The Order of the Southern North is a tight knit RP community anyone can fit in. We used to be larger than we are currently, but we are getting things going again once more.

I like to think my region, Sonindia fits the bill pretty well!

We have a storied and long RP, and have a map (but being on it is not mandatory).

However, the RP is not terribly frequent. When you start one with someone it may be 24 hours before a response comes in.

But when the response does arrive, expect it to be long!

Here are some examples:

After the heavy fighting at the Danubian Heights, The Ultiorek Army changes tactics. Instead of retreating to the safety of Ultiorek Lands, The Army marches on the enemy's right flank. Ultiorek Cavalry troops arrive on the battlefields for the first time allowing the Balkans League to counter Hunnic cavalry attacks that would otherwise have inflicted heavy losses on them.

Using this new advantage, The Ultiorek Army launches a full scale attack on the enemy flank. Emperor Alexius himself leads the charge. The Ultiorek Cavalry drives the Huns back to the banks of the river. There they fight a great battle. The Huns counterattack twice and push back the Ultioreks. Realizing that losing a battle here would have disastrous consequences for Ultior, Emperor Alexius and his elite guards charge the entire Hunnic Army hoping to somehow gain a victory. They are able to initially push back the enemy, however they are quickly surrounded by Hunnic reinforcements. They fight for hours against all odds. Half of their force (500 Thousand strong) perishes in the battle. Finally, Ultiorek reinforcements arrive and drive the Huns back to the shores of the river. The trapped Huns are slaughtered by shores of the Danube. 5000 Huns perished in the battle. Now the Ultiorek Army must secure their gains. To prevent the Huns from counterattacking, elite Athenian hoplite troops occupy eight bridges along the Danube. The Emperor's elite guard holds the ninth bridge, while the Emperor remains at the Ultiorek camp to boost the soldier's morale. His son, Alexius II, commands the elite troops on the ninth bridge.

The Ultiorek Army will be encamped along the Danube for the duration of the winter.
Wow! Alsmost a thousand posts (868) since I last logged on!
Glad to be back guys.

But there had been no time for that logic further into the latter months of the year, as winter arrived turning the cold air that whistled from the plains of the Hunnic Empire to the mountains from a force of peace, to a force that whipped around terrible blizzards and the bringer of disease - devils magic. It had just been so that this very wind of darkness, in one of those short and dark winters nights had touched the father of Andrzej. Though at first it seemed his chills and fatigue were just his body becoming victim to the chilling and short days, it soon became apparent he had pneumonia. 'Perhaps I am lucky.' he thought 'After all, my blood was not spilled into that spring so many evenings ago. Perhaps a month has gone by. Perhaps two. I shouldn't know.' He dug deeper into this sickness, until assuming his survival became laughable. No one denied - not even he - that he approached deaths door. His days became ridden with the thought of that looming death, and a longing to see his son all while the Serber Army dug into camp for the winter, disastrously unaware of the still moving Hunnic Horsemen to their south in their very homeland, looting and killing. The man never worried once for his son, only that he may never see him again. A son he had promised to show, and teach the stars to. Knowledge that would now never be shared.

The low hills of the eastern plain were no longer covered in green, tall grass, but now were shielded by a coat of white soft snow, hiding the brown, and dying grass beneath it. Just as the fate of men is to spin tales of glory and grace to hide the true nature of suffering, that snow covered the ailing tall grasses in a coat of grace and beauty, the people completely oblivious to suffering as well as the sorrowing woe of the grass, they ignored those ridden with pneumonia's cries for medicine and help. Anything. 'The war requires all of our resources.' the soldiers reasoned, 'We can sacrifice men for victory, it is worth it.' said the generals in their gilded tents far from the battlefield. But regardless of whatever logic one subscribed themselves to, it changed not the death of those who were not only men, but lived, loved, and spoke just as they did. Had families, lives, and friends just as they did. No. It was ignored by all those but those who suffered the consequences of that negligence. Negligence of the inevitable suffering of man, just as there is negligence of the suffering of those tall and majestic blades of grass hidden beneath the snowy landscape. Andrzej's father realized this in his last few days, cursing all men for their cruel and ignorant ways. Unable to see the truth of suffering in exchange for safety from the discomfort it would induce.

