The New United Kingdom
Dieu et mon droit.

The New United Kingdom is a laid-back British themed region, with a focus on fun! We engage in all sorts of activity, including:

    - Politics
    - Role-play
    - Forum Games
    - Law
    - Spam
    - Inter-regional Diplomacy
and much more!

We're not really big like some British-themed regions, but we're large enough to be able to get things done. We're welcoming to any newcomers, and are happy to help them get involved as quickly as possible. You can go from joining the region to becoming a key member of a political party very quickly. Or, you can just sit back, answer issues, and not get too involved. We don't mind either way.

Here are a few snapshots into life in the New United Kingdom:
History

The region was founded in January 2017, after The New United Kingdom was destroyed by its founder, Lord Carlisle. Some refugees from the destroyed region decided to found New United Kingdom, to serve as a continuation of the old region. Not everyone moved over, so we unfortunately lost some individuals, but new people started joining the new region. Ever since then, we've had several elections, Governments, laws passed, role-plays and Delegates!

Culture

The region engages in lots of different things. We operate one main role-play, in which we play British characters having all sorts of discussions, parties, arguments, romances, and the occasional wedding. This role-play often spills out to the rest of regional life, and onto the Discord chat. We also sometimes do more traditional, confined role-play, such as a 1930's one, or an Avengers one. We plan to do more of these in the future.

Politics

One of the most important parts of our region is politics. We have regular elections for seats in the House of Commons, and Peers of the House of Lords are appointed by the Monarch. We have had political parties come and go, and there have been some very close elections. Politics is often the main source of drama for our region, and sometimes it gets intense. However, we all recognise that this is a game, and try not to get too worked up about politics - every candidate always wants the same thing, after all: to help the region.

The Regional Message Board

Our RMB is quite active, and contains an eclectic mixture of posts. Some people are talking about policies they implemented, others talking about their national leaders and factbooks, and there's the occasional political debate. Our Regional Message Board is a place for new nations to get involved, and for people to vote in the World Assembly Poll, which influences our Delegate's vote.

So, if you are looking for an enjoyable experience in NationStates, or want to get involved in a fun political region that's always open to suggestions, New United Kingdom is the place for you! If you're brand new to NationStates, we can help guide you through this game. If you have a bit more experience, we'd love it if you got involved with whatever interests you - be it law, government, role-play, or something else!

December 2017 and January 2018 Foreign Update

Welcome to the New United Kingdom's Foreign Update! There's been a lot going on in the region, so this edition is really quite full. We weren't able to write detailed reports on everything, so here's a quick breakdown of the other news:

  • The region has started a brand new recruitment campaign, with 100 telegrams sent everyday.
  • The RMB hosted a discussion on the pros and cons of English, Francais, and Español. Personally, although English is my main language, j'aime parler en français, y hablo español!
I'd like to thank all those who contributed to the Update (in order of appearance): George Wessex, Lucas Wessex, Charles Watson-Turing-Donald, and King Edward Windsor.

Constitutional Convention
Image

A Constitution is the basic law of the land. It provides for basic governance, created by its people and affords them protections and rights. As such, it is important to have a Constitution which reflects the needs of the region, her people and its practical. That is to say that all elements of the Constitution work with one another without conflict. As time has gone in and despite several amendments to the Constitution of the region, HRH The Prince of Wales, who at the was the Prime Minister, announced, with the Consent of His Majesty The King a Constitutional Convention.

Over the course of just two months, representatives from all branches of Government worked with the citizens, as one too; debate, review and re-write all articles of the Constitution. There was some heated debate most notably over the Executive and Parliament, including the election of the Prime Minister - should a Westminster system be followed or a Prime Minister directly elected? In the end, it was decided to provide a basic framework which allowed legislation to be presented to regulate elections and the election of the Prime Minister. In a unique way, the Privy Council was also given the power to review and re-structure Parliament, so that it may always, meet the needs of the region, without requiring new legislation.

On 28th November 2017, the Second Constitution was voted on in a public referendum, where it received 83.3% in favour.

Carlisle's Return
Image

If you've been on the New United Kingdom's RMB any time in the past two weeks, you may have noticed a rather menacing presence. It appears that our old dictator, Lord Carlisle, is back at it again! In case you don't remember, Lord Carlisle is the man who, last January, suspended the constitution of what was then TNUK and declared himself absolute ruler as Founder and King, before proceeding to banject just about everyone in the region. Now, it appears that Carlisle has something to say.

