Cynosure Embassy

Postby The Cynosure Temple » Tue Mar 15, 2016 3:13 pm

Cynosure is a region that opened its doors in June 2015, and has since grown in leaps and bounds. It has five core aspects that make it what it is.

Image
Friendly: Cynosure is built on the principles of peace, friendship and most of all, fun. We recognise that NationStates is a game above everything else. These principles help to guide the region in all things. It also means we are welcoming to any and all who decide to grace our shores, and we follow a pacifist non-military outlook on NS at large.

Image
Roleplay: Cynosure is sci-fi themed and RRP (Regional Roleplay) centred, meaning the region focuses on roleplay between each nation’s representatives as a core cultural aspect. Our nations have a wide range of technology and can be made up of different species.

Image
The Nexus: Our nation roleplay revolves around The Nexus; an extra-dimensional region that looks like a wide, infinitely long tube about 100 km in diameter, in which about every 2 kilometres, there is an indent in the surface where gates can be opened to other worlds. Each nation is a Client found on the other side of these gates, allowing for endless possibilities.

Image
Community: We offer many other avenues to pursue outside of roleplay. With video games, anime, forum games, and more, there is something for everyone to jump into. We also have a shared Discord server where we can relax and chat with each other.

Image
Government: The region is officiated over by the Council of Brilliance, a council of seven appointed members who together hold full executive power. The Senate comprises the legislative branch of the region, into which citizens can be elected.

Government

Our Executive branch is lead by the Council of Brilliance, whom together lead the region as a collegial body, a unique aspect of the region. Each member is appointed by the existing Council to ensure a cohesive whole, and decisions are worked together through consensus approval.

Grand Master: Wuufu
Roleplay Master: Xah

Council of Brilliance Members
Councillor of Security: Wuufu
Councillor of Internal Affairs: Xah (Interim)
Councillor of Foreign Affairs: Wuufu (Interim)
Councillor of Culture: Raconuu
Councillor of Roleplay: Xah
Councillor of the Senate: Xah (Interim)
Councillor of WA Affairs: Katie

If you have any direct questions or queries about the region, please contact the Councillor of Foreign Affairs, or any other member of the Council of Brilliance.

Roleplay
The nations of Cynosure have formed together to pass a war crimes treaty, listing in detail all of the heinous acts to now be considered as criminal acts. The treaty failed to mention punishment for the crimes, however. In addition, something happened in Qora, however, reporters have failed to return with news. We suspect it is a war.

Internal Affairs
New Councillor for Culture! ProfessorHenn has been appointed as the Culture Councillor after supposedly killing the competition with nothing but his resume. Further details are sketchy, due to the uncultured nature of the reporters, forcing them to be annihilated. There is also a distinct lack of activity, of which the Internal Affairs Councillor had to say this: "I attribute the lack of activity on the language barrier. Who can speak Esperanto?"

Foreign Affairs
We have little to say, other than that Wintreath is the main harbinger of activity. Go winter!

Cynosure should try to show of its beautiful design capabilities in these updates. Your website is so beautiful, I nearly joined the region the second I became aware of its existence.

I'll chime in with a third. I remember seeing this region some time last year and was very impressed with the website. I may have been the one to show BT. Anyway, if I wasn't neck deep in running my own region right now I might've joined

I'm glad to see so much positive feedback. Wuufu works very hard to maintain the region and I'm glad on his behalf that people are recognizing his hard work. :D

Cynosure: August 2016 Update
We're not dead yet! We feel happy!

Statistics
Population: 110 (20% decrease)
Citizens: 46 (27% increase)
Senators: 9 (25% decrease)
Delegate Endorsements: 12 (20% decrease)

Councillor ProfessorHenn leaves
After a large victory margin in his election following an uneventful end to Gibraltarica's term, ProfessorHenn promised Cynosure a resurgence in activity. However, this promise was cut short by a bout of inactivity, which was not explained to the people of Cynosure. Citizens began to become irate. This feeling of uneasiness was only perpetuated by Henn's departure from the discord server. Eventually, Henn left the region for Warzone Europe. Many in the senate began to call for a vote of no confidence. Eventually, such a vote was spearheaded by Gibraltarica, LordSylveon, Sd.Kfz.184, and Qora. However, this vote was made useless by the constitutional removal of his citizenship due to his nation leaving the region a few days before the vote could take effect.

