I realize it's fun to ironically vote Festavo for up-and-coming Defender, but given that he's still most definitely an invader, can we make sure he doesn't win as that'd be pretty disrespectful to others nominated in the category.

The Results are Out!

Postby Gameplay Awards 2015 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:09 pm

And the results are out! Congratulations to all the winners and we hope 2016 brings another exciting year in R/D gameplay.

Most Influential Gameplayer: Despite the impressive resumes of Astarial and McMasterdonia, the influence and charisma of everyone's "favorite" gameplayer is undeniable. In a blow-out victory, the award for "Most Influential Gameplayer" goes to... Cormac Stark!
In the past year, Cormac Stark has been involved in multiple significant events and occurrences, from coming back from retirement as a socialist defender under The Red Fleet to participating in the coup of The West Pacific, from being Editor-in-Chief of the famous gameplay publication "The Miniluv Messenger" to being involved in invader organizations such as Lone Wolves United and The Black Hawks.

Best Raider: A battle between activity and popularity ensued for the category of "Best Raider" between Cora and Ever-Wandering Souls. As the other three contestants (Marselesk, Raging Zen Master, and Kemi) fell behind in the race, one led the other right up until the finish line. The winner of the category "Best Raider" is... Ever-Wandering Souls!
A particularly notable accomplishment that thrust him into the international spotlight this year was Ever-Wandering Souls's infiltration of The Black Riders. He continues to play a notable role as a Lieutenant of The Black Hawks.

Best Defender: For the category of the head of the unsung heroes of NationStates, Benevolent Thomas took an early lead in voting. As time progressed, Drop Your Pants and Kazmr slowly gained on the leader, vote by vote. In the end, however, their efforts were futile as the winner of the category "Best Defender" turned out to be... Benevolent Thomas!
From his ill-fated and infamous project of The Grey Wardens to leadership appointments in the Renegade Islands Alliance Special Forces, the Founderless Regions Alliance, and Lazarus, Benevolent Thomas continues to be a crucial asset to defenders as one of the most active and classy people around.

Best Up-and-Coming Raider: In the closest race so far, a commander of DEN and an invader mercenary, both new to the gameplay scene, fought a bitter battle up to the finish line. Despite an early lead, Kyorgia fell behind just as quickly as he had risen, and the award for the category "Best Up-and-Coming Raider" goes to... Knot!
Responsible for many notable invasions in the past year, including St Abbaddon, Japan, and The West Pacific, Knot, a former defender, remains on the forefront of the raider side as a Brigadier General of DEN.

Best Up-and-Coming Defender: With only one defender nominated in this category, surely everyone thought it was going to be an easy victory? It wasn't. In a stunning display of bravado, many voted for the raider Festavo on this award, possible reflecting their opinions of what defending has become the past year. Fortunately enough, he was nudged off the podium by the winner of "Best Up-and-Coming Defender"... Red Dusk!
Red Dusk, a little-known soldier of the Spiritus Defense Force, has participated in many liberation attempts in the past year and is one of the most active defenders in recent months.

Best Invader Organization: The recently-revived DEN was pitted against the well-established TBH in a fight between notoriety and classiness. With both organizations being massive and active in their own right, it was a well-fought battle right up until the end. The award for "Best Invader Organization" goes to... The Black Hawks!
The Black Hawks, selling themselves as the most feared military organization in NationStates, conducted numerous invasions over the past year, including South Pacific, The Black Riders, and Middle Earth. The Black Hawks also hosted RaiderCon in early July to celebrate their tenth anniversary, which saw the induction of seven individuals into the Raiding Hall of Fame.

Best Defender Organization: As the ancient TITO and the revived LLA battled each other, the SDF soared above both organizations, landing itself a hearty victory. The award for "Best Defender Organization" goes to... The Spiritus Defense Force!
Despite a sluggish start in the first half of the year, the military of Spiritus continues to be an essential tool to update defending, fielding multiple active soldiers and participating in many defense missions.

Invasion of the Year: Although the significance is apparent in all nominated raids, the organization and professionalism involved in the top invasion is incontestable. The award for "Invasion of the Year" goes to... the Greater German Reich!
The invasion of the Greater German Reich took place after the vanishing of its founder. Notorious for its ad-spam campaigns and ideology, GGR was the prime target for many. With fascist support under Verborgenen Herrn of just under forty units, a coalition of over fifty antifascist, independent, imperialist, invader, and defender soldiers successfully invaded the Greater German Reich. Approximately one month later, the region was refounded and currently lies in the hands of Antifa.

Liberation of the Year: While the liberation of TBH-occupied Asia was a large effort, the liberation of Lazarus was a massive operation with multiple militaries taking part. The winner of the award "Liberation of the Year" goes to... Lazarus!
Upon the dissolution of the Peoples' Republic of Lazarus and the establishment of the New Lazarene Order, supported by the imperialist New Pacific Order, many independent and defender militaries responded to the call-to-arms, leading to a prolonged battle before Kazmr switched sides and ended the coup.

Noteworthy Event of the Year: Despite a strong showing for the significant Fall of The Black Riders and a smaller one for the Liberation of Lazarus, the winner of "Noteworthy Event of the Year" is... The Introduction of Regional Officers!
First discussed in the R/D gameplay summit that took place many years ago, the introduction of regional officers caused a massive debate in the Technical subforum, leading to many hurt feelings and rage-quits everywhere. The future for this new aspect of game mechanics is not set due to continuing changes, but one thing is certain: regional officers have changed R/D forever.

Congratulations again! Stay tuned for next year.

It isn't. Judging by his "enthusiasm" toward me winning Most Influential Gameplayer and his dislike of The Grey Wardens, my guess is he's a defender who feels that his identity needed to be concealed for people to actually participate in this.

I'll just leave it at that. ;)

Thanks to those who voted for me!

Just saw this thread. Quite surprised to see I did so well for Best Defender given that I've been mostly out of action since September :P Thanks for the votes, they're appreciated, though BT certainly deserves the win!

September was still in 2015. You're like that popular song on the radio in March that doesn't win any awards but was still really good. :P

The fact that all three leading candidates for best defender were from Lazarus is a triumph for the region.

That would be like me saying my raids with The Black Hawks are a triumph for Asgard because my main nation is in Asgard. Lazarus has exactly zero to do with why Benevolent Thomas and DYP are great defenders; for the former you can thank TITO's training and for the latter the FRA (before Lazarus ever joined it).
