Statement of Detente Between
The West Pacific and The South Pacific

For years, the diplomatic and political relationship between The West Pacific and The South Pacific has been strained and at times antagonistic. The long history between our regions cannot be erased by a single statement, but by signing this statement our respective governments wish to pave the first stone on the road to a future of peaceful coexistence. We recognize that there exist legitimate concerns of members of each of our regions to the idea of official relations. We also acknowledge that respectful and open dialogue and interaction between our regions would be mutually beneficial.

We, the undersigned representatives of our governments, recognize a state of detente between our two regions. It is in our strategic interests to ease our strained relations and open official channels of communication. To be clear, this is not a binding treaty of non-aggression or alliance, but it is a significant step in openly declaring that The West Pacific and The South Pacific are not enemies.

Accordingly, the governments of The West Pacific and The South Pacific agree to strive towards--

Each of our governments respecting the sovereignty of the other, and encouraging that respect among our partners and allies.
Each of our governments understanding and acknowledging that with sovereignty comes the right to govern itself in the way of its choosing.
Each of our governments committing to participate in, and invite each other to, non-political cultural activities and events in order to increase interregional awareness and friendships.
Each of our governments encouraging mutual respect and understanding of the members of our communities.

Signed:

Halo Rahl, Dragon Emperor of The West Pacific
Arkadia Universalis, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Roavin, Prime Minister of The South Pacific
Sandaoguo, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Is this an actual treaty/nap/declaration of friendship?

Cause if this is the entire announcement, Roavin has solidly disappointed me.

TSP and TWP are far from becoming allies. But many have assumed we're enemies, and that's wrong. This statement was initially started by Somyrion during his last term, and I continued it despite having serious reservations about our relations with TWP. Halo, Roavin, and myself were able to talk a lot of things through and clearly spell out where we all saw our respective regions in the game, what future we think might be possible, and the very real barriers to becoming closer. This isn't a declaration of friendship or alliance, but a statement that we aren't enemies and we intend to de-escalate whatever points of conflict our two regions have with each other.

So, TWP and TSP were not at war and this statement effectively does nothing.

Solid disappointment.

It does clarify that we are not at war and a statement of intent to closer cooperate. While not a treaty, it does somewhat improve the relationship.

An Announcement from the Administration Team

The South Pacific Administration Team is excited to announce its joining and endorsement of the Protecting Our Players Accord. We believe the merits and ideals of the Accord are ones that every forum administration team should adopt. Administration teams have a responsibility to protect their community from harm, and in this age it is supremely important to focus on inappropriate sexual behavior in an online game that many minors play. That is why we took a hard stance against sexual behaviors of any kind in 2017, and continue to treat those behaviors as bannable offenses in our community.

We hope that more regions sign on to this Accord and take a firm stance against the exposure of our communities to inappropriate sexual behavior.

Signed,
The South Pacific Administration Team

This is a respectable move by The South Pacific, and one that might indicate that their previous culture of corrupt and cavalier administrative methods might be taking stuff more seriously now.

June 2019 Cabinet Election Results

The South Pacific held its very own Pride Month election for the new Cabinet term starting the last week of June. Turnout held steady from the last general election at 37 legislators casting their ballots. TSP's legislative Assembly convened to elect four Ministers for the Cabinet: the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Regional Affairs, and the Minister of Military Affairs.

TSP pridefully announces our new Cabinet for the next four months!

Prime Minister: Nakari (Nakarisaune)
Nakari will become our new Prime Minister, running for the office uncontested. She formerly headed the South Pacific Special Forces, and also serves as a forum moderator and a member of our Legislator Committee. Uniquely among TSPers, Nakari has served as Minister at one point or another in every Ministry we have! As the next Prime Minister, Nakari's main goal will be focusing on recruitment during NS's traditionally slow summer.

Minister of Foreign Affairs: Glen-Rhodes (Sandaoguo)
Glen-Rhodes won re-election to serve another term as Minister of Foreign Affairs, putting him the running for TSP's longest-serving MoFA in our history. This will be Glen's fourth time serving as Minister, after winning against competitor North Prarie. During his career in TSP, he has also served as Chair of the Assembly, Court Justice, and currently sits on the Council on Regional Security. Glen is also a forum admin and Discord server owner. As the continuing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glen's main goal will be advocating for TSP to adopt defending as its official alignment and transition TSP into a more focused defending-driven foreign affairs program.

Minister of Regional Affairs: Rebeltopia
Rebeltopia won against competitor Islands of Unity to become our next Minister of Regional Affairs. Rebeltopia has a long history in TSP, serving in multiple offices throughout its history. After take a long break from NationStates, Rebeltopia came back to TSP and has been interested in the cultural aspects of governing since his return. His goals as our next MoRA are to develop more real-time activities like live games and movie nights. He also plans to revamp the Ministry's Welcome Committee.

Minister of Military Affairs: Witchcraft and Sorcery
Witchcraft & Sorcery is a relative newcomer to TSP elections, but has been participating in TSP for a couple years now in the SPSF. W&S sailed to victory in an uncontested election for Minister of Military Affairs, the civilian ministry that oversees the SPSF. In their campaign, W&S ran on an explicitly pro-defender platform, stating that they hope TSP embraces defending as its official alignment. In addition to that, W&S plans on updating SPSF records-keeping and rebuilding our soldier training guides, along with revamping the ranking and rewards system.

Official results, including a detailed spreadsheet of each anonymized ballot, can be found at our forums!
