Pick one

Tell Cormac to add the Armchair award and give it to me and I'll stop bitching :)

With the addition of several awards the other one didn't have, I felt we were going to have too many awards and we could stand to lose R/D "up-and-coming" categories. I figured those could be left to R/D awards, like the Defender Awards which will have a variety of categories for defenders.

Next year, I'll have a preliminary period for people to request changes to the awards, including addition of new awards. I don't think it's a good idea for me to go changing any of the categories now that I've already opened nominations though, so these are set for this year.

I think an upcoming category would be really good for all 3 groups tbh (up and coming raider, fenda and indie). Otherwise, I'm all for Cormac running this joint, he's probably the closest that GP has to an experienced third party atm.

TG voting has suddenly become so unacceptable because there was a significant amount of discrepancy between public and private votes in last years awards, and the mysterious host's unwillingness to reveal themselves means that the community has no reason to believe that they are capable enough to be able to differentiate between puppet voting and genuine votes. Public voting makes it all a lot easier and avoids all the potential voting fraud that could happen within the awards. As for the boycott, we'll see if there is one, but I imagine the vast majority of prominent GPers will far prefer Cormac's thread to the anonymous one.

This all just seems to be nonsense drama (that nobody cared about the past years) over some silly awards that don't matter lol

I was under the impression you'd been around Gameplay long enough to know that pretty much everything here is nonsense drama over silly things which don't matter.

Well considering it's only been recently posted, and it is just nominations, not voting yet. Wouldn't be too off to maybe add one or two additions, *Cough* Like my suggestion.*cough* Then just do a more thorough process next year.

Tim-Opolis wrote:Gameplay Group of the Year is an inherently R/D-affiliated thing, because R/D is such a major part of being relevant in Gameplay. If you can find me a candidate who would actually have a chance of winning Gameplay Group of the Year and doesn't have a military tied to it, I'll genuinely be amazed. Europeia, TGW, the GCRs, and pretty much any other region in NSGP that want to be relevant all have militaries. They don't just have 'em for fun, you know. Having an R/D Military, and a capable and active one at that, is a major part of being influential and relevant in NSGP as a region, whether the non-R/Ders like it or not.

You seem to be trying to look for awards which don't revolve around R/Ders, but awards such as the GP Thread of the Year, Meltdown, and Armchair will always ultimately be centered around R/D in some way. I mean, hell, Armchair is literally an award for the most prominent R/D activists who don't actually actively R/D.

In past years some of my :codger: ideas would have a chance. If there was ever "Lifetime Achievement Award for a non-R/Der, non Couper who had a the biggest impact on GP", I definitely should be one of the leading contenders (to blatantly toot my own horn.) :P

Lifetime Gameplay Achievement:
Optional Explanation:

Gameplayer of the Year: August
Optional Explanation: I prefer to reward region building over R/D and reading up on August's achievements in building up 5 UCRs is incredible. The only concern is that most of the build up was through 2016, the final form revealed in Apr 2017 and the formal united entity was retired in August

Gameplay Group of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Defender of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Defender Group of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Raider of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Raider Group of the Year: The Dark Vanquishers
Optional Explanation: It's not capable of making an impact but active enough to be this year's meme for representing all the newbish overconfident raiding groups

Independent of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Independent Group of the Year: The Sands
Optional Explanation:The Sands, a Casino simulation region is the most unique and successful (having active participation and reasonably well known) region idea this year. It is tightly run and well managed, rotates a good variety of casino games and has re-purposed them well so it can be run through NS polls. It is also well organised, generating regular reports on Casino "winnings" and keep track of player balances.

Liberation of the Year: Boston
Optional Explanation: Liberation but not in the positive sense. The Liberation is a decision to uphold the status quo, where the long serving "natives" (a stretch imo) are silent issue players that appear to be multiple puppets on one person. Sleepers using the region as a puppet dump. IMO native should be someone should be anyone who intends to make that region a long term home, and if those new "migrants" want to force out the old community and remake a new one they should be allowed to. Or at least the liberators should acknowledge they were making a political decision with their liberation to maintain the status quo.

Raid of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Non-R/D Event of the Year: TRR and the Werewolves bot
Optional Explanation: The whole region literally seems to revolve around this game and now there are roping people from other regions under it's influence. >_>. Its claws are every where that the game has jumped from Discord and there also a version of it on the forums.

Media Outlet of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

Quote of the Year:
Optional Explanation:

--------------

The independent category is an unworkable mash up. You are asking to compare achievements of "Independent" orgs who participate in R/D to achievements of orgs and regions who have nothing to do with R/D. It doesn't quite work.

I perceived it more as a catch-all for all the R/D Groups which aren't specifically Raider or Defender. So folks like SPSF, ERN, NPA, etc

Just want to say I have no comment on which 'award' should get recognition over another. It's an award system. In a text-based game. Among people who may or may not be familiar with the behind the scenes stuff.

Lifetime Gameplay Achievement: (in no particular order, also-rans removed for the sake of preventing double-noms) Westwind, Dalimbar, Evil Wolf, Unibot, Kandarin, NES, Lord Ravenclaw, McMasterdonia, R3n, A Mean Old Man. And what the heck. Zao.
Optional Explanation: Love them or hate them, interacted with them or heard about them, all of the nominations above have significantly shaped gameplay. Any of these individuals are worthy. And, frankly, most have been the subject of Commendations and condemnations, so I guess the C&C's are good metrics for these awards?

Gameplayer of the Year: Yuno
Optional Explanation: You know, they are the delegate of that one region, TEP.

Gameplay Group of the Year: The East Pacific
Optional Explanation: I have zero bias in this nomination. They just seem like a group of fun, active individuals.

Quote of the Year: PM for this
Optional Explanation: It got a warning, so I don't really think I should post it.

