Below you'll find a hopefully accurate list of active and reasonably sizeable regions, in alphabetical order, with accompanying information and important links relevant to said regions. I will try to source up to date information myself whenever possible, but otherwise if officials from those regions could periodically check to ensure I've supplied the correct information and update me on changes, that would be very helpful. Descriptions will only be added if written by seemingly legitimate officers of the relevant region. Please post such information in this thread, or telegram it to me, and I will see it is updated. If your region isn't present likewise let me know and it will be added.
The standard format is as follows. Descriptions are optional and additional links for pretty much anything can be added if desired. Please keep descriptions within a reasonable (and completely arbitrarily imposed) word limit. Thanks!

Capitalist Paradise (CP)

Description: Founded in 2003, Capitalist Paradise was established on the foundation of political freedom and to provide an avenue for in-depth debates on politics that often challenge political viewpoints in order to facilitate such an atmosphere, freedom of speech is held paramount. While the name Capitalist Paradise does invoke an image of the region's politics, nations of all political beliefs are recruited. In addition to the vibrant debates, CP also hosts regional role plays within its regional newspaper.
Government: Capitalist Paradise is governed by an elected CEO, the WA Delegate, and appointed Ministers as the Executive branch, the Legislative body is made up of all the nations in the region and a Supreme Court of elected jurors. Our government is unique in that its former delegates often remain active and serve as advisers (Vocals). Lastly, the Founder is the Chairman. All elected offices are held for a term of 90 days and election procedures are performed by a challenge system.
Commonwealth of Free Nations (CFN)

Description: The successor to the Next Generation Alliance, the CFN holds one of the most unique communities within NationStates, by my own experienced opinion. We host a group of unique individuals and traditions, including military, social gatherings, debates, and general discussion, all accumulated into our one of a kind culture.
Government: The CFN is ran off the principles of Democratic Republicanism. We elect a Cabinet of 6 Ministers, including the Chancellor, every 2 months. We are separated into a 3 branch government, with every eligible citizen being a member of Parliament, and the Chief Justice being elected by the people, then forming the rest of the Justice System as long as the Parliament approves. We follow a fitting Constitution and have an ever-standing Lord-Chancellor that does not impede upon democracy.

The Confederation of Sovereign States is a region anyone can currently join that lets you run your nation however you like. We'll still have a government, but it won't tyrannize you. Feel free to nominate yourself for a government position, or take part in the (optional) regional Cold War RP.
Government: The CSS is a constitutional representative democracy. The government still needs more nominations for various positions, so feel free to nominate anyone. Since there hasn't been a real election yet, the delegate is the acting archmember (sort of like a president).

Description: Europeia is a region with a long and storied history, spanning seven years and over six hundred thousand forum posts. Within those stories boast the accomplishments both big and small of a score of top NS players that have come from other regions to join us. And, of course, we shouldn't overlook those that started in Europeia and made a name for themselves! Europeia stands firm as one of the largest UCRs in all of NS and consists of a culture steeped heavily in politics. Europeia is the region of intellectual debates and long-winded political arguments. On top of that, you'll be sure to find good friends and a close-knit community.
Government: Europeia is a Republic with three branches of government. The legislative branch features an elected Senate, consisting of varying numbers of members. The region also boasts an active Citizens' Assembly, which is a fertile training ground for new members who are less established in writing regional legislation. The President and Vice President are elected every 70 days and their Cabinet is confirmed by the Senate. The judicial branch is made up of four Senate-confirmed Justices. We also have two Supreme Chancellors that act as the "First Citizen" holding mainly ceremonial and emergency powers.

Description: Gay currently contains 143 nations, the 73rd most in the world. Gay is an LBGTQ region, providing a safe haven for all LGBTQ persons on NS and welcoming of all open-minded people for civil discussion, strategizing for gay equality on NS and IRL, and friendships. As an ancient region founded in the very early days of NS, it consists of many experienced people from all walks of life, from straight allies to closeted teenagers to people who have been out for decades.
Government: Democracy with an elected delegate/founder, a two-housed legislature, and a Supreme Court; they discuss all matters of regional importance, including a new Constitution for 2014, which will be at least the third such in the history of Gay. Gay is a defender region with historic ties to the FRA and two delegates on the FRA's governing Regional Assembly.

