Delta, your first post in this thread is spot on from beginning to end.

Xoriet, well stated response.

Lord Nuke, take your hate elsewhere. With attitudes like yours, it's no wonder many females probably refuse to disclose themselves as female. I'd be ashamed to be associated with you.

Rifty, I think that might send them running.

Sev....You don't know these skills. I have mad skills. I maxed them out. Now i can't speak to a woman without them fainting :P

Honestly i don't think a lack of women is a problem though. Im not on here to pick up....Gender is really irrelevant. If a man says he thinks NSG is a terrible place...i'll agree just as if a woman said it.

In my opinion... There's nothing we can really do. There's so much testosterone flying around from the nature of "online political simulation game" and what predominant sex of playerbase that builds, that the only females that you'll really see involved are

a) those that like/are indifferent about being involved in a male-cultured game
b) those that stick to a less contested, more friendly part of the game
c) those with a specific heavy interest in politics/RP/etc that outweighs the social implications

We can try to come up with specialized solutions to increase involvement for females, but every solution is going to drive away some and attract others. There's no arching answer to improve it for all of them.

There's only one real way for there to be increased female involvement. The ladies that are already involved or will be getting involved in our current NS need to have the interest and presence to change the game through the community, a la Crazy Girl and her 'Mother Knows Best State' improvement. Then the game will naturally become more appealing.

Advertise NS on Tumblr

Well... IMHO no "group" should be asked to come anywhere for the sake of
"hey, look at diverse we are". Diversity should come naturally. It shouldn't matter
anyways, we all are people here. well, those that aren't proclaimed cats and such.

It also helps to be welcoming to newcomers. Word of mouth is good.

The beauty of Nationstates is that it is not Penisstates or VaginaStates.
Everyone can be whatever they want to be. Better served is just to attract players to the game.

I hope people don't genuinely believe I'm a women hating misogynistic. My post was sarcasm and I frankly apologize if it came off as a disgusting attack on women. I'm deeply ashamed if what I've said has come off as misogynistic. I'm just not a funny person.

Learn to better label your posts as sarcastic then. I can tell you from personal experience that it is infnintely difficult to recognize sarcasm without some sort of modifier to your post that suggest such. (Italics, bold, sarcasm tag, etc.)

Whenever you use sarcasm, satire, or other similar methods, you always run the gambit of being taken seriously. It's an acquired skill, to be able to show people that you don't mean it. I suggest you put more thought into your posts in the future, and don't expect everyone to assume sarcasm in them.

Gradea wrote:The topic I am starting is 'How do you increase female involvement in NationStates? A poll in 2011 showed that 17% of all participants were female. The same poll was taken again in 2013, and this figure dropped 7% to 10%.

So this thread, think up of ways to increase female invlovement in NS.

A poll in the General forum. If you want to discuss the results of polls from NSG, do so in NSG. If you wish to discuss increasing female involvement in NS gameplay, then do a bit of research on the topic and post a thread specifically addressing that.

Either way, make a decision on which you actually wish to discuss, and then post your thread again in the correct forum, modified appropriately.
