Everyone knows that was not an actual coup attempt. Generally speaking, you don't overtly tart and announce a real coup on the regional forum.

But excellent detective work. It never ceases to amaze me how much time some foreigners spend trying to demonize me and/or Osiris, when they should have other things to do. I'm sorry the South Pacific and your new Cabinet office are so boring.

A Press Release from the desk of GRO
Image

On Osiris' 5th Anniversary
October 19, 2016

Happy Anniversary to Osiris and Balder!

Speaking from experience, I know it is easy to create regions but difficult to turn them into tight-knit communities that would stay together. To accomplish this is a great achievement and I congratulate all those involved in community building and regional development. In particular, I am impressed by how both regions have developed very unique identities that sets them apart from each other and the other game-created regions. The game is made better and more interesting as a result.

Although both regions had experienced some growing pains in the early years, you have emerged stronger and matured into the mainstays of NS you are today. Many players have passed through your doors and had wonderful memories of their time in your regions. Looking forward, I wish you greater success and more good years together.

Has it been five years? How time flies. Congratulations.

From Balder's first World Factbook Entry: "Being reborn could mean one of two different things for any person; it could be a chance to reunite with one's past or a chance to start anew..." "This is a time for all of our dreams for this region to come together and help shape a beautiful region."

It was an interesting time to play and a great honour. Cheers to both sinkers.

Read: The people and community that are comfortable living without the right to protest their government or get a say in their leader.

This just demonstrates how little you actually know about the community and government of Osiris. The Heir Apparent, who will eventually succeed to the office of Pharaoh, must first be confirmed by the Council of Scribes, our all-citizen legislature, as well as the Council of Guardians. Neo Kervoskia, who will be the next Pharaoh when I eventually abdicate, was unanimously confirmed by citizens of Osiris.

Well see, it might not have been unanimous if you hadn't gotten rid of everyone who dared challenge your authority. It's very nice to suggest that you have laws mandating how you respect the will of the community (which you could easily circumvent by technicality), but time and time again you've proven that when faced with a law or outcome you don't like, you have no hesitation about putting legality and the community aside to accomplish what you want.
Anyone in Osiris is free to raise issues regarding the government. What seems to bother you is that they aren't, because they like their government. I suppose, in your view, regional communities should be contentious and constantly at odds with each other, so it will be easier for people like you to gain undeserved power based on factional politicking.

Seems everyone who has a desire to elect their next leader has found success (or not, sometimes) elsewhere. Maybe there'd be value in going back if everyone who you left in the dust came too. Maybe then we'd see if you really respect the will of a community that won't stand for their leaders being chosen for them. But I suppose its irrelevant since at this point they'd be outnumbered by your own people.
Cormactopia II wrote:Osiris had spent months in inactivity, which was interrupted only by the toxic internal conflict that resulted from the April election for Pharaoh.

And I wonder who decided to start such vitriol and wage a smear campaign against an electoral opponent? It's so laughably fitting for this year as we enter the era of post-truth politics.

The Almighty Jesus Whale, whom your faction sought to install as Pharaoh, had accumulated only 239 forum posts over the course of two years, most of which consisted of "Aye," "Nay," or "Abstain."

And yet still, somehow, you, such a dedicated and active person, managed to lose an election against him and then have him re-confirmed with a 90% margin. And after you flagrantly betrayed your own region, several of your supporters recanted their support for you. You wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as you did without help from Tim (who has already expressed his regret) and the lies you built your campaign around.
This picture you paint of a "thriving democracy" is simply a lie. The republic you claim to love so much, but in which you never actually participated in any meaningful way, failed Osiris in every conceivable way, by every conceivable metric, and was the second republican government to do so. Republicanism is dead in Osiris. No one misses it, because people like having a cooperative and active community and a functional government. It's unfortunate that you prefer dysfunction as the lazy path to gaining power, rather than advancing through merit and cooperation with your regionmates. Hopefully those who made actual contributions to Osiris during the second republican era will feel otherwise and will accept our invitation to be part of our much stronger, more active, and more cooperative community and government. It doesn't matter that it isn't a cookie cutter republic. It matters that it works.

