I have some interest in moving to a GCR. There is a good chance I don't in the end, and I am also biased (won't consider Lazarus). But I'm asking anyone who has a clue, what are the pros and cons of each?

If you really want to find a GCR/region that you'd think you would enjoy, don't go on a forum asking for people's opinions on the topic. However, if you reaaaally want to, I'd suggest the North Pacific for a strong roleplaying community, but if you also like gameside or just dislike roleplaying they have a cool regional government where everybody can participate, and have ministries for alot of things including defending.

The Union of Democratic States surprisingly fits that description perfectly. We defend and have a thriving ministry of role play.

Of course you would say that, BT. Nothing against UCRs though, I'd consider them.

Try The Commonwealth of Crowns, we've got a very healthy offsite forum, we have a Discord too but it's less healthy.

We're not that big either, enough active members for daily posts but not enough to get lost in the RMB by any means. Everyone's pretty nice as well.

I've just created this nation and I am looking for the region that has the following:

• realistic role play (and nations with realistic names);
• role play based in the past (any time before the 2000s);
• a fantasy map (although I could stretch to a real world map);
• nations that role play as themselves (i.e. if they are called 'Saria' they role play as Saria and not a RL nation).

Unfortunately, none of these are negotiable.

The Union of Democratic States isn't exactly conservative, but it is a centrally aligned region. It has a strong gameside government with a little bit of role-play too. I think we fit your description pretty well!