But as all those men with Pneumonia began to die, were dying, or just accepting the fate of this disease. When the soldiers were cold, damp, and miserable. Ridden with frostbite and the like. In the coldest and darkest time of winter - when mysterious magic was afoot - something changed. A star appeared in the sky. But not like the stars that all those soldiers had seen in their childhoods since birth, no. This was a star that was far greater, far more perfect and of glory than any other one that they saw, or would ever see. They saw it above a town far to the south, and across the great sea, but they knew not of that land far to the south. They knew not Bethlehem, nor Joseph and Mary. Some of them would never hear of them, while the gospel would travel from Ultior to others of them, that became altogether irrelevant in that one moment. For as each of the sick men saw the star hail in the sky, they themselves woke up cured the next morning, and those that were dead found themselves pouring into the camp in awe that day as well. "I was dead, and now I live!" one man yelled upon his entry that morning, "Glory to God. He spoke to me, he told me of why I live again, have been given a second lease on life." those men all spoke that way, talking of being touched by God, knowing that a savior was to be born. And the camp heeded it.

But that father who had almost died, wishing to see his last relative, his only remaining son. His thoughts were, and remained preoccupied with such things. But not in the same dark and gloomy manner they had been before, but with a grateful, and joyous air. For God had helped him, and the light of the star cured him. He would live to see the boy in that city he had left all those months ago.

While the Ultiorek soldiers were customarily majority-Ultiorek, there was a band of Serber scouts with them on that expedition in those forests. So when he saw the Barichvarian King, he was shocked. He had once been to that Kingdom and could not possibly mistake this man for anything but a Barivarian. Before hearing the King's response, he looked to his compatriot, and immediately asked the Ultiorek Commander permission to mount his horse, and make for Solsthrade, the capital of Serbersia. Initially reluctant, the old captain gave permission, and the Serber was off at once. He began to wind through the woods before coming upon the ruined Barivarian Camp, dead bodies strew across it. Horror took over his face. Hunnic Runes and horses dotted the camp as well. "A Hunnic Raid." he whispered to himself in nothing less than terror. Instantly he reared his horse around and as it whinnied, it took off back towards the party he had just left. The horse moved quickly, darting through the trees, but that horseman would not make his way back to the Ultiorek Regiment, nor Solsthrade. As he began to hear the voices of the men that he had just left once again, he began to hear the faint clopping of hooves, but not Ultiorek ones. Before he knew it, those same Huns were upon him. He could do nothing. Only Serber blood was spread, and those Huns retreated into the deeper depths of the Forest before he could call for help.
Serber Soldier Illustration: http://trakia-tours.com/gallery/img-1-0 ... -54-55.jpg <- Enthnic Group Soldiers of Serbia: The Thracians or Thrace

Continuing...

The columns of Serber Soldiers stand tall, hair rustling against the evening winds as the sun sets, creating an odd bluish-purple-orange in the sky. The light is dimming, but still bright enough to see the faces and colours of their comrades arm to arm. They are on top of a hill - light brown tall dead grass around them. It comes up slightly past their knees. And on the other side of the field, a large Hunnic Cavalry force. The wind can be heard winding and slicing through the grass and wandering into the chilly cold mountains to the East. The Serber part of the offensive army is right next to a small, cool pond which is fed by a stream coming from those mountains. But soon that pond will be red - stained from the blood of the Serbers.

The father of a young boy by the name of Andrzej - a Serber who lived in the Athenian Republic, and then Ultior is amoung these Serbers. He stands in the front of the column, facing the Hunnic line. "We are all going to die..." frets a man next to him "Petre, I promised my son I would not die, and you will not either. Have faith. We may be at the front of the column, but perhaps by the grace of God we will survive." Just then an eeirie silence crossed the plains of the East. Then, the real Hunnnic Army crashed into the back of the Seber line. The men all turned. "Deus Vult!" a man in the army cried out, swiveling around, drawing a spear, and besetting himself upon the Hunnic line. The Huns may have had the upper hand before - but now the Serbers had a different trick up their sleeves.

The first three columns were a lost cause to them, the fourth got down on one knee and held significantly longer, sharper, and sturdier spears at a 45 degree angle towards the Huns. Then, as the Hunnic cavalry made their way back, horse after horse fell to the line. But once a Hun was off the horse they became a threat again. This risky tactic made it easier to repel the Huns, but cost many a Serber life. As a stray Hunnic horse was making away, the young father grabbed it by the reigns and made a mad attempt to climb on it. "For. My. Son" he said through gritted teeth, sweat, and tears. The horse jumped and clopped back and forth, but his will was too strong to let him fall off. Finally, he had mounted the horse.