This is such a joke of an argument. First off, this 'cooperative' community you speak of is only that way because you banned anyone who might ever possibly disagree with your or challenge the idea that the person in charge knows better than them. Congratulations on your activity, the many quislings of Osiris can have as much fun as they want. I'm sure you care about them so much that you'll centralize all power a little more dispassionately the next time they do something you don't like. It's not that no one misses Osiran democracy, it's that no one who misses it has bothered to go back to Cormactopia.

Merit and cooperation with your regionmates mean nothing when you're always ready to abandon, exile and disgrace them for lifting a finger against the bullshit you propagate.

And you're really one to be attacking my track record when you seized power coming fresh off an actual ban from the region. At least I don't carry out character assassination for political capital.

Happy five years to Osiris. It's a shame to see region in the hands of people who care so little for its community when they don't want to. I'll be done with this thread now so you don't have to deal with me until more bullshit comes up.

5 Years!!
I cannot believe so much time has passed. Happy Birthday to Osiris and Balder. How you have grown!
I am proud to have been a small part of the beginnings and happy to see that Osiris has a thriving community and evolved into a very distinct and unique region.
I must admit to a certain amount of relief back then when the Delegate seat was transitioned to the elected Pharaoh Zaolat.

Happy Birthday

Sure, I'll absolutely grant you that it wasn't a real attempt. Let's call it "foreshadowing" — a mere 13 months later, you did coup, which was a mere 3 months after you were pardoned. Makes one wonder what your true feelings were in March'15 and what would have happened if you'd had a co-conspirator like Tim at your side then.

Oh, before I forget, you also supported the TSP coup attempt a month after that statement. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One unpleasant twenty four hour period later, and I've gotten rid of the Drumpfinator completely. Caused no end of trouble.

As a Deputy Minister in balder I'd just like to emphasize to Osirans lurking round these parts: there's a festival going on with our two regions. If you've created an account, simply find this thread and put in your registration. After that, cross the Mediterranean, head up through the Danube. One trek through the Rhinelad and one leaky boat from Calais to Jutland later, and you've more or less found the location of the festival, give or take a few hundred kilometres. Check in with the bearded men wearing wizard hats, brewing potions. They should guide you to the right location.

Statement from the Osiris Fraternal Order

On Military Operations Against Fascist, Nazi, and Collaborating Regions

Osiris was pleased to participate in the recent conference to organize the Coalition Against the Ideology of Nazism (CAIN), to ratify the treaty that resulted from the conference, and to join the successful effort to invade The NSIA, a Nazi region that dates back to the early days of NationStates. The central premise of CAIN is that opposition to Nazism in NationStates is an extraordinary endeavor that transcends ordinary ideological differences and conflicts between various regions and organizations. CAIN's efforts thus far have seen raider, imperialist, independent, neutral, defender, anti-fascist, and otherwise aligned regions working side by side for a common purpose: to combat Nazism in NationStates and to drive Nazis and their collaborators back into the dark corners from whence they came, to reduce the number of regions that provide them safe haven, and to deprive them of opportunities to disrupt other regions and spread their insidious message.

While Osiris remains a raider region, and would not ordinarily participate in defensive operations, we are committed to the goal of combating fascism, Nazism, and regions that collaborate with fascists and Nazis. This extraordinary goal is important enough to warrant setting aside ordinary ideological tenets and cooperating with regions and organizations we otherwise would not in pursuit of this goal.

We are therefore pleased to announce that, effective immediately, the Sekhmet Legion is permitted to participate in defensive military operations against invasions by fascist and Nazi regions and their collaborators. The Legion will be permitted to participate in defensive operations against Nazi regions and Nazi collaborators as designated by CAIN without prior authorization from the Pharaoh. The Legion will also be permitted to participate in defensive operations against such regions, even if they are not designated as such by CAIN, with prior authorization from the Pharaoh. Moreover, the Legion will be permitted to work alongside any region or organization on either offensive or defensive operations against fascists, Nazis, and their collaborators, even if restrictions exist that would ordinarily prevent such cooperation.

Osiris looks forward to frequently working with CAIN and with other anti-fascist and anti-Nazi forces in the future. We encourage other raider regions to take similar steps to set aside ordinary ideological differences in pursuit of anti-fascist and anti-Nazi military cooperation.
