Your first impression of NationStates

Postby Gradea » Tue Feb 17, 2015 10:37 pm

When you first ventured into the world of NS, what did you first find? Were you active or inactive for the first few months? What was your feeder region? What were your first impressions of NationStates.

I first came across NS on a forum I was viewing. I am still a "new" nation, and am very active on NS.

I was trying to find information on a fictional nation in the game Empire Earth. So I bumped into this exact nation. Interested, I founded my first nation - this one. I don't remember my feeder region, but I (kinda) remember my first impression. I was founded so close to April 1st, so the 2011 event gave me a heart attack, after which I wasn't so active on NS because I simply thought my account could be so easily hacked. :p

And then, I returned. And I have stayed since.

Me?

I can't remember my feeder region, I think it was the North Pacific but I could be mistaken. I first saw this whilst looking up random stuff about nations. I decided to search for how to create a nation and eventually found the create a nation part of NS.

Curious, I entered and eventually decided to form a nation. Thus, Zhongguoaodaliya was born. I was inactive to begin with but eventually started posting, then got an International Incident going. It is noteworthy that I am somewhat new to this but I now have some experience.

I believe I started in the East Pacific and I have only just now been active in the community because I'm antisocial, but my nation has been around about 8 months or so and thriving, but unfortunately I came into existence only 3 days before the Halloween zombie thing so I was just playing and, whamm! My nation goes into corruption, but overall I have enjoyed it.

My real life friend introduced the game for me when I discussed with him possibilities use social media for learning better skills in English by using it in practice. I was politically very active then and after making myself familiar to basics of the game I searched a front line, applied to WA membership and joined in to a Anti-fascist occupation at National Socialism. Within week or two I got my first approach from the NS moderation concerning too aggressive methods for rallying more troops on various RMB. My first region I called Home was The Internationale (then 16-20 mostly non-WA puppets) after I contacted TI's to now DEAT'd founder La Pasionaria for asking help to join to the struggle...

For me it was like arriving to a front line of war. That was my impression then, and it isn't changed.

I actually wanted to chat with people from Poland, so I figured why not try this game out. Made a nation, moved to the region Poland.

I came across NS via Stumbleupon.com. The website did too good of a job, because I've never logged back into it since :p I personally really enjoyed the game until I started getting repeat issues. Luckily for me I was in a region that had an active political scene. As I was tiring of the game, I got a random TG about an election in my then region. It was from one of the candidates asking for my vote whilst also attacking their opponent. I found it so moving that I hopped onto the regional forums to check the whole thing out. One week later and I'm up to my neck in nation RP (I had never roleplayed before in my life at that time). Fast forward 3 and a half years and I'm no longer involved there nor do I RP, yet I'm still playing NationStates.

Well I started mid 2013 on the Nation of Reengville - which I did nothing more than answer issues. Got sick of it and had the nation CTE. Some mates introduced me to it and we found humor in how crap it was. We all were convinced issues was all anyone did and we couldn't wrap our head around over 3 million nations had been made. We played it as kind of...for the fuck of it.

I gave NS another chance early 2014 under the nation of Roricsted which was founded in TNP. Within a matter of hours I was banjected from the region since my currency was the "Infant" and the administration didn't seem to like that. I was recruited into Versutian Federation and from there was introduced to the wonders of gameplay through being pushed towards damaging CAS. I guess that's it.

Without telegrams this game is boring! I have so many things to get done, but oh no i have to watch a movie! This is such a cool game. I'll unblock telegrams now. Ooh! This region looks cool. I first joined in 09 and was active for a few months, after which i got bored and CTE. Came back later in early 2011 and became active for life(with a couple CTEs through the years because of school and stuff). I joined the first time because forums seemed pretty cool. The second time i joined because i had nothing better to do and had a friend on it.

I was browsing ''Alternate Future of Europe'' on YouTube, when i came upon some guy's channel which had a link to a nation here called Brabantium i think. It had CTE'd, but i decided to check this website out, and Soled was born. I found it pretty funny so i created about 30 puppets, of which only 1 is still alive (Wraland). I don't remember which feeder i was born in, but my first home region was Minecraftia.

Oh well, I just dealt with issues and logged off :P That's how you realy get a first impression of this game. Although if it's about the first impression of NSGP, then a friendly "Sup bro." from Milograd should count at least.

Joined on August 23rd, 2013. Started off just answering issues. I had an idea on how to "raid regions", then discovered that people were already doing that in organized groups, went to TBR's page to join them then looked at their embassies and saw the damage they'd done, and founded my own Defender region that never really got off the ground, since it was my first region. And of course everyone knows the story of TEK, when I founded this nation as my new main on December 30th, 2013 along with the new region, etc. I was formerly known as Acitcratna (Antarctica spelled backwards), though that wasn't my first nation, it was my second, though founded on the same day as the first.

This nation was originally founded in the West Pacific. The first pacific I was founded in was either the North or South Pacific- I don't remember which, but I want to say North. I never really looked at the region before leaving for my home region. Yes, I am in a region where I am simply a native. A founderless one, too.

Edit: I did read Unknown's and Morder's recruitment telegrams though. I ignored the rest. I seriously considered joining Unknown for awhile.

I believe I joined back in late 2008 just randomly googling political simulations :P

My first impressions was how complex and complicated it all seemed to my small 13 year old monkey brain at the time. It would be another 7 years till I even knew what gameplay was :P

I loved playing wargames and governments and stuff ever since I was a 5th grader. I even made up a fictional country (or micronation) in school, the citizens were my classmates, and I was the 'President for life'. Yeah, it was pretty fun.

The territory of the nation was my whole class. We made up a rule that everyone that came in must say 'Heil Beaterzone!', which what the country was called, and do a fist bump. Everytime a teacher comes in my classmates told them about the rule, and as it went on and on, my teachers actually follows that rule. Feels amazing being able to 'command' someone.

Then out of nowhere I looked up in google "government game" and NS came up on the first page somehow. I first thought that this "game" will focus more on gameplay rather than the forums, so I created my first nation (which is this, Kenzinia) and tried it out.

After playing for a while, I noticed that there's a forum button on the main menu. I clicked it and hell, that's what NS is all about. My first ever post on the forums is in F&NI, the only place where I post before I found out that you can "trade" and wage wars in other sections of the forums. So I tried it out and this is where I am right now.

Not my current opinion, but at first I thought the game was really slow. I think that new nations should be encouraged more to use the forums and get involved in regional politics. I discovered them a month after I joined, and I came close to quitting the game before.

My boyfriend had been playing the game for a few months. I was growing rather testy over the amount of time spent on NS vs me. One day I watched him tinker with his nation statistics and decided I wanted to create something just for fun. And so Xoriet was born. NS itself...I wanted to join a roleplay region but decided I liked my current home. It was interesting, but aside from the RP with my boyfriend, which was agonizingly slow, I answered issues and played with my factbooks. I wasn't exactly star-charmed, but it was some level of fun. Now it is more so, despite all the drama and stuff...
