Major Update 7/5/2020

On the evening of July 5th, 2020, Sweeze and Frenchy set out with the hope of reaching the peak of the Mt. Duorecord. Already at a disadvantage, Frenchy set out severely malnourished and unprepared for the journey ahead. Nevertheless, these two carried on, hoping to finally reach what has been so close yet so far away.

You may recall that a little over a month ago on June 11th, Frenchy and Sweeze set out taking a coastal route on the beach, hitting the waves, and riding on the back of their sickly bee friend hoping to make it. They were stopped by what seemed to be a Giant Hawku, who hit 7 quick blows on Frenchy and Sweeze, stopping them just short of the summit.

Recollecting on the past, Frenchy and Sweeze came prepared. Their bee friend was given steroids to make sure that it would be extra powerful, and Frenchy and Sweeze made a visit to the ghost of their friend Chingis to retrieve a special tool to speed up their movement in hopes to evade the legendary Haku. Frenchy and Sweeze traveled through and scouted out the lands of World France and even spent time in The Prison. While Frenchy was recklessly racing into the region, Sweeze hung back, looking out for the Giant Hawku, and notable guardian of the land, Tim. About 30 minutes into the run, Sweeze spotted the Giant Hawku sleeping in the distance, clearing the way for our heroes to reach the peak.

Not more than an hour later, our heroes ventured into the lands Terra Nova and finally scaled the peak of the mountain.

While building shelter for the night, malnourishment struck Frenchy, knocking them down once and for all. In their final moments of life, Frenchy pulled Sweeze close and whispered their final words:

Major Update 7/7/2020

On a dark and stormy Sunday night, a blossoming Lily emerged from the shadows. Accompanying came two more who danced in the breeze. Slowly, a boot proudly labeled "TIM" on the bottom began to dance in the pavement surrounding the lilies. He danced his dance in the rain all night while all the lilies could do was dance along in the breeze. As the night dragged on, Tim stomped the first Lily while the wind grew stronger. The second Lily was resilient in its efforts, repelling the flames of a Phoenix while dancing freely. The third Lily may have been the weakest as it fell over in the wind and died. “Are you ready?”
The three children huddled together, tense for the upcoming trials. The pitch-black of midnight seemed to weigh down on them; soon they would take a momentous trial—one, unbeknownst to the kids, with huge implications.
“Puppets prepped?”, asked Steven, the support of the team. His nimble feet were among the fastest in the world, carrying him exactly where his endorsements were needed.
“I’m almost there, just finishing up my logging”, replied Sweeze, the leader of the three. Dextrous hands and firm dedication made her perfect for the intensive work of pointing.
“I’m not done! I’ve not even gotten 200 yet!”
Steven and Sweeze shared a look. Frenchy… Frenchy was the slowest of the three. No particular strong points, though his large stature did scare off their most dangerous enemies. And as usual, he wasn’t even ready.
Taking no heed of their sluggish compatriot, Sweeze and Steven woke up their last partner, the nigh-omnisicent Buzzy Bee. Their sharpened insight had guided the three through many a tag run, unyielding even after the Drewish Cataclysm. Though Durnil’s otherworldly invasion had ceased, its psionic aftershocks still wracked the land, making the team’s job harder than ever. However, it came not without its upsides. The powerful magic left in the desiccated remains of the Drewish brought instability and opportunity alike. And it was this opportunity which our young heroes sought to exploit.

“Do you think we can hit the record?” Steven’s voice was unsteady, though his excitement was apparent. Their goal tonight was ambitious: to break the record set by their forefathers.
“Switz, Waste, and Jorge Bergoglio’s Missionary were no pushovers. It won’t be easy.” Sweeze knew firsthand; she had grown up in the shadow of her mother, Switz, whose pointing skills held many a record. “But I know we can do it. We’ve trained for so long. And if we don’t hit 200, you know what’ll happen.”

Syberis, a powerful archmage, had delivered an ultimatum for the group. Two hundred regions were to be captured, else he deprive Lily from its sustenance, ripping its clout straight from their hands. Two hundred fifteen, and the reward was untold riches abound.
“Wait up!”, exclaimed Frenchy, finally reaching the group, with what looked to be a still inadequate roster of puppets.

The three set out, determined as ever. They had a 150 minute timeframe to hit as many regions as possible. The only thing standing between the team and their tag record? Defenders. The sadistic, highly dangerous creatures who sought only the suffering and misery of the raiders. The taggers had already fallen prey to them once before, a miserable night where what should have been a glorious 200 tag run was ripped to shreds. Hopefully history would not repeat itself.
All seemed well as the crew jumped into action. Region after region, point after point, trigger after trigger; they’d done this a million times before. Like fish taking to water, Sweeze, Steven, and Frenchy lithely navigated the treacherous canyons of major update. They were well on their way to the record. Until they caught the first signs.
“Shit, shit, shit!”
Sweeze, ears keen, heard something in the distance. A blip among a hundred others. Though this one… it came from Libcord. The base of their dreaded arch-nemeses. Usually a ping from the terrible fortress harkened an onslaught of the terrifying beasts called chasers. And so they came.

