Nohbdy Is a new concept in gameplay. We are not affiliated with Defenders, but we are not affiliated with Raiders either. Any Gameplayer, new or old, may come. We are a social group of gameplayers, who are associated with all kinds of gameplay organizations.

Nohbdy Knows:
There are too many stories in NationStates for everyone to be noticed, even though some of the hardest working nations never get recognized. My solution to this problem: Nohbdy Knows a series of interviews and articles about the little guys who make sure the big guys get to keep their prestige, and the raiders who started with nothing but a puppet, a WA email and a friend. Sure, it won't be anything earth shattering, but it will at least be a window into the inner workings of gameplay regions, and a chance to recognize lesser known players for their service.

Greetings habitants of NationStates!

My name is Nohbdy, although I am more commonly known as We Are Not The NSA. I am a fairly well known raider, currently working with DEN, and formerly The Black Riders. Several weeks ago, in an event which will be remembered for the rest of time, the founder of The Black Riders was deleted, and the raiders lost control of the region. Since then, there have been many changes. During these fast-paced weeks, people's true feelings and allegiances were revealed and tested.

For a short while, I considered quitting NationStates, after seeing some of the things that were being said, by both sides. Insults, slander, trolling, flaming... some of the most hateful words that I have ever heard. How can one trust in their community if their community (referring to all aspects of NationStates) could behave with such animosity? I decided to take a two week break from NationStates.

A few days ago, I had a realization. I, an outspoken raider, have had discussions with various individuals with an anti-raider opinion. I have, over time, come to respect many people on all sides of gameplay. I have seen both defenders and raiders treat each other with respect, even though nobody expects them to. When it comes down to it, R/D is just a game, and if you play it right and show others respect, everyone gets along, because even though we have the titles of "defender" or "raider" or "independent", when it comes down to it, we are all the same. We are Gameplayers, a fun and interesting lot who enjoy playing our part of the game.

It is with this belief, that I am extending an invitation to any player, no matter who's side they are on, to send a puppet Nation to Nohbdy. Nohbdy is meant to be a social region, specifically meant for friendly conversation between Gameplayers. It is not exclusively invader, and it is not exclusively defender, nor is it to be controlled by any other region (I plan to be as impartial as I can). If I can get a decent amount of support for this concept, I have some really good ideas. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

The name actually comes from Homer's The Odyssey. It is my favorite part of the poem. While Odysseus and his men are sailing home after the fall of Troy, they came across a strange island. Odysseus takes his men ashore to explore, and they find a large cave. When they go inside, they realize that the island is the home of the race known as the Kyklopes (Cyclops). A Cyclops then enters the cave, and traps the men inside. Odysseus, being a man of great intelligence, realizes that the Cyclops is going to eat him and his men. He and his men gather together a feast to offer the Cyclops, who is happy to eat their food. , The Cyclops then demands to know who Odysseus is. Odysseus tells the Cyclops that his name is "Nohbdy".

The Cyclops soon becomes very tired, from all the food, and goes to sleep. Once he is asleep, Odysseus and his men quickly take a discarded log, which the Cyclops had used as a toothpick, and, using it like a battering ram, stab it through the Cyclops's eye, blinding it. The Cyclops begins screaming, and throughs open the door to the cave to run outside. As Odysseus and his men sneak away, the other Cyclopses come running, and gather around their blind friend. They ask him "who was it? Who did this to you?" hoping to avenge their comrade.

But all the Cyclops could say was, "Nohbdy! Nohbdy did this to me!"

Originally, I meant to make it a raider region. Then I wanted to make it a mercenary region. Now I actually have a purpose for it, and I've come up with some great ideas. I'm going to post more when I have more time, but until then, feel free to send a puppet over.

Alright, so I have several ideas for what this region could feature. The main concept is just various people from different organizations being able to speak freely in a discussion that is allowed to go off topic, unlike in the gameplay forum where the discussion needs to be about what the thread is about.

A few people have sent puppets over already, so at the very least I know this plan isn't awful. The second idea that I have is based off of these threads:

Now, the moderators have been consistent in telling us that there is not going to be an official gameplay mentor program. My idea is, if we have enough representatives from different organizations and different sides, a fairly effective mentor program could be put in place. If a new nation wants to learn more about raiding or defender, they can come to Nohbdy and correspond with a mentor from whichever organization they are a part off, or want to learn from.

If a couple of experienced gameplayers from different sides volunteered to mentor, it would be beneficial to everyone. New gameplayers would have an easier time adjusting to gameplay, and learning how to do stuff. Mentors get the chance to try to personally recruit people who are interested in gameplay, and if they successfully recruit people, they get the chance to personally train their new recruits. I'm actually thinking of letting the region be recruiter friendly.

Anyways, I know there are some logistical details that I'm missing, but if anyone has any comments on this idea, please make them.

Not really. There may be a hierarchy to add a bit of order to the mentor program, but I will control the region. However, I plan to stay out of everyone's business.

Considering the fact that I woke up at 11, decided to do this today instead of a month from now like planned, got all the content for the first installment, edited all the content and started the next installment before 1, I'd say It's been a pretty constructive Sunday Morning.

Nohbdy Knows: Opening Statement

So, I've been playing around with Nohbdy for a while now, not really sure what to do with it. I tried to found it off of a principal of friendship and Raider defender relations, and while I got a decent amount of support, I was unsuccessful in getting the region off its feet. That was entirely my fault, I had never run a region before, I didn't understand how to manually recruit and I didn't have anyone else in the region who was active enough make up for mistakes. Then I added the gameplay mentor program, which at the time seemed like such a good idea, but now I understand that it is hard enough training your own noobs, let alone training ones who aren't there own.

So, a few weeks ago, I came up with a new idea. I was having a conversation on Skype with Ever Wandering Souls, McMannia, and a few other players, when a topic came up that grabbed my attention. EWS mentioned that up until Operation Estonian Paralympic Team, he had never heard of McMannia before, even though McMannia had been a semi-active member of The Black Riders for years. That got me interested. It occurred to me that I hadn't even known that McMannia actively participated in raids until a few months before, even though he had been doing so since before We Are Not The NSA had been founded. I realized that most of gameplay, and almost everyone who isn't involved in gameplay, gets their news from formal statements by the admin of various large regions, statements that fail to recognize everyone involved. When you're writing a raid report, you don't include the names of pilers: that's just the way things work. I realized that there were dozens of raiders that nobody had ever heard of before, but who had long histories in gameplay. There are small regions that never get a chance to be recognized for their accomplishments because TBR raided another region and we're all obligated to make a big fuss about it. There are entire stories that occur in this game that nobody ever pays any attention to.

My solution to this problem: Nohbdy Knows a series of interviews and articles about the little guys who make sure the big guys get to keep their prestige, and the raiders who started with nothing but a puppet, a WA email and a friend.