Nomination Form

Lifetime Gameplay Achievement: Cormac
Optional Explanation: I mean there's really not much to be said here. He's been everywhere, everyone knows him and Gameplay is hard to imagine without him.

Gameplayer of the Year: Plagentine
Optional Explanation: I absolutely love the reports and the guy himself. Founder of a large region that has been very active in the raidosphere lately.

Gameplay Group of the Year: The Grey Wardens
Optional Explanation: WOLOLOLOLO

Defender of the Year: Vincent Drake
Optional Explanation: The name speaks for itself

Defender Group of the Year: TGW
Optional Explanation:

Raider of the Year: Kyorgia
Optional Explanation: Coz why not.

Raider Group of the Year: The Roman Empire
Optional Explanation: Very active, great reports, home to kyo and plag. Nuff said.

Independent of the Year: Liliarchy
Optional Explanation: I was going to say that while Lili isnt a very influential independent gper he's quite literally the personification of the entirety of indie activity in the raiding sphere (going on 3500 hits and some ridiculous number of updates in this year alone), but the fact is that Lili is surprisingly "present" in the R/D sphere. For some reason I can't explain people are really attracted to this introverted czech, from TGW to SPSF (it's his achievement that they are sometimes seen out and about tagging regions with us), to some members of less ideooogically aligned region such as twpaf and tbh. That being said, as was already mentioned by Kanglia, he's easily the fastest raiding wise of anyone over the last few years.

Independent Group of the Year: SPSF
Optional Explanation: Love these guys.

Liberation of the Year: Japan
Optional Explanation:

Raid of the Year: N/A
Optional Explanation:

Non-R/D Event of the Year: Canterlots Condemnation
Optional Explanation: Forever in our hearts

Media Outlet of the Year: NWB
Optional Explanation: Absolute Gold

Quote of the Year: Let's just call it "todd.flm". I think most people know what we're talking about.
Optional Explanation:

I think if we had something more impressive than a liberation, we'd just nominate that for liberation of the year anyway. After all, TBH is nominating Operation Eclipse and that was technically 200 different raids :P

When I get time I'm putting in Illuminati raid (and kinda counting the raid switch at the end) cause that was a lot of coordination and in my mind the 100+ pilers was a big deal, since it was the first time raiders had come together in those numbers since the fall of DEN

I would prefer it if "Liberation of the Year" was rebadged as "Defender Operation of the Year". While it is extremely likely that the best defender op will be a liberation, and perhaps we could get into some kerfuffles as to what a 'defender op' is, I think it's unfair to exclude defences from this award.

^, but for both sides. Best Raider Operation and best Defender Operation. That way, something like Operation Eclipse is eligible despite being tags and something like the dual European Union - Equestria Defense is eligible despite not being a liberation.

Agreed that the Independent category is messy when it's trying to cover orgs like Lily and Sands in the same place. Non-military orgs shouldn't be lumped in with military orgs, give them their own space.

I'm kind of sad to see the Best Up-and-Coming category go. While it is true that they make the awards more R/D heavy, and many voters don't know enough to nominate/vote for those slots, they were still important for inclusiveness.

IMO, the GP community over-emphasizes longevity and experience, whether it's put to good use or sits collecting dust on a shelf alike. Eager, talented, dedicated, active newcomers don't get the publicity they deserve in this game. We are now celebrating people (with the armchair award) for doing, in some cases, practically nothing...prioritizing that over celebrating people who are the brightest rising stars in their respective spheres?

New players like Merlin, who is a 5 star senior warden with 257 update missions, 1,180 defenses, 115 liberations, and 1,745 successful operations, all of which occurred in 2017, are being dropped in favor of players who might not have jumped in years? Like really? Didn't we just have a World Fair lecture on driving activity, getting people involved, and grooming new talent? The best way to lose them is to treat them like they don't exist, while pandering to the old guard.

Rant aside, I am happy to see Cormac pick up the awards and I trust him to run them well. I'll be nominating here and not in the other awards.

I don't think rejigging the name will cause any major problems, so I will go ahead and change this. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd like to thank everyone else for their suggestions, and I will be sure to take them all into account next year, but there will not be any awards added this year. With nominations started, I don't want the confusion of adding new awards after some people have already made nominations. In hindsight, I should have had a preliminary discussion of what awards to have first, but this was a spur of the moment decision to get these awards open as an alternative to the Gameplay Awards, and I also wanted to be sure to get them done before the new year so they don't clash with the Defender Awards. There will be a preliminary suggestion period next year though so I hope we can all have fun with the awards as they are this year, and next year I'll be happy to make changes based on the preliminary suggestion period and based on suggestions from this year.

Just a note to officially confirm that "Liberation of the Year" has been changed to "Defending Operation of the Year," and "Raid of the Year" has been changed to "Raiding Operation of the Year." Nominations made under the previous names will still be accepted under the new names, so there is no need for anyone who has already made nominations to make changes to their nomination forms.

How about next year we set these awards up the same way the NSWF is done. With the same categories that have been tradition over the past several years, rather than somebody making up different awards out of protest each year.

I mean, that isn't a bad suggestion, except that this is the first year these awards have existed, and most of the awards you're complaining aren't in these were new additions to the Gameplay Awards this year. So can you clarify what you mean? Because I'm not really getting it.

I’d simply rather not see next year have 3 different awards, because you run another protest with your biased newspaper, then somebody runs their own in protest of yours because you’ve happened to pull yet another Cormac controversy or whatever. Then the next year, add on another award contest because why the hell not, there are 3 already.

The Gameplay Awards have been run the same way since 2015. It’s a light-hearted superlative contest, that you, Souls, Tim, and whoever else have turned into just another bitter Gameplay drama.
