Wesstmoorland/Henry IX,

I don't know you, and you most certainly do not know me. Nonetheless, I have many years worth of interactions with Don and know well the kind of regions he builds. I won't speculate on how much of your cooperation with his actions was rooted in his manipulations versus your own genuine feelings, since I imagine it is a mix of both, but I do get the impression that you are sincere in your desire to fix things. The trouble is, Don's history of bating and switching makes it such that no one can ever trust that any meaningful change to your region will occur so long as any of those involved in the leaked plots or otherwise too closely associated with Don remains in power, and on the throne especially. As a person who has himself hurt his own region with his actions in the past, I can tell you that staying in power now will do neither you nor your region any good. People will not trust your word or any change in KGB so long as you or any other person tied to this mess sits upon the throne.

Thankfully, your current place on the throne gives the ultimate power of correcting this to you. You have only one real choice if you want to lead KGB towards a better future and that is to abdicate in favor of someone in your region who is free of the taint of this mess. This would not only send a clear message that KGB really is trying to right this wrong, but that you are sincere in both your apology and your loyalty to the good of your region. This is not the kind of reign you wanted, I am sure, and neither the length nor the sort of end to it that you might have envisioned, but it is the right thing to do, in keeping with the responsibilities that such a role should embody. As someone who has faced a similar situation, entirely because of his own actions, I understand the humiliation and unpleasantness of the affair, but it is the only real answer to the terminal problem facing your reign (and your region if you are not careful).

I must agree with Gerzam. John, Cephal, Victor, and anyone else in the King's inner circle should not be king. Charles was and is the Prince of Wales. I would recommend starting with him. As far as I'm aware, he doesn't have the taint of the Curia smeared on him. If not, well you've got an extensive Line of Succession to work from, I recommend taking a look at it right now.

Well JayDee, As far I can tell you (and the others readers) Things are going to change. Seems that people love to be here in our Embassy. But its the Nature of NS right? First say shit of Fendas, then be direct the shit against TGW (Where, to be honest I have a few friends that I stim), then Lazarus with their Elections and Attempt of Coup, then dont know, I tried to evade dramas, and Now KoGB with lots of episodes. The thing is that people loves Drama.

I Have an Idea, why just dont walk away for a while, and stay in the expectation of our Changes. Dont Worry we will not fall down or disappear, we will remain and rebuild, We will fight, and grow. Any word said by our King-Emperor Henry IX, is not enough for you guys, and keep expecting apologies, so if any word of him works, why keep asking for formal statements? Seems like a Loop.

The Drama is Over, keep in mind that the Great Empires had this kind of problems, and there was always someone like Henry IX that make mistakes, but didnt run away, if not, remain to rebuild, and dont bury the truth, if not take it as example of what must not be repeated.

Day 35: The Royal Drafter has gone on the sick and I am left sitting on my royal throne constantly pushing out the latest draft. The royal attendants are refusing to come near me, they claim that I smell. Oh why didn't I take the Ghost's offer and move to Bognor? Who will rid me of these turbulent priests?! Where is that Victoria Sponge that I ordered!? It's rude to keep the King waiting!

Jacobite Resurgence

The first week of September was a big one for the Kingdom of Great Britain. Two monarchs abdicated a seventy-two hour period, leaving the throne to John Stuart-Mountbatten, formerly the Prince Royal. Taking the regnal name Henry IX Stuart, the new king set about the process of regional reformation. This included a reform of the Royal Titles, Once several sentences long, King Henry has shortened the official list of Royal Titles to those that were traditionally held by the British Monarch, as well as the changing of all regional flags, oaths, and stylings. “The work is, of course, ongoing,” said His Majesty, “but it is essential, and we must pull together as a region to build something new.”