Afraid he may appear a Hun to his comrades, he cried out "Deus Vult!" and charged into the Hunnic line. The combination of a long spear and being mounted on horse back did him well, but in the end, he was shot by an arrow from behind as he stabbed a Hun. Then, a barrage of such arrows came down upon him - brown wooden shafts, a feather white fetching, and a ruby red tip hit him seven time over before he fell from the horse to the ground - bleeding, and dying. But that day, what he said was true - he would survive for his son. Deus Vult - God wills it. So for it all, he kept his heart beating as Huns swarmed around his motionless body. So despite the arrows, the retreating Serber army, and the massive defeat caused by splitting the Serber and Ultiorek forces, the Hunnic army in the territory they controlled was decimated. But there was one problem. Where was the larger Hunnic army?
Can we please just have the plural for the people of Ultior be Ultiorek?
The Serbersian army, mainly marching South to join the main force of the Coalition of the Balkans is flanked by Hunnic Cavalry and showered in arrows. But despite this, many contingents make it out alive as the Huns light the sky with arrows that are of fire. In full retreat, a small force diverts towards the capital, to fortify and defend it. The King of Serbersia must survive. He must.

Days later, the Serbersian army meets up with the main contingent in Ultior, exhausted, and frail - taking housing in villages and barracks, waiting to recover for the march across the Danube. But this time, there is no cheer in the villages. None, not across all of the Balkans, or all of the Mediterranean landscape that is Ultior. They all know that this new campaign coalition will result in most of their deaths, so their air is solemn. An Ultiorek boy sits on his houses white-clay terrace. His father goes on campaign in a week with the army, and his face has looked grim since the First Hunnic Invsions of Ultior a year and a half ago.

"Father?" the boy says "Can you teach me about the stars. I like it when you teach me about the constellations." "Andrzej - f I return alive, I will teach you everything I know of the stars, and the creatures of the World, but the time is too grim now for me to think of such things. I must keep my heart set on destroying those who killed your mother, grandfather, and uncle. I will make them pay. Remember, stay safe with your cousins in Crassus while I am away." "Father, promise me you will return alive!" said Andrzej running to him in an embrace. Both began to cry. "I promise you I will return Andrzej. And teach you everything about the stars..." the man said through his tears.

Quite well actually! Why don't you ever RP? You have a good culture and map spot.
New members! Welcome to Sonindia!

I am going to take a break from NS for December! I hope you all understand! Do not go to far ahead in the RP without me!

Edit: Misclicked on an issue, and now I have Child Labour. Not so happy about that.

The Emperor Alexius awaits the riders from Serbersia in his high citadel at Crassus. He eagerly awaits news of the war against the Huns. To ensure the safety of the Serbersians he has sent a squad of cavalry troops to locate them and escort them to Crassus. This cavalry group rides across the vast expanse of hills and mountains of Ultior and into Illyrium, a dangerous land with many Hunnic spies. Despite the danger of their quest, these soldiers are determined to find the Serbersian riders at all costs.

In Serbersia, the Huns are becoming more and more of a problem. A small group of men on horseback race from the sunset. They are headed towards the Capital of Ultior - Crassus to meet with the Assembly. They deliver an urgent message from the Crown Prince of Serbersia (pronounced Sir-bur-zha, or Sir-bur-see-ah). Looking behind them, they push their horses faster. The Huns are getting closer. "By YWHA I will not die today!" one swears in Serbersian as he kicks his horse onward. Arrows begin to fly past the small group as the Huns come into firing range. Their cavalry is simply too well trained for the couriers as they dash southeastwards. One man in the group, Miroslav, a close friend of many of the other horseback riders, and a former soldier in the Serbersian military speaks up "They are upon us! Merely a hundred metres from here is certain death! You have all been fantastic comrades. But my time has come."