Just what, exactly, that something may be is a bit of a guessing game. We can say definitively that he's got something against our founder, HRH Cobi Wessex, Prince Royal, as well as against our Sovereign, HM King Edward X. We know that he sees our region as illegitimate, and that he lays claim to NUK (as well as other regions such as KGB) as a subsidiary region of The United Kingdom or TUK, which he's now somehow become the leader of (with all its whopping 13 nations!). He seems to think that we're a region of raiders. Oh, and apparently "whoever wins the Ashes, gets a celebration party," whatever the f*** that means.

The thing to watch about Carlisle's return has been the response of NUKers on the RMB. Some have declared that Carlisle is a "fracking nutter" and have wished him well in his loony bin. Some have considered whether it's worth waging war against Carlisle and TUK. Others have suggested turning this saga into a reality television programme. A ban on Carlisle was considered, and still may happen. But ultimately, it was The Republic of The Free Mercians who best summed up the regional response:

"Umm... K."

We'll be sure to re-visit this story in a future update if Lord Carlisle manages to ever be taken seriously! :)

December Elections
Image

Politics - one of the most important and fun parts of the New United Kingdom, and of NationStates as a whole. It kicked off again in early December, when King Edward announced a parliamentary election. This time, only three Constituencies were available, so it was going to be a tight race. First to announce candidacy was regional co-founder Connor Wessex, who was running as an Independent. Next, mere hours after returning to the region from retirement, was Charles Watson-Turing-Donald, who was running for the Conservative Progressive Party (CPP). He was followed by Lucas Wessex, leader of the CPP. Soon after Crushita Telcontar was added to the ballot, for the pseudo-satirical Not A Party (NAP). The final, last-minute announcement was that of new citizen and legal expert Tiberius Cecil, who was also running as an Independent.

Next came the campaigns. All candidates, except from Crushita, posted campaigns, which covered such topics as ensuring the new Constitution didn't conflict with existing laws, and increasing the region's foreign relations. The same sentiments were expressed in the Candidate Debate, expertly hosted by His Majesty the King. All candidates seemed qualified, and nobody was clearly winning.

And so it was that early on December 7th, the polls opened. For 48 hours the public voted for the future Members of Parliament. The results were as follows, with expert commentary added for your convenience. Those in bold were elected as MPs:

~ Connor Wessex (Independent) - 20.8% - A fantastic campaign by Connor, which resulted in his fully deserved election.
~ Charles Watson-Turing-Donald (CPP) - 33.3% - After coming out of retirement, and being announced as the CPP's Prime Ministerial Candidate, Charles gained exactly one third of all votes.
~ Lucas Wessex (CPP) - 29.2% - With a focus on activity, Lucas gained the second-highest number of votes. The former Prime Minister clearly isn't going anywhere!
~ Crushita Telcontar (NAP) - 0% - Perhaps due to his lack of campaign, not a single person voted for this potato-themed Canuck. As Crushita would say, "Praise Spud!"
~ Tiberius Cecil (Independent) - 16.7% - A newcomer to the region, but not to NationStates, Tiberius' well-written campaign resulted in him being just a single vote away from being elected. We hope he will try again in the next elections!

As Charles was the CPP's Prime Ministerial candidate, and the CPP gained the majority of the House of Commons, Charles was sworn in as Prime Minister on December 11th. He now currently leads the Government.

Congratulations to all those elected, and commiserations to those who didn't make it this time around.

The King's New Year's Address
02/01/2018

Fellow Citizens of the New United Kingdom,

"Every time you tear a leaf off a calendar, you present a new place for new ideas and progress." - Charles Kettering

A New Year has now begun, full of possibilities, opportunities and wonder, yet also full of pitfalls and dangers. However, I am reassured time and time again that the resilience, determination and steadfastness of the Citizens of the New United Kingdom will be more than enough to overcome any challenge that this Realm might face.

In this coming year, I sense a renewed age of prosperity, growth and regional development as we expand and promote our ideals of freedom, justice and democracy across NationStates. Whilst we were once a small and closed off realm, we are now an optimistic and outward society which is more like a family than a region; a family of which I am so proud and honoured to be a member.

