The topic I am starting is 'How do you increase female involvement in NationStates? A poll in 2011 showed that 17% of all participants were female. The same poll was taken again in 2013, and this figure dropped 7% to 10%.

So this thread, think up of ways to increase female invlovement in NS.

Two things.
On the OP: dropped 7 percentage points, not 7%. If it had dropped by 7% the 2013 number would be 15.81% (0.17-(0.17*0.07)). Since it dropped from 17% to 10% it is 7 percentage points. (mandatory relevant xkcd)
Also, Ballotonia states one of the problems, it's a voluntary response bias. A lot of females on the interwebz don't want to be known as girls because they're often hit on, sexualized and depreciated. I've been in various regions and a lot of them had one or two female players and it was kind of sad and disgusting how much they were hit on. I can think of a few people (won't name names) that particularly were... annoying at the least, and to put it in a way that won't get me warned.

Overall, I think the way to fix this is to fix people doing what I explained above, being creeps. And that won't stop anytime soon. There's a strong sense of empowerment that comes with being behind a screen, and guys for the most part become more creepy. I would like to state that I have been guilty of being a little creepy a few times, which I am not proud of. Once again, it's the empowerment of anonymity.

As ballotonia suggested, I don't think those polls reflect everywhere. My region has quite a few female members. If I might offer advice though, if you're looking for a thinktank about how to attract females, you're already going about it in the wrong way.

Ban MRA's. This would also make the forum more pleasant in general.

What is it with encouraging people from some sort of group into joining a hobby/career? You aren't missing much by not being a member of NS, ladies.

Sadly, I know of at least one region that endorses this kind of behavior. And there's a bunch of other regions that don't really moderate it unless it really gets out of hand.

Okay what the fuck? You post something about questioning mods authority and now, you want to start a unrelated, not necessary petition, even in the wrong forum.

I think this is an irrelevant discussion.

We're not talking about Parliamentary representation, we're talking about a strictly voluntarily game.

Everyone here could claim to be female. Would it matter? Could it be proven? (I believe the answer to both hypotheticals is "no.")

The one thing we have in common here is the gender neutral word "players." We all have at least one thing in common whether you like it or not. Both of us, and both of our genders, are players on NS, Nuke. And neither is superior to the other.