Before a single one of the men can speak up, he rears his horse around, and into the Hunnic Horde. Drawing his sword, he rides directly towards the Commander of the Hunnic Cavalry. The groups of Serbers split up, each taking a different route. Finally, Miroslav jumped from his horse to slay the commander, but in the air, an arrow fairly ripped. He fell to the ground, but not before slicing the neck of the filthy Hunnic Commander. His lung was pierce. He held and cradled the wound, but e was wheezing through his last moments. But it wasn't the lung that killed him - though it certainly would have. No. He was trampled by hundreds of Hunnic Horses. But his sacrifice did save his friends. The Huns had lost sight of them by the time they had managed to organize a subordinate as the new Commander of the Cavalry, with two previous groups splitting off.

The men of Serbersia set up camp that night, speaking of Miroslav's great sacrifice. "What a man..." one murmured. Another began to cry. "He was like an older brother to me, and now... he is gone." Later, when things looked safe, the shattered body of Miroslav was recovered, bringing out more tears from the men. They scraped an inscription into the side of a cave that night and lay Miroslav in its deepest crevice alongside a small momento each of them had. In Serbersian the inscription read: 'In this cave lies Miroslav, destroyer of Huns, savior of the Serbers, and Man of Selflessness. May he be remembered forever.' The youngest of them even lay a stone tablet beside Miroslav before they filled the crevice wind soil and sand.

But as that young man - Andrei - looked out at the horizon that night, the grassy, warm, and rocky and Balkans to his North, and moonlight silver plains and grasslands to his south, he felt a tear roll down his face. He thought to himself. 'Nothing lasts forever. Nothing but earth, sky, and god. Nothing but the Earth and Sky...'

I will eventually finish this one section. Ultior, you are free to try to add onto this Role-Play. After all, I joined for the role-play. I just woke up, so you should probably be on soon.
The New West Indies could be a good fit for you!

We are a region of 77 nations that focuses on roleplay and somewhat on regional government – we're a good place to start, because we offer some complexity and a social community without the overwhelming pressure of a large region, if you're new to NationStates.

If you're interested in roleplay, our current canon is Modern Tech/Post-Modern Tech on a custom Earth map in the year 2140. We focus on a variety of aspects, such as diplomacy, national and international politics, business, and space.

Hey, I'm Rannoria, Minister of Foreign Affairs and whatnot of the Federation of Allies!

We're a region that's been around for a while and has lasted through different incarnations, but is now seeking to build its numbers back up again. In this region you'll find RPs, a regional government, and a tightly-knit community of around 20 nations or more, along with a custom world map, lore, and adaptability to allow for your lore to fit in. In fact, right now we're discussing as to whether we should reboot a bunch of the region's lore (after our region's version of the fall of Rome), so hopefully you'll find that interesting and see it as an opportunity to join our region.

Right now, our region's at a bit of a slow period, but we're working on it to hopefully bring it back to better activity, and hopefully to create some great RPs (or rather, one long continuous RP spanning different ages). Hopefully you'll join, and it'll be great to see you here!
This is Rannoria, don't forget to eat your own two feet!

please join the Federation of Allies

I'm not a serious nation if you can't tell. A cool roleplay region that's okay with my stupid nation's humor would be good. Or just some place chill, idc. Preferably a smaller community.

As I mentioned above, the New West Indies provides a variety of roleplay avenues from which to choose. While our nominal nation total says 78, there's really only 40 participating nations (not including puppets), which is relatively small.

We offer a place where you can seriously roleplay or just mess around and chill.

Looking for Fantasy Again, Y'all

Postby Aicrias » Sun May 05, 2019 6:31 pm

Hello, fellas!

It's (sort of, I guess) that time of the year where I'm easing back into the medieval and fantasy mood again, which means I'm gonna need to pin down somewhere in order to nurture my roleplay craft. These criteria I'm really sizing up;

- A well-set roleplay in the medieval time period, preferably without gunpowder (I mean, I do love me some things that make big boom, but it gets old real fast). I'd rather avoid excessive fantasy, but a small range of races and magic is doable, even encouraged. I would really like to see roleplay that is dominantly centered around characters, where events play out from their points of view.

- Roleplay is centered on the RMB or a subsequent roleplay forum thread.

- I do like realism and getting the nitty-gritty and detail parts of roleplay, for quality's sake, but I don't worship it, a stickler for everything, to the point that it takes away from the creativity. I would much rather be around flexible people who can look at something that might seem improbable, but give some thought and discussion, and then come back and ask, "what can we do to make this idea possible?"