The first was Hawku, a dreadful predatory bird whose terrifying speed was unmatched among the chasers. Sleepless, tireless, and relentless in its hunt, the Hawku was universally feared, and universally present. Thankfully, though, defenders had no power without partners. One or two could be handled by the elite speed of Lily.
In the heat of the update, a single chaser could be dealt with, but they never came alone. The team braced themselves, preparing for the worst… but it never came. After Sweeze double-checked, she found it was a false alarm; the ping was directed to Sweeze only, never making it into the hands of the other defenders. The three let out sighs of relief as they continued on their journey. Soon, however, a second defender came.
This time it was the Matthew. A threat that could barely be called a threat. Though fledgling raiders might fall prey to it, the experienced would soon find the Matthew to be leaden-footed, whose only menace was its tongue, vile in speech but enchanting in music. The Matthew, knowing it couldn’t keep up with the team, shifted to auditory means, playing saxophone and taunting the three.
“You’ll never hit two hundred. Just give up.”, the beast spat, “Even if you hit two hundred, you won’t even be relevant! Just go to sleep. You’ll accomplish just as much.”
Sweeze, Steven, and Frenchy had heard this a hundred times before. His japing was just that: substanceless in the end. Nothing would stop them from reaching their goal.

A few regions in, however, they encountered another roadblock.
“What’s happening?” Steven called another trigger. “Again! We’re all making it in, but we’re missing so much.”
“I don’t know!” Sweeze floundered.
“You’re not ROing” offered Frenchy.

“My macros! Why aren’t they working?” Sweeze tinkered while the crew plowed on. But by then, Sweeze’s malfunctions had cost almost a dozen hits.
“I finally fixed them.” And they were back in business.
The trio breezed closer and closer to the illustrious, ethereal two hundred. By the forty-five minute mark they’d hit a hundred regions. Confidence unmatched, and speed unceasing, their pace delivered them cruising straight into the weeds of major update.

“I can finally breathe” were Sweeze’s first words, going into a break. Region after region, the sheer inertia they held was unspeakably large, quite literally. No time to talk, only to tag. They communicated almost telepathically, moving as a cohesive whole. Confusion and hesitation were nonexistent.

One hundred fifty,

one hundred sixty,

one hundred seventy.

“We’re almost at tag record!”
As they closed in, the unthinkable happened. So enticingly near, and then the Tim came. The leaders of all the defenders, and among the most fearsome. Its influence almost guaranteed that many, many chasers were to come.
“Don’t move”, whispered Steven. Tims, as with all defenders, were attracted to motion.
The raiders froze, hoping that the chaser’s acute senses, unimpaired even by the darkness of midnight, wouldn’t notice them.
Fortunately, the Tim they encountered that night was particularly imperceptive, and uncharacteristically alone. Lady luck seemed to smile down upon the raiders as the Tim retreated back to its Overwatch den.
The raiders jumped back on track; their stealth had cost them a good bit of time.

And with 36 minutes left, they hit 186—a new tag record.

Almost simultaneously, Frenchy collapsed from exhaustion. His inadequate preparation left him unable to continue, during the final, critical, stretch. With merely 30 minutes left Lily had to hit 14 regions lest Syberis smite them, and 29 for the prize. Sweeze and Steven prepared to speed. The last 30 minutes were among the most difficult, full of gaps uncrossable and dangers unknowable. But they had to continue, for the fate of Lily rested upon their shoulders.
“Endorse quickly!”
“Go, go, go!”
“C’mon, update.”
“Update already!”
And one hundred thirty minutes into the update, they did it. Two hundred regions tagged, an unprecedented single-team feat. They had done it, they’d saved their home. But their job was not done.
The duo continued, hitting region after region, striving for the prize that would come with 215. Buzzy steadily counted higher and higher. Breaths quickening, adrenaline pumping. So close to glory, so close to recognition. Without a hitch, they hit and surpassed the seemingly unconquerable goal.
The air seemed to relax; it was all just numbers from there. No consequences, just fun. Sweeze went to recount their hits for insurance while Steven lounged, satisfied at their work.

“Oh shit!” Sweeze swiveled around.
“What’s up?”
“We’re at 204. I logged more hits than we actually got!”

Steven scrambled back into position. Twelve minutes remained, just twelve fateful minutes to hit eleven. And so, they got back to work, but it seemed all hope was lost. As the update grinded to a halt, Buzzy said 224; they’d hit 9 more regions in that time. So tantalizingly close. Steven choked on his words, and Sweeze was burdened by the weight of guilt. What if she’d had her macros in line? What if she’d posted point just a bit faster?
Despondently, she checked her hitlist again.
“Wait… I don’t have all my nations dossed!”
Their hope was rekindled. With a proper hitlist, they might be at 215, or even surpass it! Steven anxiously paced as he waited for Sweeze to get a hitcount.
“We did it! We got even more than I could ever imagine.”
“How many did we hit?”

I suppose it's somewhat apples-oranges to compare the previous two total tag records to this one, but two particular numbers stand out regardles:

Umbra (TBH): 255 hits, 22 people, 60 minutes -> 4.25 hits per minute, 11.6 hits per person, 0.19 hits per person per minute
Supernova (Lily+SPSF): 407 hits, 15 people, 90 minutes -> 4.52 hits per minute, 27.1 hits per person, 0.30 hits per person per minute
