We've already outlasted the Third Reich by some margin.
Probably a closer comparison would the the USSR/Russia, especially since that's what Unlimited based his PRP ideas on. New flag, new faces, old tactics. Happily pissing off the world, invading and annexing territories, interfering with your elections and nobody can really do anything about it.

Finland would disagree with that notion.

But in this conflict, Myrth, the NPO has no chance, because we're all Finland. All of us. We're screaming in an incomprehensible language that's over-complicated for no good reason and laying winter traps for the Pacifican tanks. Your officers are meeting with a Great Purge for their failures. We're all Finland, Myrth. We're all Finland.

Doesn't really make much sense, but ok. Those of us who've been around a while have heard all this before. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

You know what's absolutely disgusting? The suggestion that the NPO can just sit back and say "oh, well your attempts to harm us will be pointless" when they themselves have gone to great lengths to harm basically every other major region in the game, all while making some claim to moral superiority. Guess what - we've gotten sick of this. I don't care if it takes four or five years to kill off the NPO, or at least disfigure it so much that it can't wage war on the regions it should be treating with equity. Yes, your region is one of the most secure out there, second only to a handful of foundered regions whose founders aren't going to leave for the next decade or more. To those of you who speak from your ivory tower and boast of your invincibility, all while rubbing your gross mistreatment and virtual destruction of other communities in their faces, I hope the rest of us get the chance to prove you wrong.

I don't know why they would assume it would quell the opposition in the first place.

The Pacific's people deserve good government and its allies deserve a reliable partner.
They have a very long journey ahead of them.
While it is certainly possible that it is only window dressing, choosing Elegarth to serve their Foreign Affairs Ministry is a hopeful first step.
Elegarth is one of the few people that could actually move The Pacific in the right direction. He has the skill, knowledge, history and temperament needed.
The West Pacific, along with all of NationStates, will be watching.
Best of luck, Elegarth.

Elegarth will be subordinate to Xoriet, who will be the Senator responsible for foreign affairs and who's been saying stuff like this:

The Praetorian Sentinel Ocelot of Xoriet

Don't forget the part about installing a foreign-raised government that does puppet things for a puppet feeder. Gameplay cares about itself, not about The Pacific. I'll wager some of the ringleaders of this already volunteered to serve as the new leaders of the region after they overthrow us.

None of them care about The Pacific's well-being at all. They care about their wishes and desires, about their own interests. They want our residents' votes for their desires. They want our delegacy to promote their interests. They want long-term members gone because those members had the gall to be in the region and support our leadership. They have repeatedly attempted to remove and slander members of our leadership for not bowing to their whims long before this. They accuse us of the same in other regions, but they aren't better in any way.

The Pacific isn't going to fall to a mob of opportunists, raiders, and loudmouthed demagogues.

Image

This isn't "a hopeful first step." This is Elegarth being used by the NPO to try to get people to think this is "a hopeful first step," and to eventually let the NPO back into everyone's good graces so history can repeat itself yet again, as it has every single time they've played these games of musical chairs.

Seriously, at some point we've got to stop falling for this. No positive change is happening in the Pacific. This is the exact same thing they always do.

I did say they have a very long way to go and Xoriet's statement shows more of the same from The Pacific.
The West Pacific certainly won't be reopening our embassy with them anytime soon, but I would also not underestimate Elegarth's abilities or desire for real change.
Time will tell.

To be fair, this is true. I faced a lot of opposition. I may have more luck this time? I'll see. I'll let you know. In my PERSONAL opinion, the NPO has needed real change for a while. Perhaps LOD is the man to do it.

Regardless of our personal beliefs, all of us can recognize the unifying power of love, kindness and respect. The holidays bring these values to the fore and allow us a special opportunity to put them into practice.

Therefore, in the spirit of The Christmas Truce of 1914, The West Pacific would like to invite all the nations of NationStates to participate in our Secret Santa and a little holiday celebration.

We also call on all regions to refrain from acrimony until after Christmas. In this season, let’s put our differences and conflicts, however justified, aside and offer each other kind words and thoughtful actions.

To join our celebration, go to https://discord.gg/KKRXKb and sign up.

Your gift can be anything that you can imagine, but the most common gifts are flags or banners, Forum and/or Discord avatars, Factbook templates or entries for an existing factbook, a new national anthem or just pictures or music you think they might like.

On Thursday, December 13th we will close the sign-ups and we’ll let everyone know (privately) who their gift will be for.
You can give them your gift whenever you wish before Christmas.

While at the site, you are welcome to participate in our other fun holiday games and postings. :)

The West Pacific, in this season of goodwill, extends its wishes for peace and friendship to all of you.
