Announcing the Treaty of Sericum

between the Republic of Europeia and the New Pacific Order

On July 30th, President Writinglegend submitted the Treaty of Sericum between Europeia and the New Pacific Order to the Senate. As of August 10th, the treaty was ratified unanimously. The treaty reflects the success of a year-long period of bilateral engagements between Europeia and The Pacific, following the promulgation of our Pact of Non-Aggression in May of last year. The historical significance of this treaty cannot be understated, as it was only four years ago that Europeia declared war against the New Pacific Order.

Following reforms in The Pacific, Europeia withdrew from the war effort, and in the intervening years, much work has been undertaken both publicly and privately to foster relations between our regions. Through military, cultural, and social undertakings, Europeia and The Pacific have developed a strong sense of mutual trust, respect, and understanding. Europeia is proud to call the New Pacific Order our ally, and we look forward to continued cooperation between our regions.

LDF-ERN JOINT REPORT: Realm of the Whispering Winds Free from Raider Control

As of minor update today, Realm of the Whispering Winds has been turned to defender control with plans to reinstate native rule once the invaders are cleared out of the region. The final operation included over 20 updaters jumping into the region, with many further in attendance who were already deployed and had been since initial efforts. Today's logistics for the final jump such as triggering and coordination were spearheaded by the LDF and ERN with assistance from the South Pacific Special Forces.

Despite unsuccessful initial siege efforts, many organizations contributed immense efforts to attempting to dislodge raiders and otherwise building an influence beachhead within the region to deter griefing. Across the broader operation, the LDF and ERN both had 24 unique updaters each in attendance, many of which kept their nations in the region throughout the full occupation. Further political efforts and defender-Independent cooperation ensued the swift approval and passage of Liberate Realm of the Whispering Winds at the natives' behest, further diminishing the risk of irreversible harm.

With the conclusion of the raider operation and the return of authority to defender, Independent, and native forces, we look forward to a quick return of native residents and restoration of the region after the attack. Due to their valiant efforts, we have published a full list of soldiers from both of our militaries who contributed to this siege:

We are proud to announce the passage of the Pact of Orohena, a non-aggression pact between Europeia and the South Pacific. Though we have had notable disagreements in the past, officials from both regions have made a concerted effort to dialogue and collaborate over the past few months, culminating in the passage of this agreement. Knowing what we have overcome to get to this point makes this moment all the more meaningful for everyone involved.

We are committed to developing a stronger bilateral relationship through mutual recognition and non-agression, intelligence sharing, and cultural pursuits.

Given this, we are optimistic about the future relationship between the South Pacific and Europeia, rooted in a renewed friendship, charting a better course for us both.

Pact of Non-Aggression between

The Coalition of the South Pacific

and

The Republic of Europeia​

WHEREAS The Republic of Europeia and its government, hereinafter referred to as “Europeia”, and the Coalition of the South Pacific and its government, hereinafter referred to as “the South Pacific”, have shared ideals of democracy, sovereignty, and liberty;

WHEREAS Europeia and the South Pacific wish to build a relationship where there was once animosity;

NOW, THEREFORE, Europeia and the South Pacific agree to the following:

1. Mutual Recognition and Sovereignty

a. The Signatories to this treaty recognize the government of the other Signatory as legitimate based upon its constituting legal instruments and laws and will not extend that recognition to any government that comes to power unlawfully.

b. The Signatories shall maintain in-game (i.e. on the NationStates site) and off-site embassies with one another, consistent with facilities provided to other treatied allies, and strive to maintain diplomatic representatives in each other’s regions. If an illegitimate delegate of a signatory region, being someone who lacks legal recognition by the signatory government, closes the in-game embassy of the other Signatory, the embassy shall be restored immediately following the restoration of the legitimate delegate.

c. Neither Signatory may cede control of their region to another entity to the extent that they can no longer meet the obligations of this agreement.

2. Non-Aggression

a. Neither the South Pacific nor Europeia will engage in military hostilities against the other, or against one another's protectorates which have been established by regional law and communicated to the other signatory. Participation by the South Pacific and Europeia on opposite sides of a military engagement that does not constitute an attack on either region or a region's protectorate shall not be considered "military hostilities against the other" for this purpose.

b. Neither Signatory will engage in espionage against the other. For this purpose, "espionage" is the act of engaging a person to act under false pretenses in a Signatory region without the permission of that region's legitimate government.

c. The Signatories each shall provide information to the other if such information is pertinent to the other region's security or well-being, or otherwise upon the other's reasonable request, unless the party in possession of such information reasonably believes that providing that information might violate applicable laws or contravene the terms of service for NationStates or a regional communications platform, or when revealing that information would unduly compromise that party's source(s) of information. Both signatories shall endeavor to reveal as much as possible in such situations, but not more than they can under laws, terms of service, or the need to protect sources.

3. Cultural Undertakings

a. Each signatory will endeavour, where appropriate and possible, to engage in social and cultural activities with the other signatory. This can include, but is not limited to, festivals, competitions, and educational endeavors.

