April Embassy Update
Ministry of Foreign Affairs

"Drewpocalypse" Causes Massive Population Boom
by Druing

On the 20th of March, the entire community was taken by surprise when a large personality figure publicised a videopiece covering the founding and maintenance of a nation (and subsequently ten days later, a followup), which inspired an inrush of new nation foundings worldwide. The Union saw a major uptick in new arrivals as a byproduct of this, passing the 700 residents mark. As a result, the Ministry of the Census has been inundated with new citizenship applications from all the arrivals, triggering a change in Ministry policy: two new officials were allowed to approve applicants.

The Eagle Bearer Elected to Senate By Slim Margin
by Dome Artan

The Union of Democratic States' most recent Senate General Election was reported on in the March Embassy Update and saw incumbent Senators The Noble Thatcherites, Glaciosia, Comlogical and Dome Artan all returned to the legislature’s upper house along with Blazeville Isles Territory. A mere four days later, those disappointed on missing out in the election were given another opportunity. Blazeville Isles Territory suddenly resigned their office so recently won. A Senate by-election for the vacant seat was announced by the Office of the Chancellor on the 7th of April and saw many of the candidates from the General Election return to campaigning.

As only a single seat was up for grabs, the election was conducted in a single vote manner, as opposed to the Union’s typical usage of ranked voting; additionally the winning candidate required majority support not simply the most votes. The campaign period was less focused on debate than the General Election and was mostly notable for the endorsements that came in for candidate The Eagle-Bearer, particularly that of the region’s President Phoenix Coalition.

No candidate ultimately achieved the majority support required, with The Eagle Bearer and Second United States Republic coming closest with 30% and 25% respectively. As such the Office of the Chancellor announced a runoff between the two most supported candidates to determine who would become the newest Senator. Once again the race was incredibly tight with The Eagle Bearer pulling off a one vote victory 10 votes to 9. There was a hint of controversy about ballot disqualification but ultimately the vote was accepted by all candidates and The Eagle Bearer was inaugurated on the 17th of April by the Chief Justice.

Asdersland Retires After Lengthy Career; Dome Artan Announced New WA Delegate
by Dome Artan

April was also notable for an event that had not occurred for well over a year in the Union, a World Assembly Delegate switch. Asdersland, the region’s longest serving Delegate had previously expressed a desire to step down from the delegacy stating “This is not to say I will be leaving definitively. I will stick around a little while longer as Delegate until I figure out how my replacement will work out.” The Chancellery, given the power to appoint the Delegate under the Constitution, announced on March 7th the beginning of an official interview process for the delegacy, “The Chancellors are looking for a nominee with the stamina and fortitude to maintain the position of World Assembly Delegate for a substantial period of time.”

After a lengthy review period which involved the conducting of four interviews of prospective delegates, Chancellors The Noble Thatcherites and Khevo made the official announcement of the region’s newest Delegate on April 26th. The statement, found here, honored Asderslands’ many contributions to the region with the formal renaming of the World Assembly Affairs office on the forum to the Asdersland World Assembly Affairs Building and jointly with the President awarded them the First Class Medal of Service.

The nation to take Asdersland’s place as the UDS’ Delegate was Dome Artan. Only 8 endorsements behind at the time of the announcement the transition period was set to be an historically short one. Indeed within the hour Dome Artan was in place to seize the Delegacy without needing an Asdersland resignation. The Chancellery statement cited their belief in Dome Artan’s “strength and fortitude to serve as World Assembly Delegate in the long run.” The delegacy switch comes at a time of great opportunity for the region, as mentioned in the new Delegate’s first dispatch, the so called “Drewpocalypse” resulted in the UDS seeing the greatest WA membership growth per the Shift.

USDAF Update
by Comlogical

For this April, the UDSAF participated in the liberations of Asia and Imperium of the Wolf. The organization further detagged ten regions, defended three and sieged two.

With regard to recruitment, six new members joined the armed forces, while two inactive members were reactivated to public service, including the former WA Delegate of the Union.

A Defense Memorandum was issued to outline the revamped ranking system in the Armed Forces.

Union Eagles Valiantly Removing Litter

The Eagles were busy flying on the 29th of April and found some posters from The Black Hawks. "It appears all that they want is to find their missing bot Penny” Comlogical uttered, much to the dismay of Kanglia, making his return to the field after years away. “No, they may say that they want their bot back, but they’ll forget these posters long after Penny returns. Let’s get the band back together and take them down before they forget to!” And so the Union scrambled their new wide-eyed Eagles for a proper cleaning of the town, carefully teaching them the proper methods of correctly removing adhesive stuck posts from walls, floors, and ceilings.

For pity's sake! Now how will people ever realise that we might have to resort to a third Penny if this whole shenanigans carries on like this? Don't ask me, I'm not the one in charge of the Artificial Stuff department :P

Congrats one the 10 detags, though I would be remiss not to notice you didn't detag one, and we retagged another before the report came out. Besides that, good operation!

Statement Regarding the Red Wolf Alliance
Ministry of Foreign Affairs

It has come to the attention of the government of the Union of Democratic States that the Red Wolf Alliance has had serious challenges in administering it’s official regional discord server, particularly with regard to fostering a safe environment for players of all ages. When confronted about evident issues, members of both the moderation team and cabinet shrugged off such concerns with remarks such as “not our problem y’all have an issue,” “that sounds like a you problem not our problem,” and “that’s a completely subjective take” despite the fact that conduct on the server violated clauses one and nine of the Red Wolf Alliance Code of Conduct. Both the IC and OOC administrative elements of the Red Wolf Alliance failed to recognize the importance of rigorous administration in a game with players of all ages.

