The irony of a nation named "Nouvelle Acadie" in NSUK speaking favorably of your Monach is not lost on me.

Press Release - October 2023 General Election

Press Release - October 2023 General Election

This term was unique in recent history for the vast change at the top of our Government. The term saw significant turnover of government positions, seeing 2 Governments formed under multiple Prime Ministers, the first one having resigned after less than a month in office and the other being removed from Office by Parliament. This has resulted in the General Election being postponed to an earlier date following the removal of the Prime Minister.

This General Election was one surprising election, with only one candidate being nominated for Prime Minister. Klaus Mikaelson, Marques of Belfast, making him the first uncontested Prime Minister since George Stewart’s election over a year ago. While it is a surprise to see the Head of Government to be elected unopposed, the region is in need of stability after the events of last term, so it is no surprise that the region got behind one of its oldest citizens, and 3rd longest serving Prime Minister ever.

In the election to the House of Commons, this was the second election that allowed the citizenry to decide the size of the House of Commons. This vote saw a return to a 5 seat House of Commons, having seen a 7 seat House of Commons for the first time in 2 years last session. Having seen 7 nominations for MP, this meant that there were going to be two candidates that were not elected. The seven candidates running for the House of Commons were: Richard Stewart, the recently elected leader of the Labour and Cooperative Party, Akillian Talleyrand, Leader of the United National Coalition, Vac Mikaelson, SF candidate and incumbent MP, Klaus Mikaelson, Founder of Sinn Fein, Aaron Reynolds-Bauheim, Sinn Fein candidate, Jacob Mikaelson, Sinn Fein Leader, and Vibhor Mikaelson, Sinn Fein Chairman. Following an active campaigning period, and debate hosted by the BBC, the results were as follows:

STEWART, Richard (LabCo) A Co-operative Party Candidate. - 17 (14.17%) - ELECTED
TALLEYRAND, Akillian (UNC) A United National Coalition Candidate. - 21 (17.50%) - ELECTED
MIKAELSON, Vac (LabCo) A Co-operative Party. - 13 (10.83%)
MIKAELSON, Klaus (SF) A Sinn Fein Candidate. - 23 (19.17%) - ELECTED
REYNOLDS-BAUHEIM, Aaron (SF) A Sinn Fein Candidate. - 18 (15.00%) - ELECTED
MIKAELSON, Jacob (SF) A Sinn Fein Candidate. - 13 (10.83%)
MIKAELSON, Vibhor (SF) A Sinn Fein Candidate. - 15 (12.50%) - ELECTED

This marks the return of the Sinn Fein majority in the Parliament, having picked up 3 of the 5 seats. The first order of business for the House of Commons was the election of the Speaker, where Aaron Reynolds-Bauheim, a former Speaker, was elected unopposed. While his election was not as competitive when compared with others, it helped us witness some good candidates being elected into these positions and during their time, we can expect few changes to take place.