- The region's map is not earth-based. I want some creativity and freedom since cartography is a side-hobby that I love to do. An earth map already has everything laid out for you, for the most part, and that's where it loses its touch to me.

- Perhaps an external server like Discord, to hold the gang together? Just keep the roleplay relatively separate, since I get all tied up in a knot if a server is cluttered up with roleplaying channels.

- On a personal level, iWiki and I do not mix well at all. I see it as a more complicated extra step. I want to be able to get into the roleplay as soon as possible.

And... I think that it... oh! That's it!

If you people can handle sudden overflowing spews of memes, then I'll feel right at home!

If y'all got something that might fit that, and I can be flexible with some of it, shoot me a telegram and we can have a cute little chat about astrophysics and the manipulation of space-time what'cha got, ayy?

Cheers!

Although we are technically Post-Modern Tech, MT nations feel right at home here. We offer a community of about 40 or so roleplaying nations in a world filled with diplomacy, spacefaring, business, international politics, and even a little sports!

Oh, and there is a free spot on our custom Earth map. :)

Calling our region sci-fi is a stretch, but you are free to check out the New West Indies regardless, which offers a Post-Modern Tech roleplay.

You may be interested in our spacefaring, which has spawned multiple solar system colonies and claims as well as the starship manufacturing business. Otherwise, there is an Alien storyline we have on the side that might also interest you.

Region Recommendation Please

Postby Mavoria » Sat May 11, 2019 4:40 pm

Hello all,

Some of you may know me as Bratislav (https://www.nationstates.net/nation=bratislav) I have done many years RPing, including founding the region of Atlas. After several years of hiatus, I am back, but with a new nation, Mavoria. I wanted to ask you for any recommendations for a new region to move into. I am looking for a region that is modern-time, modern-tech, reflects generally the current world (but not necessarily geographically)...no fantasy or future tech. Thank you in advance!!!

Conch Kingdom is great. It has an RP setup (Conch Kingdom RP that is set in modern times, with specific tech limits (as well as having a tech-limited near future option). It also has a variety of nations, some of which reflect present-day geopolitical relationships, but also some unique nations that shake things up, or resemble real-world nations that no longer exist. Best of all, it is very libertarian, and no one is there to tell you what you can and can't do (with some rules of course), and in general, the community there is very supportive and accommodating to nations of all types. They also have their own special set of stats too, called the Power-Point-Ranking Chart (link here: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=838420 ).

And hey, if it's not for you, then you can probably orchestrate an RP that involves only the nations that meet your criteria, like Tulov.

Just check it out. I went into that region blind, and it turned out to be pretty interesting and entertaining.

Hope to see you around!

Consider the Union of Allied States. We have an RP with some very dedicated members, and it fulfills all your requirements (well, it does have some near-futuristic things, but they don't really affect anything)

I'm glad you made your way back to NationStates!

The New West Indies could work for you, considering your interests. We are a Post-Modern Tech region with many different focuses within our roleplay, including business, space, international politics, and even a little sports!

While we are in the year 2141, technology is advanced in terms of spacefaring for the most part. War, diplomacy, politics, and most other aspects are mostly MT in their tech and style. Modern-Tech nations find a great home here.

By the way, our map does reflect earth. :)

I'm looking for a small-medium sized region that prioritizes RMB Roleplay over Discord Role play.

I'm looking for a diverse region, with a map just like ours, and with a spot open either on the Pacific Coast of North America or in Eastern/ South East Asia. (The first one preferred). Unfortunately, my country suffers from "Specific-Name-Itis" aha. Oh, and I'm also hoping that this region is set in the modern/postmodern time period. I hope to hear from you soon! :)

Uh well, our region, the Union of Allied States fits the bill pretty well, but both of your preferred locations have been taken (although Mexico and Central America is wide open, if that counts as the Pacific Coast of North America). Our RP is basically RMB only, and it's conducted on a separate Roleplay RMB to avoid getting lumped up with any other messages.

Given you're a former iiwiki user Esquarium might interest you, we have a fair amount of IIwiki featured pages including two of my own as well as a number of others. Now our map is completely unique and while we try to reflect the way the modern way is we strive for creativity, such as using conreligions rather than RL world religions and others.

If you're interested give some of our pages a read and see if its a world you want to participate in. Also you might want to move to