As soon as the Succession was announced, King Henry announced that there would be a Constitutional Convention, the first in our region’s history. Led by the Lord High Chancellor and the Rt. Honourable Speaker of the House of Commons, Wilhelm von Churchill, it was decided by the assembled MPs and Lords to start the work by dividing up into committees consisting of four members, two from each house, who would write the bulk of the constitution before coming back together to debate amendments and refine wording. The biggest focus of attention was the Monarchy, wherein all those gathered expressed their interest in establishing a more regulated, constitutional form of government. After recent controversy and interregional incidents, Parliament went about the process of decentralizing power from the Monarchy and back to the Government and Parliament. A significantly reformed Monarchy saw itself only retaining command of the Military, with advice from the Prime Minister, and the ability to issue Imperial Decrees with Parliamentary consent. Further judicial checks were introduced on monarchical authority, and the judiciary of the region was restructured and further separated from the other branches of government. The new Constitution was approved by the Joint Session of Parliament and was unanimously ratified by a referendum of the region's citizens with a vote of eighteen to zero.

Election

After the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention, King Henry IX called for new elections. In an election dominated by the United National Alliance led by Leopold Mountbatten, though well fought by the Royal Traditionalist Party, eventually a majority was won by the UNA, who won six out of the seven seats in Parliament. Regardless of the dominance, there were some heated moments through the campaign mostly centred around candidate Asce de Vitre, whose controversial views throughout the Constitutional Convention and followed him further into his campaign eventually only garnered him six votes in the final result. In the spoiler below are the results of our elections.

Image

Cabinet Picks

Immediately after the conclusion of the election, Parliament then went on to elect the Prime Minister for the coming term. The UNA dominated House of Commons unanimously selected Leopold Mountbatten to be the Prime Minister, a candidate who was then easily confirmed by the Lords and then formerly appointed by the King. As soon as he was formerly appointed, Prime Minister Mountbatten went on to select his Cabinet. Arthur Vasentius was selected to be Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney General, Bunny Coniglietto was selected to be Foreign Secretary, Vac was selected to be Culture Secretary, Francis Thomas was selected to be Home Secretary, and Winston von Churchill was selected as Education Secretary.

Image

Judicial Nominations

At the Start of the term Prime Minister Mountbatten selected his nominations to the Supreme Court to join Chief Justice Nathaniel Juris on the bench. JayDee Bonaparte, Louis Mountbatten, and newcomer to the region Dwayne Overbey were nominated by the Prime Minister. The House of Lords are now in the process of confirming what many consider to be an all-star group of Justices.

Image

Parliamentary Activity

The House of Commons got immediately to work after Parliament was opened. Along with selecting Leopold Mountbatten as Prime Minister, Owen Bonaparte was also selected as the Speaker unanimously.

Member of Parliament for Wales Vac is currently in the process of putting Parliament to the test with two rapid fire pieces of legislation. One amending the Criminal Code making lying on military and government applications illegal, and the other a Constitutional Amendment adding the right to competent legal counsel during a trial to our region's version of the “Bill of Rights”.

Member of Parliament for The Midlands, Edward Pierce who is also a newcomer to both the region and Parliament, has put before the House of Commons a revision to the Criminal Code attempting to provide full coverage to corruption amongst government officials, providing further checks on any greedy or self serving individuals in government.

Image

Executive Orders

Alongside his Cabinet choices, Prime Minister Mountbatten also announced two Executive Orders. One of these orders, Executive Order XI, create the Department of Education. The purpose of the Department of Education is to create educational material on how to pass our region’s Bar Exam, a guide to being an ambassador, a set of general introductory guides for newcomers, and a guide on how to manually recruit for the region. The department will also be responsible for managing the Regional Message Board and assisting other Cabinet Ministers in their duties.

The other, Executive Order XII, created The Executive Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, or the EFAAC. The EFAAC will always be made up of The King, The Prince of Wales, The Deputy Prime Minister, and The Foreign Secretary plus any additional members of the Prime Minister's choosing. Currently the only two additions are Member of Parliament and Cabinet Secretaries Francis Thomas and Vac, two NationStates veterans, with close to a decade of game experience between the two of them.

