The Holy Blue Federation of Ivenian Republics Presents
The Informal Constitutional Draft Symposium
Considering the house of representatives isn't in session yet, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and initiate an informal meeting for those interested in or influenced by the upcoming talks surrounding the proposed amending of the constitution. This first post will remain here to centrally display the literature and possible drafts going into it. I will preside over the meeting until our president, Donkeygong, or a representative in his name, takes over the role (whereupon I resign myself to a solely bookkeeping role). A few ground rules first.
All comments, edits, alterations and ideas are welcomed and will be treated with due respect. We merely ask to adhere to the general rules of NationStates etiquette.
Please use your topmost posts to add important information, and reply to continue the discussion. This prioritizes to the data collection.
Please understand that, no matter how stupid, all ideas and drafts are weighted equally and will remain here as long as necessary.
A Notice Board
Some Literature (actually worth the read)
- The Benefits Of Committees, an essay on whether or not committees are helpful in the first place. The answer is yes.
- The North Pacific Constitution, a lecture on an incredible constitution way back in the old days of NationStates. Definitely something we ought to take inspiration from.
- The East Pacific Articles of Confederation, a more complete version of the ones used by their sister regions.
- The Treaty on European Union, the 'constitution' of the European Union, one of the few organisations that follow the same model of international governance we're pursuing today.
Some Scraps of Paper with Scribbles on Them
- Proposed Amendments, the list of proposed amendments drafted by Donkeygong and Fing.
- A Transformed Constitution, an edit (done by myself) of our current constitution, transforming it into a more formal style of writing. It contains both the constitution as it currently stands, and the anti-discrimination law.
Further Debate Needed
- Outline of the document(s), and necessary titles
- Differentiating between a charter, a constitution and a legal code
- Modeled system (i.e. EU, USA, UN, etc.)
Edits 1 & 2: Grammar and spelling cleanup.
