The Howler: TRR Delegate election

Postby Gradea » Tue Jun 09, 2015 8:12 pm

GRADEA Editor

In what has transformed from a simple election has evolved into one of the most drawnout political sagas in The Rejected Realms' twelve years of existence.
Firstly it was Gradea who challenged Unibot, citing the reason that a Delegate should not have served for one year without being challenged. Then Cormac Stark and Reject stalwart and Game Moderator, Crazy girl, threw their hats into the ring.

The election got messier as Cormac Stark withdrew and resigned his citizenship. Then Unibot withdrew after serious allegations raised their ugly head. In the latest twist, former Delegate and incumbent Speaker of the Assembly, Guy has stepped up to the plate, urging citizens to vote for him as an interim Delegate.

The election will go on for a week and the Howler is worried if it's combatants will leave unscathed.

Free Press News Service is currently performing a study to see if it should publish its "foolproof solutions". I mean, I don't technically write for them, but they follow me around from time to time.

This was actually a good article. States the facts, no bias, perfect grammar.

Only knock on it is that it's short- I'd have given more information about the messier bits; quoted Cormac's resignation, quoted the allegations (EDIT: if legal to do so, a quick view of TRR's boards leads me to believe they're classified), quoted Guy. Some people will roll eyes, but quoting your own notification of challenging the delegate would have also probably been appropriate.

Kinda makes me think we should have some kind of guide to article writing stickied in this forum.

The lowest level of GP.

Why anyone ever would want be delegate of TRR?

Unibot cut his own 'balls' (and UDL's all the same) doing that wrong move. Why it should be repeated by lesser spirits?

I'm not surprised for Gradea. Its his natural place. :p

I'm dying to know just what said allegations are. First, there was Tomb in TNP, now it's Uni in TRR. Is The Shadow Government systematically eliminating GCR delegates?

Because NS is a political game and being a sinker delegate is all about politics. You should try the GCRs someday, they're actually quite welcoming places. Even to you.

And that's not really a bad thing, is it?
At the very least the (in my opinion) atrocious formatting on the TRR WFE could be fixed. There's just so much empty space...

Not exactly. Contrary to the chronological order presented in the article, I challenged for Delegate a number of hours before Unibot withdrew. In fact, Unibot still appeared on the initial ballot form. This is something that Gradea should know, seeing that he cast a vote using that form. But unlike most people commenting on news articles in this forum, I'm willing to excuse harmless mistakes. :P

Things that virtually every "professional" newsagency fucks up damn near every time anyway, so it's not a scratch on him.

And me, apparently, but Word didn't highlight that sentence as a grammatical error for me for some reason.

No journalist is perfect. That's a universal truth. Although NS journalists strive for perfection in their articles, it is an act of futility. Somebody will always find something wrong with an article, but that's no big deal. We try our best and that is all anyone can ask of their self or another.

Tells a much fact as TRT, sooner, and with a lot less fluff ;) I don;t mind the copromise between the lovely Tl;Dr news and blocks of text I don't have time to read. I got what I wanted to know from this, for now.

Good on you. However, I feel you've misjudged the situation.
This isn't a case of a user not being up to people's standards. This is a case of a user having a huge reputation as a forum spammer.

There are much less deserving victims of the Gameplay circlejerk that you should save your advocacy for.

No misjudgement, I'm well aware of that reputation. Gradea is a user that has improved significantly over the last few weeks, and should be given incentive to continue to improve.

To be honest, I have to question whether the article says a lot more than tl;dr does, and it got a couple of points fundamentally wrong. The first was canvassed above (relating to the chronological order of the events portrayed in the article), the second is that Cormac has not resigned his TRR citizenship, rather only withdrew his challenge.

Again, this is not to say that I do not applaud Gradea for having a go at his own media outlet. I think that such outlets can have a very positive contribution to our gaming experience.

It's the nitpicking of those -- a number of them in this thread -- that jump on every small mistake that someone makes when it suits them, and ignores them when it does not, that is the problem. We are playing a game, and we are all bound to get some things wrong.
