All of the telegrams that I've received so far are requests to join the sender's region, and I know why the sender sent it: Because the sender thinks that his/her country will somehow be better off just by having more countries in the same region. They don't pay attention to the country's ideals or anything else when they send a telegram. They probably don't even bother to write it; they just copy and paste. I'd like for there to be a region whose members join the studio because they agree (ideal-wise) with the other members, not because they'd feel safest being in that particular group. Or at least, a region of countries that are as fed up about this as my country is and only sends invites to other countries who have previously showed signs of being fed up about this.

Firstly, welcome to NS. Hope you have a nice stay and find meaning to whatever activity here you choose to partake in. We got RP, General (discussions, such as politics), and Gameplay stuff to do.

Second. This is an IC RP forum. It's not for... whatever criticism you're making. I'll throw up a report to have this moved to the appropriate forum (if there is one), so feel free to respond if you're looking for a region or you want to make this a thread in Technical.

Thirdly, the messages you're getting are regional recruiting officers spamming new nations with automatic recruitment TGs - they don't even see who gets them I think let alone personally knowing who gets them. Their goals are to bring as many people in as they can, so your gonna get TGs out the wazoo from these recruiters trying to hook you into at least visiting their region. If you want them to stop, there's a TG setting in your "Settings" tab to block these types of TGs; you can alternatively find a new region where these recruiter activities aren't allowed or simply delete them if they don't look like they're personally catered to you. No one can tell you you have to be part of one region or not - it's all up to you to choose where you want to reside, who you'll speak to, or what you choose to do on NS. If you want to join an RP region, go for it; a region focusing on their government and community, knock yourself out; a region that aligns to a political ideology (nazis, commies, libertarians, conservatives, liberals, whatever), have at it. It'll take time, but if you want to find a region that suits your tastes, I suggest visiting the Gameplay forum to either find a region recruitment thread that fancies your tastes, or, create a new thread listing your preferences for interested regions/players to post in. You can also signal in your next reply here if you want this to be your thread looking for a region - im sure mods will tow it to Gameplay for you.

Recruiters can find that out with the reports for the mass-telegrams they send. They can see a list of which nations received their telegram, which nations did not receive the telegram, and which nations were successfully recruited by the telegram. If they send a message to enough people, they also receive a list of people actually looked at the telegram.

This is true actually. If a nation has more nations, it will likely have more nations actively participating and helping the region. Also, it is also more likely that there are more World Assembly members (the UN of Nationstates) who can give endorsements (the more endorsements you have, the more influence you have. Influence lets you do more when appointed as a regional officer by the Delegate, such as kick/ban people.) and strengthen the Delegates World Assembly vote (The World Assembly starts with one vote, and gains one more for every endorsement they have.)

Most regions cannot do this. Take The Pacific for example. They have around 8,700 nations. If every nation had to follow a certain ideal, The Pacific would have way less people (although they can't enforce this regardless, so this is probably a bad example.)

The first part: These are very rare. However, they do exist. I can't think of any specifically for Democracies off the top of my head though, unless they are very, very, very small.
The second part: Never heard of anybody else think this. However, if you did this, you would have to manually recruit. This would cost you a lot of time, and your region will have much, much more trouble growing, especially since there is no reason for the unnecessary trouble.

Back when I did some recruiting by TG, I did it manually -- which was the only method officially allowed in those days, anyway -- and tried to target only nations that looked as though they'd feel at home in the region.
Nowadays, with the scripts and stamps pumping out other people's recruiting attempts at such a high rate, I tend just to keep an eye on this forum and see whether anybody who might like my home region posts here about looking for a new location.

So, what kind of region -- in terms of ideals, and so on -- are you looking for?

If you don't feel that my own home region is worth a try, or simply follow your nation's geographical theme and take it to Texas, then you could ask for advice in the thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=365030 .
