You might be interested in Greater Olympus as we have a emphasise on realism it is fairly new but I consider this a advantage since it means you can integrate your nation much better and easier.

Idly looking for a region. My main interests are the WA, roleplay, and NS Sports, but all of those I can do on the NS forum so I don't mind too much how active the region is in that respect or whether they have an off-site forum.

Requirements:

• Has an active founder or a shared founder puppet.
• Has a map where my nation can occupy an "Alpine" region.
• Will allow me to have 2 WA endorsements.
• Has existed for a reasonably long time.

The Free Coalition of Governments meets all these requirements. We have no endorsement cap and a good regional government.

Nova Historiae is a region that I know of which is an alt history roleplay region. While you are at it also consider The Universal Allegiance.

Being new to NationStates, I've received a lot of telegrams about "Defending" and "Invading" and "Raiding." One thing that's for certain, though, is that I would want to know which region out their allows for the fastest ascension from the lowest military rank up?

I can't really tell you as I've never really taken part in Raiding and the other things you've mentioned, but from my experience, you shouldn't go for the region that allows for the fastest ascension. If you are new to Nationstates, take your time to learn the game and understand how it works rather than diving in at the deep end and just expecting that you'll keep your head above water.

I can't pinpoint which one exactly, but shoot for a smaller region. A smaller region might seem boring, but they usually have lots of opportunities.

This may be true, but I've been reading most of the "Guides" on the forums around here, and I think I got a handle on it.

The East Pacific, without a doubt. The region has elected former raiders, roleplayers, members of a group that once couped them, and even UDL rejects to the delegate post, and that's just the delegacy.

Currently the region is doing an improvement drive where citizens and non-citizens alike may bring forth ideas and contribute. It's a great place to get started - give it a try!

Best off choosing what you want to do as in defending or invading. Choose what suits you best as if you do what you enjoy you will be good at it and likely to be most active. Active nations move up the ranks faster in any organisation.
Most important is that you are enjoying what you do and the rest comes naturally.

As said above, there's no one way. Find a region you like, work hard, and it'll come. And if you're enjoying yourself enough to merit being there, you won't mind how high up you are or how long apart promotions are

I personally am in a nice quiet region far away from the gameplay and close to the Roleplay and Cultural aspect of NationStates.

On whether to choose Raiding or Defending:
Do you like to crush other peoples efforts on the heel of your boot? Or do you like to help those in need rebuild the region and regain their lost happiness? Raiding can be fun, but the amount of people having fun is small to the amount of sad people. Whereas defending, not only are you having fun, but you are making someones day when you liberate their region or prevent an invasion. I am bias towards defenders, but I have nothing against Raiders. You can't have Defenders without Raiders. Without Raiders, NS wouldn't be as interesting to a lot of people.

Ascending to the top of a region isn't easy. You must prove yourself in various Liberations/Invasions and gain the trust of your superiors. Pick a region that is small enough to notice your voice, but big enough to make a difference in the NS world.

21st Century Rome might be a bit more niche than what you're looking for, but we have a democratic region. Elections every other month guaranteed, but usually every month. (It's a slightly complicated system. Effectively, we have some 2 month term positions, with some 4 month and 6 month term positions, but 1 4 term position that is misaligned from the others by 1 month. :P)

Also, we have a Senate that any nation can become a part of by joining the WA. They actually vote on all the things and write the legislation.

Edit: you are already in the WA, so you would be in the Senate the minute you enter. :)
