NationStates Generations

Hello everyone, I've decided to classify NS players into generations from when they joined. I'd like some possible help on this. I already have a name for the old-timers!

The Primeval Generation
2002-2003

Defining 'Primeval' as of the earliest history of the world. This description perfectly fits early NSers. Players founded within this short range are labeled as "Founded in Antiquity."

The Primeval Age was a very complicated one. Most of the Game-Created Regions were already created and had governments. However, this age was knee-deep in political instability. Governments were toppled every day, foreign nations rose to power, regions were colonized and captured. Gameplay started out with only a few notable organizations. The Farkers, and Atlantic Alliance are just a couple that come right off my tongue. After a huge increase in coups, raids, and colonizations, defending became a way to fight back.

Well, I see Unibot has already done this. However, I'm going to do this for the current generation.

Never, Kyo! :)

I will rise to power and control all the GCRs! :lol2:

You will not stop me! This topic is only the beginning!

Maybe you could get in contact with Unibot to have him update this instead?

How different was the site 10 years ago?

Very buggy, a lot more paranoia (SWATH) between regions and the mods were trigger happy.

I concur with Kyorgia.

Unibot didn't get DEATED.

He still owns Unibot III, and if he would like to update his generations post, he can. This thread will just now be used to classify the current generation. What should us NSers from 2014-2018 be called?

I concur with Kyorgia.

I concur with both Kyo and Tim. This is unnecessary, and will potentially devide players even more along different lines.

Unibot's first iteration was in fact deleted, but yes, he still has Unibot III.

My biggest qualm with this is that my generation was during a generally lame time during nationstates GP. After the creation of the sinkers (Osiris, Balder) and before the coup renaissance (TSP and the multiple coups in Osiris and Lazarus). It was also before the changes to telegrams, recruiting, dispatches, regional officers, embassy RMB posting and the world activity page.

Antiquity, Pre-Influence, Post-Influence, GCR Revival, DEN, Present Day.

These are broad generalizations:
Antiquity is basically dated first day until the cutoff date for antiquity nations on the forum.

Pre-Influence is after Antiquity-2006. I don't exactly recall when influence was implemented, so just adjust that.

Post-Influence 2007-2009/10

GCR Revival 2010-2014

DEN 2014-2016

Etc

I've had something similar to Unibot, but far more simpler. Don't remember all of it nor dates. So this is just a generalization.

TBR-DEN please, also do we really want to give overly flashy, rulebreaking, userite Raiders any credit? I wouldn't name an entire game era after them, it leaves a bad taste.

Alright, I'll bite. This is just a rough guide using the old names that I hypothesized years ago.

Raleigh Generation (2007-2009) - Unibot, Milograd, Solorni, Glen-Rhodes, AMOM, Earth, Belshaft, Guy, Wordy, Kazmr, Fratt etc.

The generation that led the Great Revival. As the Who once sang, My generation...

Alaric Generation (2010-2013) - Cormac Stark, Jakker, Benevolent Thomas, August, Hobbes, Consular, Pergamon etc.

The generation that saw the revival through to its conclusion: filling the ranks of the UDL, PRL, the UIAF. Many principally involved with the emerging Cold War.

Zhuangzi Generation (2013-2015) - Nephmir, Ever-Wandering Souls, Deadeye Jack, Writinglegend etc.

Pretty much all of the big institutions of the day went belly-up overnight - the UDL conclave, then the recruitment moratorium, NLO, and Predator. This generation were the players who made their mark in that emerging vacuum and helped to put the pieces back together.

Croatoan Generation (2015-2017) - Roavin, Yuno etc.

A new emergent generation rising to leadership all over NationStates. The "Discord" generation. ;)

EDIT: And I channel my inner fifteen year old self and dub thee future generations: Gainas, Mozi, and Orinoco. o/

What are even these "generation names" you've come up with? Where do they come from?

Are they references to explorers?

I dunno, man. I dunno. I was fifteen and liked to name things. Those were the names I chose. Some generation names were named after Greek mythology, Chinese literature, Visigoths and I just really loved the story of Walter Raleigh as a kid and the first song I mastered on guitar was "I'm So Tired" ("Sir Walter Raleigh, he's such a git.") There's a vague theme of exploration, renaissance, and decline attached to most/some of the names.

Croatoan Generation refers to the letters, "CROATOAN" which were knifed into a tree on the remnants of the Lost Colony. When I named the Croatoan generation, I believed NationStates would die around 2016. Hence "the lost generation," tied with Walter Raleigh for symmetry. Raleigh formed the lost colony.

Why not? It's history no matter what happened, and it was a good time, people had fun. At the height of TBR and DEN we dominated raiding and became one of the most hated organizations to ever exist in NS.

Don't kid yourself, GGR were the most hated. TBR/DEN couldn't annoy the GCRs like them.

Unless Kazmr used a different nation for a while you've put him in the wrong generation :p

DYP, that's why I said "one of the most" hated.

What is it with the bandwagoning of threads on the forum over the last few months? The Lazarus threads, the anonymous puppets, the Awards threads, and now all these historical "analysis" threads. Are the NS forums becoming like Facebook where every few weeks, there is a new thing that people put as their status? :P