LordSylveon elected 6th Councillor of Cynosure
After a close election and a second, very close, runoff election, LordSylveon was elected Councillor over main competitors Gibraltarica and Sd.Kfz.184. LordSylveon wasted no time after his election, almost immediately appointing Sd.Kfz.184 as Councillor-appointed Sage following his resignation of the role following election to Councillor, and then proceeding to reappoint most of the councillors who had been eliminated from the Council of Brilliance under Henn's term to their previous positions, most notably reinstating Xah as Councillor of Roleplay and Gibraltarica as Councillor of Culture.

Continuance of Activity in the Community
Despite what would seem to be a drop in activity due to population decline, our discord server and RPs are active as ever. What has helped this is the recent rise in citizens who are willing to engage in RP and our community, as opposed to the situation a few months ago. We apologize for the appearance of inactivity from the outside and any inconveniences that might have caused. We were very much active during that time, we simply didn't bother to inform the outside world of it.

Cultural Activities: Coming Soon!
As a part of the brainstorming of the Council of Brilliance, and the recognition for the need of Cultural Events, a bill titled "Cynosure Holidays Act" made its way to the senate. Most notably, this means that from September 11-18, Cynosure will be celebrating Pirate Week with pirate themed RPs, redesigned forum masking, and various other activities on discord, the forums, and the website. More information will come as the situation develops.
In addition to this, Cynosure has recently developed a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon RP, while our main RP has been doing well. It is active and turbulent as ever, with yet another nation undergoing a foreign invasion. It continues to grow as more citizens become involved.

In other news, 4 for 1 sale on bananas today.

In accordance with the recent passage of the Cynosure Holidays Act, the Council of Brilliance has decided to enforce the first ever Pirate Week (In sync with the Pastafarian Holiday of Talk like a Pirate Day), hosted from September 11-18. Pirate Week will feature many games, contests, and the crowning of the Real Dread Pirate Roberts!

But what can you do to join in the Pirate-y fun?

  • Join our regional ejection contest. Contact Gibraltarica on discord, the forums, or by telegram to enter in the contest, and move a nation to https://www.nationstates.net/region=pirate_bay
Every day, we will eject a certain amount of nations based on who comes last in the daily world census.

  • Join our Pirate Day RP on the forums! A Spaceship has crash landed in Cynosure, a ship full of alien Pirates who have nothing in mind but ruining the world for their own gain! Be part of the pirate eradication solution, or attempt to solve the issue diplomatically, it's up to you.
To join in the RP, apply in this thread for Visitor Status: http://cynosure.wuufu.co.uk/forums/view ... ?f=2&t=763 ! A link will be provided when you sign up.

  • Daily polls and various games on Discord and the RMB! Feel free to join in at any time!

  • A NationStates Pirate Hunt, where you go hunting all across NationStates, attempting to solve the question of where all of Gibraltarica's gold has gone (seriously, it's for his college fund). Go to this thread: http://cynosure.wuufu.co.uk/forums/view ... f=10&t=764 for more info

  • A fun time all around with the community! Remember, everyone is invited to participate!

Reopening
Cynosure has recently reopened its doors after collapsing in 2016 with a brand new constitution and a whole new roleplay experience. Our new roleplay lore, created by our Roleplay Master Xah, centers around The Nexus, an extra-dimensional region that looks like a wide, infinitely long tube about 100 km in diameter, in which about every 2 kilometres, there is an indent in the surface where gates can be opened to other worlds. Each nation is a Client found on the other side of these gates, allowing for endless possibilities in roleplay, political intrigue, structured conflict, and differing technology levels bashing heads against each other.

Internal Affairs
Since Wuufu and Xah opened the region, we've had five new citizens join us and one new Councillor, Raconuu, join the Council of Brilliance. The Council of Brilliance itself is a seven seat collegial body, based off Switzerland's Federal Council and providing each member an equal say in how the region is run. This is setup this way to help ensure the future success of the region so work is shared by the Council rather than centered on one person trying to delegate.

We've also introduced a new citizen-lite role called the Roleplayer. The Roleplayer doesn't need to have a nation within the region, doesn't get to participate in elections or referendums, and doesn't get to run for any governmental positions. Instead, Roleplayer's are purely focused on the roleplay and/or culture of the region, and have access to participate fully in both areas. An easy win for those wanting to dive straight in but don't care about anything else.

Cynosurian Affairs
Since our last update, our region has increased from 7 to 12 citizens and 1 to 9 roleplayers. We have a very active Discord and a comfortable roleplaying experience on our forums. We're also pleased to announce a new Councillor in our ranks; Katie has taken the role of Councillor of World Assembly Affairs, and become our first non-interim Delegate of our reborn region.

