TWP's Autism Awareness Week

By initiative of many associations dedicated to the study of Autism, April is National Autism Awareness Week in the US (and slowly, on other countries). Hence, The West Pacific has decided to dedicate at least one week of the whole month to Autism Awareness!

We would of course like other regions to join us, by painting their WFE's Blue, flying Autism Awareness Flag and upvoting and shating our dedicated Dispatch for Autism Awareness:

By all means, use this thread to discuss Autism, its realities, the challenges society presents to people with ASD, your personal experience if you wish etc!

This is done out of an idea to achieve something good. We are a huge community of players from all ages, and we could all do with learning a little bit more, clearing out myths and being more aware.

We hope to see you stop by the dispatch at least!

Blue is a nice color.

I, like 502nd Ghost Division up there, have Asperger's. I never thought it negatively affected my life that much; in fact, for a few years, I totally forgot I even had it. I'm kinda awkward socially, and I'm noticeably different from a lot of other people, but whatever. I still function properly; I'm content.

Although, recently, my parents told my 8-year-old little brother about it. Now, for some reason, he thinks every little quirk I have is because of my autism - and that I'm less reliable because of it. Sometimes he dismisses something I tell him entirely, just because I have autism. It's like he personifies me as Mrs. Autistic.

I excuse it, because he's only eight, and I myself was an ignorant, racist asshole at that age. But it still kinda hurts, especially because I know some adults would think that, too.

I wish I could put in words the struggle and pain life has been of always being alone, even when you're not, but I've never been the best with words. Life has been a downward slide since about middle school, and as I enter my thirties, you really come to understand what forever is.

I have a close friend with Asperger Syndrome, doesn't affect his life much other than that he says whatever is on his mind. I'd never presume to know what it's like but I have been disgusted by the way one or two people have treated him. Warzone Europe will take part, good idea.

I am already well aware of autism, this week is so pointless!!!

In all seriousness, I have many people very near and dear to my heart who fall somewhere on the autistic spectrum. Not once would I ever dream of treating them differently (beyond respecting their quirks and boundaries, of course) because of it. It's bad enough to have your own mind working against you, I can't imagine that being compounded by other people as well.

My autistic friends and family are just friends and family to me. Don't look at an autistic person and think that every time they fuck up or do something strange it's because of it. it happens to all of us, imagine if every time you didn't fit in just right people around you muttered about some condition you have. Nobody deserves that.

This was my idea. I am so touched to see support from all walks of life. I was diagnosed with autism as a secondary diagnosis. My primary diagnosis was speech delay, but I relate more to autism. Autism impacted my life in so many ways. I am in college and wish they had more services for people like me. Thank you for supporting autism!

As I have said on Hydra's rmb several times, there isn't a shade of blue that is visible on both the normal Rift and Dark Rift themes.

I have Aspergers and I go through life without noticing it that much. Though I wish there was a cure for it because I'm treated differently and I don't have many true friends. Most consider me an idiot and that's because I don't act the same as them. But this gives me hope this week created to make people aware of people with autism.
