USA: Global IRL troll?

Postby Uawc » Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:04 pm

Hello, NSG. It is I, your friendly neighborhood...whatever I am. Anyway, I've done an experiment and I want to share the results with you. So, here we go.

Anyone heard of the United States of Amurcka? Yeah, that was me. What I was thinking was this: would America, with all of its aggressive foreign policies, patriotism and its brand of "democracy", still be where it is now if it didn't have the same economic and military influence? So, I simulated. I simulated and I simulated. What I got was a "Capitalist paradise"; it had civil rights ranging from few to average, an economy ranging from powerhouse to thriving, and few to rare political freedoms. I resolved issues based on what America does in the present and has done in the past. And this is what I got. Then, I decided to go into NSFNI and boast about how great Amurcka is, talk about its "freedoms" and "the Amurckan way of life". You know what I got? I got two wars almost instantly, one of them nuclear and what would be considered a global conflict IRL. I admit that my stereotypical right-wing behavior was exaggerated, but nearly everything is on NS anyway. In the spoiler block below are some of the hilarious responses I got from people; it does not include the many telegrams I got, which mainly consisted of "this is a joke, right?" and "dude, fuck off!"

The facts indicate otherwise. Your civil rights are below average and your political freedoms are few. Your own nation page says so.

Yes ... Don't do it again please.

Now, do you mind if we set up some corporations in your country? :)

No and that is an off-topic subject. If you want to set up a corporation in another nation, put it in the Global economics and trade subject.

Oh, and there's this. There are probably more, but I can't find them right now.

I wasn't trying to insult Republicans or any Americans, I want to make that clear. All I was trying to do was to simulate America in a world where America is not a world power. So, in conclusion, I feel that I can safely say that if America did not have the economic and military power it does and if it still carried itself the way that it does, the United States of America would be a very different place than it is now. Thank you.

Wouldn't any place be much different if it had a great deal more or a great deal less economic/diplomatic/military power than it does now?

America is not really a troll. Trolls usually incite anger/hatred for the lulz, whereas American imperialism is more systematic and has ultimate goals (ex: wealth, power, territory, etc).

A historian named Howard Zinn passed away last week, but he had a great analysis for the development and history of America. You can find a brief version of his theory here on youtube.

(I'd recommend watching it, it is fairly accurate and enlightening)

Personally, I think if America wasn't largely aggressive throughout the course of history, maybe we would be more like our peaceful neighbours to the north.

Yeah I seen that, but the fact its based on your opinions of said policey and, the fact you did it with a national populance so low, shows you took what, maybe 4 days effort?

I say no, at least no more than any other country. News flash most nations act and look out for number 1. As the song goes the most important number of all. Also America Wouldn't its rise of power went hand in hand as did others at the time to what it is now, hell America was WAY more imperialist and expansionist in the past than now, even had DC burned to the ground, yet its still here.

I guess it is debatable, but I think your portrayal is a bit extreme, which is why people see it as parody. Not a very convincing simulation.

You could argue the US is trolling China though.

Trolls attract trolls. Sooner or later you have a flame war, a spam fest, and then the mods (UN) come and shut everything down. But see, America controls the mods, so it gets to keep doing what it wants.

I knew Zinn personally; I can't say that I agreed with his theories or even liked his political stance, but he was a credit to historians worldwide and brave for daring to put forth an alternative viewpoint to the traditional view of American history.

As for the experiment, I (rather dumbly, in hindsight) believed that the person typing the replies was an honest-to-God embarrasment to the Republican party. I'm a Republican, you see, and was horrified to see this stuff on even an Internet forum. I can't say that we are all like that, but there are some people that make you wonder...
Funny thing is, I suppose I should have tried to do that. Probably would've gotten similar results, but it would take away all the fun I've gotten out of NationStates so far.

Quotes of Awesome
Veblenia--I imagine it's like being the visionary that first thought of eating eggs. "See that thing that came out of the chicken's ass? Let's cook it."

Free Soviets--the intellectual culture here is interesting. we tolerate that massive diversity better than most places i've seen, but we expect you to either argue your shit or at least be funny.

Olthar--You're asking if people on NS are insane? That's like walking into a church and asking how many people are Christian.

Tokos--Yeah clearly he doesn't know Catholic dogma. You're not supposed to hate anyone. Jews are just infidel who rather spectacularly dropped the ball.