Our Senate has opened for business given our reach of 10 citizens, a point at which our Constitution allows for those with a legislative interest to run for office and craft laws to direct the way our region is run, however at this time no citizens have decided to take up the mantle of office, so we have no Senator's in our Senate. The resulting effect is that nominations will remain open until such time as someone decides they would like to run.

We've also made our first major reconnection with an old ally; that of Wintreath. This is going to be the first of many new reconnections as we ramp up our foreign affairs efforts over the coming months to connect with other regions and share in their activity.

The Nexus Roleplay

About The Nexus

Our nation roleplay revolves around The Nexus; an extra-dimensional region that looks like a wide, infinitely long tube about 100 km in diameter, in which about every 2 kilometres, there is an indent in the surface where gates can be opened to other worlds. Each nation is a Client found on the other side of one of these gates. Players are in full control of their creation, from the species that makes up their world, to the technological level that their nation is at, to other PNPC nations that inhabit their universe beyond the Nexus gate, allowing for endless possibilities. Clients interact with each other through the Nexus in diplomacy, trade, first contact scenarios, and war; with strict rules from the Nexus Owners governing those interactions.

News from Qora

The conflict against the Quadropedic Xenos Menace rages on. Thousands of souls have been lost in the conflict so far. A non-chalant plea for aid has been sent.

The Qorsikan government begins to declassify first contact with The Owners to the FOUL XENOS.

A series of wargames commenced within the UAR on the planet of Gleam with great Qorsikan victories announced. UAR declares "This has never happened. Quit retconning our history!" Zombie menace proceeds to interrupt combat exercises. Qorsikan Inquisitors declare "Zombies aren't real."

First Contact

Various other first contact scenarios with The Nexus are ongoing, including ones for the Coalition of Sinikivi, The Confederation of Swarms and the Dominion of Piethrixian. First contact scenarios are considered introductory events for the Nexus roleplay.

The Extras - Other Culture

The Light After the Dusk (Roleplay)

Two years after the events that transpired on the planet of Chanveer, the Rastho Prime Incident kickstarted the Great War, an immense conflict between the enduring Dominion of Elliannia and the powerful Morimpan Empire. The United Autonomous Republics - a member state and subject of the Crown's Domain, and a frontline nation on the very borders of the conflict - was spurred into action to defend its very existence from the relentless Morimpan onslaught.

Driven by this existential crisis, the Royal House of Schindler and the twelve independent warlords of the Ellian Confederacy of the United Autonomous Republics set aside their petty disputes and made peace with one another for the first time since the founding of the nation. After ending the Ellian Civil War that had engulfed the Ellian Confederacy for the past century and a half, the United Armies and the United Starfleet set sail for the front lines to vanquish their Morimpan foes with the aid of Dominion forces.

It was a disaster. Lead by Admiral Blackwater, the eighty million strong combined Ellian allied fleet was lured into a trap and stalled at the Second Battle of Ascillia while the Morimpans under Fleet Lord Paq'Bucyvy speared their way through the allied defences. After finally turning his fleet around, the two adversaries finally met at the decisive Second Battle of Aulux where Blackwater's Battle Force was vanquished.

Desperate to seek any advantage they could get their hands on for the ground defence as the Morimpan fleet drew ever closer to home, the warlords of the United Autonomous Republics activated the secretive Chanveer Initiative; a covert research project that had been slowly progressing over the past two years. The plan was to use the zombie nanotechnology uncovered on Chanveer to raise the dead - Ellian and Morimpan alike - to shift the tide of battle.

Control of the ghouls was given over to the Ellian Logistics and Warfare Network, a network of artificial superintelligences which presided over most of the United Autonomous Republic's military planning. However, ELAWN had somehow lost control of the zombie virus during a test deployment and the icy world of Gleam became the new host to the latest undead outbreak.

The ghouls were still trapped on Gleam for now, but there was no telling how long they will stay put. The operation continued to remain a covert one even up to this point, but it was clear that the United Autonomous Republics required some extra help to get this situation under control. To avoid widespread panic, the Ellian Confederacy enlisted the help of small, covert military units from foreign nations to assist its own efforts.

Firefly (Game)

Xah, Oiniane and Wuufu (who also GM's) have come together to become Captain's of starships in a game based on the popular board game of the same name. The aim? To find a crew, find jobs, and keep flyin' all the way towards victory.

The game itself plays out through the Cynosure forums and alongside a custom made website for tracking all the pieces, where each player can buy crew, equipment and ship upgrades, deal with well known members from the franchise to get jobs (such as Niska and Badger), and complete the jobs to earn money to do it all over again, flyin' from one part of the Verse to the other as they do so.

You can't stop the signal!