A Succesful Parliament Comes To A Close

The last Parliament was indeed very successful given the recent events in the region. When the term began the region was still reeling from these events and was operating under a new Constitution, which rapidly changed the system in which the region operated. Changing from a very powerful monarchy to a more powerful civil government left many things to be changed in regards to regional law. Proposals to change the criminal code to make lying on government documents a punishable offence. More proposals were made to the Criminal Code to go after corrupt politicians who abuse their power for political gain. Constitutional Amendments were also considered in regards to Justices and conflicts of interest, changing the number of constituencies from 7 to 5, and in ensuring citizens got a right to fair representation in court. The latter two of which were signed before the end of term. Parliament also considered the British Assembly Act, which was later changed to the Citizens’ Mock Parliament Act which would create a body in which citizens not in Parliament or Government could get together over issues pertaining to RP and even potentially have bills before Parliament itself. Throughout the term with the multitudes of legislation that was proposed there was also much discussion going on with this bills. With some bills being returned from the House they originated in with new amendments attached.

Election

For the first time in a long while the Kingdom of Great Britain experienced a truly fierce election. At its onset it looked like the United National Alliance was going to see another landslide majority in Parliament but after the party chose Jay Dee Bonaparte as its leader two incumbent MPs: Vac Mercer and Francis A. Thomas resigned from the party and joined the Whigs propping up Vac as its leader with Francis Thomas and Francis Fortier running as the other candidates. This left the UNA with two candidate: Jay Dee Bonaparte and Rikki Molchaniye-Arche. The other UNA candidate, Edward Pierce suspended his campaign in a supposed backlash against backroom political dealings but would later rejoin the race as an independent. Another party would also join the race itself with two candidates. The Freedom Party formed and quickly chose Regionia Kennedy and Asce de Vitre as their candidates for Parliament. An active and tight campaign would soon take place with all the campaigns releasing substantial campaigns. When the polls finally opened the results were unexpected. With the Whigs being the only party able to form a government without a coalition people were biting their nails at who would come into 10 Downing Street after the election and these concerns grew after candidate Edward Pierce released a statement saying he wouldn’t back any candidate for Prime Minister. The polls closed and Parliament was hung. Francis A. Thomas and Vac Mercer were elected from the Whigs, Jay Dee Bonaparte and Rikki Molchaniye-Arche were elected from the UNA, and Edward Pierce was elected as an independent. In the end Pierce would have to go back on his previous claim in order for a government to be able to form, angering a select few citizens who voiced their anger in the Strangers Gallery. In the end former long time Prime Minister, Vac Mercer was chosen as Prime Minister and would soon announce his Government.

For Deputy Prime Minister he chose Jay Dee Bonaparte. His Home Secretary would be Nicolas Kennedy. His Foreign Secretary would be Francis A. Thomas. He chose Nyx Lancaster as his Culture Secretary. His Education Secretary would be Rikki Molchaniye-Arche. His Attorney General would be William Kudrow. However, Jay Dee Bonaparte would resign not long into the term and the Prime Minister would choose Edward Pierce to take his place.

Interview With The Former Prime Minister

What is your fondest memory here?

My best memory here was when I got my first government position: Secretary of Culture. I was excited to have a part to play in the region and was willing to show my chops.

What would you say was the lowest point of you being here?

The lowest point was the time period immediately after the "Shadow War" events. People were leaving left and right and it appeared to me as if the region would implode on itself.

After all the allegations came out about our former King in relation to what we call the Shadow War what pushed you to stand by KoGB and keep going?

I stayed here because I have seen other regions fall into disarray after major events such as the "Shadow War" and I couldn't let that happen in a place where I finally fit in on NationStates. I decided that I would not run away from the challenge of getting the region back onto it's feet again and lead the region into its rebound into the NationStates sphere.

During your term as Prime Minister, what was the high point or greatest success of the term?

The greatest success was in the Culture Department and the efforts behind the Radio program. I am proud to have been able to work with Vac on the various activities there and I am glad that Nyx will be there to continue his work.

What was the low point of your term?

My lowest point of the term was the fact that the Attorney General's Office was not going to plan at all. It was falling far behind my schedule and much of the work that could have been put into the Mock Trials was pushed very behind due to inadequate leadership on my behalf. I am glad to see progress thoug