The Union of Democratic States takes administration seriously and puts the safety of our members first and foremost. Since the Union views embassies as important avenues for interregional communication wherein discord visitation is encouraged, the Union cannot maintain relations with a region that fails to foster a safe environment for all players as such would put Union citizens at risk. For these reasons, the Union of Democratic States is recalling its ambassador and rescinding the Red Wolf Alliance’s embassy status. It is the opinion of the Union of Democratic States that the Red Wolf Alliance must undergo significant improvement in administrative standards and procedures before interacting with other regions. Concerned administrators can contact the UDS Administrative Team for pertinent information.

Signed,

This is the appropriate action to take. I'm rather unfamiliar with the Red Wolf Alliance, but that Delegate nation is cringe enough for me to not give them much of a glance. I must commend the decision you have made and I've noticed how active the UDSAD has been lately, which is also commendable.

I will always applaud regions that take stands against irresponsible adminstrative practices and those who foster unsafe player environments. Well done UDS!

UDSAF Eagles Put out Fires and Celebrate Christmas in May

Eagles Celebrate Christmas in May

The Eagles were out late one night, scouring the world for some friends in need of help, and boy did they find some! Several regions were left smoldering after a group of darkspawn engaged in rampant arson. Some raiders were looking for Penny, and others were just fooling around. Nevertheless, the UDSAF Eagles decided that it would be nice to help the locals put out the fires and help get rid of the remaining raider messages.

In the middle of spraying flame-retardant and digging fire lines, Com & Kang heard a roar, echoing throughout the night. “That’s no ordinary roar Kang,” shouted Com, unaware as his friend’s eyes grew four times wider with giddy memories. Without a word, Kang grabbed Com and flew to the scene. What they saw could only be described as glorious. It was the Wardens, bravely battling off Darkspawn with their allies.

In the combat, the newly returned W&S noticed the Eagles watching, and shouted “What the hell are you waiting for!?” That was all Kang & Com needed to hear, and they sprung into action. Together, with the Wardens, SPSF, RRA, TITO, & more, victory was achieved, and Christmas was saved, leading to a light snowfall that put out the remaining fires.

I would like to congratulate the UDS Armed Forces on learning how to tag raid - even if by accident. This was what Pastnow's WFE looked like before a recent raid:
Military conflict remains. Starting wars without consulting first with Allies is to be considered an affront against the diplomatic institutions very foundation with which you built those relations and can lead to other members forming an alliance of their own against you. Diversity in all aspects of life is encouraged, to further bridge integration between differing cultural backgrounds globally. Freedom of expression is paramount to our ultimate survival. We seek to actively incorporate several contrasting economic, social, political & military theories into long term applicable solutions aimed in ensuring the continuation and betterment of human life for eternity.

This is what it looked like for about a week until recently:
Mayday, Mayday, hawks spotted over the region!
It appears The Black Hawks have spent their free time on May Day erecting maypoles and partying across the land. To join in on the reverlies, sign up here and join our Discord!

The Hawks~
SGT Ezkio , trigger
CPL Fysladia
CPL Black Hawk Zazumo
PFC Edreine
PFC Crushing Our Enemies
PFC Steste

And this, my friends, is what it looks like now:
n/a.

It has been three-and-a-half days since Pastnow was allegedly "detagged" by your Minister of Defence, and you have yet to restore the region's WFE to its previous state - baffling as it might have been. At least raiders actually change regional World Factbook Entries to something more informative than "NA" when they take over the post of WA Delegate for a handful of seconds.

To address this issue:
I'm using the UDL tools for detagging and it seems that, when I input the tegion name into the tool, nothing turned out, so I was forced to leave it blank as it is.

Apologies for the error and rest assured that this issue will not reappear in our next report.

You can call it however you wish to do so, you are tagging, admittedly, fairly dead regions. You then proceed to use these dead regions as propaganda points on the off chance someone not in R/D happens to stumble along and see these tagged regions. Quite frankly, even if it is something as completely basic as "N/A" if it is not giving the Black Hawks or any other raiding organization any more attention than is unfortunately already given to you all, I consider that a success.

Bowzin has built a great tool for finding WFEs. If they were tagged after this tool was built, then you will be able to find those WFEs using it https://www.bowzin.com/wfe_archive

From what I have heard, Bowzin is also trying to add the ability to add WFEs from the time before this tool was created.

If not giving us any attention is such a primary goal, why post a GP report about us? You even furthered our search for Penny in your post!

So defenders now tag regions with even less creative WFEs than your average tagging team? Defender standards have fallen far, it would seem. Their detags are now uncreative retags and their liberations are cleanups. True heroes indeed.

It’s interesting how defenders have now given up on the whole “for the natives” narrative they kept up for so long, instead admitting they now retag. I suppose the small regions are no longer worth your protection?

I’m not criticising, of course - I eagerly await to see the next “defender” tagging run. ;)

Damn, y'all hyenas pounced on these guys. Every defender in NS was limited to leaving "N/A" or "Welcome to [region][/region]" until Bowzin unveiled his creation in March. I think we can cut them some slack for doing the same thing we never got grief for. Hell, I'm sure there are regions that were tagged before Bowzin's tool went up that still have no recorded native WFE. If anyone is to blame for this, its me for not singing Bowzin's praises from the mountaintops for all defenders to hear.