4. General Provisions

a. This Treaty will come into force on the date of ratification by both Europeia and the South Pacific as dictated by their respective governing procedures.

b. Either Signatory reserves the right to exit this Treaty. The exiting Signatory must privately notify the other’s respective head of government 72 hours prior to taking public action toward a repeal, providing their reasoning for termination.

c. This Treaty may be amended by mutual agreement of both Signatories so long as proposed amendments are ratified by both Signatories in accordance with their respective laws and norms. Both Signatories shall keep the other informed of an amendment’s ratification status.

d. Upon ratification, this treaty shall be the sole bilateral treaty between the South Pacific and Europeia, superseding any prior written documents describing a relationship between the regions.

Writinglegend on Track for a Trio of Terms
The Europeian citizenry places its faith in Writinglegend for president once again

Over a twenty-four-hour voting period that began on Friday, September 2, fifty Europeian citizens congregated in the Oval Room to choose their next president. They were faced with the choice of reelecting incumbent President Writinglegend to his third consecutive term in the Goldenblock or reopening elections in the hopes that a challenger would throw their hat into the ring. As expected, Writinglegend was comfortably voted back into office alongside Vice President Sarah, although 14.0% of the vote did go towards reopening elections. This was likely an expression of discontent about the lack of competition, as very little (if any) criticism of the Writinglegend campaign was publicly voiced.

Writinglegend revealed his intention to run for a tenth presidential term on the E-News Network's Ministry of Pod Election Special 1, saying "I don't think our work is finished. I still personally have a lot of goals from my last platform that I wasn't able to achieve for time reasons this past seventy-day cycle [...] I think we can do a lot of building off of the Modern Gameplay Compact, making that a staple, and I think there's a lot of directions our foreign policy can be taken." He and Sarah released a comprehensive platform, Ultralight Beam, promising a proactive, outwards-facing communications strategy; a focus on solidifying friendships within Europeia's treaty network as well as seeking new cultural partners; replacing the Navy's reserve system with a militia system that will be better suited to defensive operations; and a new arm of the Welcoming Committee on Discord.

While Europeians strongly approve of the Writinglegend administration's work - the executive achieved an exceptional 100% satisfaction rating in the latest midterm poll - citizens are also conscious of the apparent lack of interest in the presidency from those without previous experience in the Goldenblock. In his platform, Writinglegend expressed a desire "to crumble the proverbial walls around the presidency to give everyone a glimpse into what life is like" through a weekly podcast discussing different aspects and strategies of executive leadership. His keenness to make the presidency more accessible was also reflected in his campaign's emphasis on providing opportunities for citizens to learn about foreign affairs.

Despite the election ultimately being uncontested, it could not be described as uneventful. With three days to go before polls were due to open, Comfed released a joke platform and stood for the presidency listing himself as his own running mate. While joke campaigns have in the past caused controversy, this one drew particular attention as some commenters argued that replacing the option to reopen elections with a non-serious candidate was unreasonable. Furthermore, it prompted Vice Chancellor Istillian (who was responsible for administering the election) to file for an Advisory Opinion from the High Court regarding the legality of standing as both president and vice president; the opinion has yet to be delivered. Comfed withdrew his candidacy before the vote, wishing not to remove the choice of reopening elections.

Following the conclusion of the election, Writinglegend nominated a new field of ministers to the Senate for confirmation. His nominees, listed below, are all returning to serve from the outgoing cabinet except Sanjurika and Le Libertie, although Pland Adanna was previously leading World Assembly affairs, Sopo was leading foreign affairs, and Lime was leading radio.

As somebody who remembers the koala from my stint in TNP during the summer of 2017 may I just say that this is an extraordinarily poggers revelation

Hobbits, as we all know, were not made for adventure, they are creatures of comfort and serenity. They are very good at talking and drinking tea in their comfortable little homes in the hills, not at mingling in wars and intrigues. However, every now and then comes a time in some Hobbits' life, where they feel the urge to go out into the world to experience that sense of adventure only heard of in legends and stories the older hobbits share when they are sitting in their armchairs and smoking their pipes. One of these stories, a most cautionary tale, tells of the adventures of Warzone Asia, a formerly well-respected Hobbit. WZA had lived a perfectly stable life until they decided they would try and get themselves involved in an adventure. Sadly, on their travels, they ran into a most foul group of people. Wearing black hoods to hide their facades, the Brotherhood of Malice talked the Hobbit into entering an alliance with them. The Hobbit agreed to that alliance gladly and enthusiastically embraced their new allies, willfully ignoring the wretched and horrid things the Brotherhood stood for.
However, there were Elves and Dwarfs, from the lands of the West Pacific (led by the noble Vauron),Europeia, the Land of Kings and Emperors and the Sasquatch Republic fighting for all that is right and good, who could not let this unholy alliance wreck havoc upon middle earth. They entered an alliance to protect the realms from the destruction the Brotherhood brought wherever it set foot. On the 23rd day of the 10th month of the year 2000 and 22 they emptied out the land the Hobbit hat occupied, to free it from the curse brought upon it.
Let this be a warning tale to anyone who wishes to collaborate with the Brotherhood of Malice. You shall be struck down like Warzone Asia was. I´ve got my eye on you.. And now you´re mine. The Eye of Vauron sees all.
