Economic Question

Postby Rolamec » Sat Jan 30, 2010 7:27 pm

So I have a question....

GDP is adding up consumption, investments, government spending, and finally exports-imports, right?

Well how is my nation's GDP $140 trillion, when government spending is (or the budget) a $151 trillion? Never mind investments, consumption and surplus/deficit.

Does the site accurately give your nation's economy? Am I missing something?

depending on the calculator you use, it will be different. the cause is most likely an XML coding error

Well I mean, it just doesn't make any sense.

I'm at least $11 trillion behind what I actually should be for a GDP, not even considering consumption, savings/investments, and the surplus I happen to have. Kowever the calculator does it could be in error not just for my nation, but everybody.

There are a few ways to compute for GDP, none of which is necessarily anchored on nation spending. Remember, GDP is GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT, which is a measure of a country's production capacity and the value of its produced goods and services. National budget doesn't equate into GDP. Of course, budget would definitely change a nation's GDP, but budget isn't a determining factor in computing for GDP.

Wouldn't government spending be the same as the government budget?

budget is how much is set aside for govt. spending, not the actual spending of it
