags. A perfect flag’s colour choice should be light contrasting dark. The positioning of the bar seems awkward on top, that could maybe change.

I really notice how you are choosing to have something related to eight as ‘oct’ is in your name. I like your idea of it, but something that is simple yet striking on a flag like an eight-pointed star could only fit on a flag. I know that some countries have an animal on their flag to resemble that animal’s history or patriotism of a country, like an eagle or a bear. However, I think of it that octopuses seem strange and ridiculous for a national flag - that is if you are an island country.

To be honest - I feel clueless as a correct decision on this, and maybe you could share your ideas by TG-ing me or sharing as a reply to me.

I'm very sorry, but this wasn't what I was thinking of. I should have been more specific. The hammer should be filled in with the gold/yellow colour to avoid overcomplexity, and it should be inside a more stylised, orange flame like this (with black outline removed):
