Impending Termination of the Treaty between Balder and Osiris

The Government of Balder hereby announces that it is requesting that the Storting of Balder repeal the Treaty of The Ancient Gods between Balder and Osiris with immediate effect. This follows disrespect towards Balder revealed in Osiris's recent statement terminating its alliance with Europeia and the ensuing discussions.

Initially, in the course of negotiations between Balder and Osiris, a determination was made to terminate in-game embassy relations between the two regions after it was indicated that no settlement was possible. Following further discussions, Balder determined that the end of the treaty could be conducted on an amicable basis without the cancellation of in-game embassies. We have accordingly cancelled the de-construction of in-game embassies.

It is indeed regrettable. Osiris is not the oldest ally of Balder, nor is Osiris the ally with which we are necessarily most ideologically aligned. Nonetheless, we have always placed a special value on our relationship with Osiris as our sister sinker. As it is, considering all the circumstances, Balder feels that that an amicable end to the alliance is the only appropriate decision for a sustainable relationship going forward. The decision was not taken lightly.

Also, it is interesting that Onder, the Statsminster of Balder and thus Head of the Government, ordered the closure, but Solorni, a totally, absolutely powerless Queen with no decisions over foreign affairs, stopped it. As the in-game World Assembly Delegate, the Queen has a specific statutory power to veto the construction or de-construction of in-game embassies, which exists separate from the general grant of executive authority to the Statsminister. However, in this case, the decision to cancel de-construction of embassies was a mutual decision within Balder reached following the renewal of negotiations with Osiris, after talks had previously drawn to a close.

Formal notification to Osiris will follow the vote of the Storting. The Pharaoh and I have discussed this.

At this stage, what has been announced is the Government's request that the Storting terminates the treaty with immediate effect. Assuming that the Storting agrees with the Government, notification to Osiris will come after that. The Cabinet is not vested with a unilateral right to repeal treaties.

I hadn't seen this statement before asking in Osiris' embassy if Balder intended to hold Onder accountable for violating our treaty. I should have known.

Honestly, good riddance to this alliance. It's been more trouble than it's worth for years, and Osiris is better off without Balder, Europeia, and The LKE. More doors will open for Osiris here than will close, but the same is not true for Balder. I do appreciate Rach trying to let cooler heads prevail earlier, but unfortunately, it's Onder and The LKE who control Balder, not Balderans -- not even their Monarch and Delegate, who, while she has her flaws (as we all do), is at least genuinely dedicated to Balder and not just to what Balder can do for her userite sphere and ideology. It's a shame to see people like Onder in control of Balder now when Rach worked so hard for so long to make it a thriving, active community. This is what userite imperialism in decay looks like. It's ugly, but ultimately it's what Balder deserves after years of letting imperialist leeches suck the life out of the region.
