Autism Awareness Week, v2.0?

A few years ago, was it 2? I can't recall... During my tenure as Delegate of TWP we ran the first ever Autism Awareness Week...

Since April is Autism Month, I was wondering if more regions would be willing to run it? It is a rather simple thing. I would create a dispatch (we used this one 2 years ago: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=612049) with information about autism for all involved regions to pin to their WFEs. We paint our WFEs blue, which is the "color" chosen to raise awareness of autism, and we try to increase awareness and knowledge about Autism to all our large community.

I'd like to see how many people is interested. I'd like Delegates of course to sign on this, as they control their WFEs and the idea is to paint NS blue for ONE WEEK only.

It would be a good idea to have some way for individual nations to participate as well. Maybe a blue flag or something.

Most people who are actually autistic prefer Autism Acceptance Month and to use red instead because Autism Awareness month is led by Autism Speaks, which is historically bad at actually representing autistic people and hurts more than it helps.

So if we could do red instead, that'd be great.

I know the political background behind this argument, and I have always steered clear of it. I have personally work with the Autism Awareness Group in CR, but neither Autism Speaks themselves nor the Autism Acceptance movement have ever been very present around here... While I understand what you say and I consider it an opinion worth respected, there is a bigger impact on Media from the Autism Awareness Month and Blue... I wouldn't know, honestly, if it is worth to get into that discussion. We could just run our own version, call it however we want, run it in purple perhaps, and do it more regularly.

I always intended to do it yearly, but last year I was... eh... busy or otherwise occupied and no one ran it for me unfortunately

As there are regions willing to go with this, I'll produce updated Dispatches and stuff and I'll use those flags and ribbon. I welcome everyone to join, this has no ill or bad intentions of any sort, but for us as a community to learn and understand and accept.

If there is people who feels the approach is not correct, I still invite you to share the idea as modified as needed in their regions and nations, the more people we can reach the best.