Whilst it is traditional for many people to celebrate the New Year via a New Year's Eve celebration, as many of us have done, I would like to host a celebration of the New Year now, within the new year itself. 2018 will be a great year for the Realm and so it seems fitting to celebrate our hopes and dreams for the year in it. As such, I invite you all to join myself and members of the Royal Family at Sandringham tomorrow where we shall toast to the future and remember the past.

I hope you all enjoy a happy and fulfilling year and look forward to sharing all of the happiness that it has to offer with you all!

Long Live the New United Kingdom!

Yours faithfully,

Government Statement Regarding Kingdom of Great Britain

Postby Intelligeneria » Sat Jan 13, 2018 2:17 pm

Image

It has come to the Government's attention that the region Kingdom of Great Britain (KGB), or individuals thereof, have been involved with deplorable behaviour, and violations of the NationStates site rules. Members of KGB were found to be impersonating other players for military purposes, and created nations that were seemingly identical to puppets used by other players. The key perpetrators were punished by NS Moderators, however it is believed that at least one other individual of power within the Kingdom of Great Britain were implicated, and have not yet faced any consequences. What is perhaps most frustrating is that we have heard no official statement from KGB regarding this issue on their NationStates forum page.

Firstly, breaking the site rules at any time is condemnable, particularly in such a malicious manner. But things like this happen. The more worrying thing is the way in which this was handled by institutions within the region of KGB. The most admirable way to deal with this would be to launch a full, independent inquiry into the allegations, with the results posted, so that both the region's population and any external onlookers can have all the facts. Instead, we got no official statement, and there seem to have been no consequences for those involved. It is hard to find the truth of this matter, and authorities within KGB are not making this easier.

It is reprehensible incidents such as this which reflect poorly on the reputation of both KGB and of British-themed regions as a whole. It is this which has influenced the Government's decision to minimise relations with the Kingdom of Great Britain. We will be closing our forum embassy, as per Article 4 of the Embassy Act (2017). If the allegations are true, the New United Kingdom does not wish to associate with a region which would carry out that kind of activity. If the allegations are false, we might reconsider, but still resent the fact that there has been no word from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

I haven't even seen any unofficial gossip being chucked about in the GP forum, either. Are you unintentionally breaking news here, or is this just a revival of the whole KoGB controversy that was sparked up around September or thereabouts?

This is mainly a reaction to the fact that after this long, we have seen no response from KoGB. The issue has been raised multiple times by people posting on their NSGP Forum Embassy, and yet still no reply. I'm not trying to revive any controversy here, this was originally intended for members of New United Kingdom, but I thought it best to post it here, on a public platform as well.

Between the last update and now, the Prime Minister has been working with Edward Stuart, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Great Britain, along with other individuals, in order to determine what really happened. Mr. Stuart has published his findings here. The Prime Minister would like to thank Mr. Stuart for his honesty, integrity, and determination to find the truth. He has done a service to his region, and to NationStates as a whole. Upon reading my previous post, he reached out to me, expressing his intent to make things right. I’d also like to thank all those who assisted with his investigation, and provided him with information.

The next stage in the process is to ensure that those responsible pay the price. Whether the consequences come from NationStates moderators, the KGB courts, or somewhere else entirely, there should be consequences for Vac Mercer. He has lied, covered up the truth, stabbed others in the back, and tried to avoid any reparations. This conduct is inexcusable, and shames all British regions. It also proves that the culture of cutthroat politics which has always reigned over KGB is still prevalent. The individuals who believe in freedom, justice and peace now have the task of ending that culture. Remember, this is just a webgame. An amazing webgame, but that doesn’t mean it’s alright to break friendships, betray others, or lie to avoid punishment.

As for the NUK, we will be watching the situation in KGB closely. For the time being, our foreign relations will remain where they are currently, but that is open to change, if we feel things have sufficiently changed.

Just a notice that I've removed your festival announcement post due to offering prizes with tangible monetary value for participation, which is in violation of the site rules. I'm not giving out any warnings for it at this time, as the rules were clarified regarding this only recently. Just like you can't use NS Store purchases to entice people to participate in your region/event/etc, you can't use things like gift cards and Steam codes to do so either.