Description: Philosophy 115 is a region devoted to the study and debate of all manners of philosophy; nothing is off-bounds, nothing is assumed. Secondarily, it is a platform for friendship, fellowship, fun, mutual support, advice, etc. We have traded ambassadors with several regions with whom (for the most part) we have a long history together and a great affinity for; for other compatible regions we swap embassies. We are a neutral region and generally try to avoid involvement with the R/D aspect of the game. We are mostly a serious region, although some minor RP is acceptable, such as accepting a plate of virtual muffins.
Government: Philosophy 115 is a Direct Democracy with all major decisions decided by majority vote on the RMB, with the exception of the selection of the WAD, who is elected directly by the endorsements of the WA nations in the region. The Founder, Dr George, handles routine administration, posts daily rankings based on the WA ranking of the day and is the official representative of the region.

Description: Founded back in the 26th of March 2014 and reformed in the 11th of August 2014, The Sovereign Charter is a role-playing region with it's objectives of: enhancing community cohesion, fostering role-play, supporting sovereign rights and developing member states. The region, unlike many other role-playing regions, is set 50 years in the future on an alternative universe with magic. The region is very new-comer friendly and would accept everyone who wishes to join. We try to avoid getting into the raid&defend games and focus mainly on the role-play aspects of the game. The region offers a friendly community to jump in and have a chat with whenever anyone would like.
Government: The Sovereign Charter is a participatory democracy ruled by councilors who sit in the Council of Rebirth, the legislative body of the region. The Prime Minister of the region represents the region as a whole and holds the executive powers of the region. underneath the prime minister are ministers who are appointed by the prime minister and aid him in his many tasks. Committees established by the Council of Rebirth are responsible for executing various tasks giving by the Council, each with a committee head to manage it.

Government: Taijitu is a direct democracy where all citizens act as legislators in the regional Ecclesia. In addition, there are four elected officials: the Citizen-Delegate, the executive; the Citizen-Initiator, responsible for approving citizens and the speaker of the legislature; the Citizen-Diplomat, responsible for foreign affairs; and the Citizen-Sergeant, the head of the Citizens' Militia.

The Coalition of Democratic Nations

Description: The Coalition of Democratic Nations commonly called CDN or CoDN, is an extremely-active region founded upon democratic principles, with a very large community of 200+ member nations. We hold a wide variety of activities including roleplaying, regional governance, a university, businesses, a regional map, a regional bank, an active military and a regularly published newspaper.
Government: The Government of the Coalition of Democratic Nations is vested in the three entities; The Cabinet, responsible for the overall administration of the Coalition and conducting foreign affairs; The Parliament, responsible for the enactment of legislation for the benefit of the region and its members; and, The Supreme Court, responsible for deciding cases brought before it by member nations. The Cabinet is led by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, supporting their leadership is the elected Parliament which provides legislation on governance of the region. The region is a multinational parliamentary region, with a Westminster system of unicameral parliamentary government.

Description: The CoG is an Roleplay centric region set in a consistent, permanently evolving universe that was established in 6/2/2012. A friendly, tightly knit community of role players welcomes anybody who enjoys RPing, from experts to those willing to learn. Largely set on the planet 'Lerodas', in a tech level we are post modern tech, a regularly updated map and complex geo-political history make for a constantly changing environment with plenty of opportunities for RPing - From diplomacy to sports to war. Outside of the RPing environment, the CoG is host to a frequently used free instant messaging room for fellow players and discussing IC/OOC events.. As a roleplay focused region, the CoG stays away from WA related issues as well as the Raider/Defender side of the game.
Government: Benevolent Admin-tatorship. The CoG is run a set of three (permanent) admins, long time residents known and trusted to uphold the values of the community as a whole, and establish changes to lore, tech, etc, while ensuring the community continues to run smoothly. The Admins' decision on topics is final, but they often take votes and suggestions from their fellow active Roleplayers.

Description: The Communist Bloc (TCB) is the largest socialist/communist themed UCR in NationStates. We are a region that believes deeply in building an inclusive and tolerant collectivist culture within our borders. Unlike most other large socialist & communist regions, TCB is open to all ideologies and welcomes all points of view as long as members remain respectful.
Government: TCB is a multi-party Presidential republic. We have an open legislative branch known as the People's Democratic Assembly and a appointed & elected judicial branch, the People's Court. Most power is put into the hands of citizens, all of which can take part in the People's Democratic Assembly, and the Dear Leader (President). Elections are held nearly every month and all citizens have the right to participate.

Government: The Other Reality is run with strong democratic principles. We elect our own members into office; available offices are: WA Delegate, President, Vice-president, and Chief Justice. Election times vary depending on the office and according to the constitution.
The Peoples Federation of Qandaristan (PFG)

Description: PFQ is a region whom is a large one, consisting of 84 nations. The PFQ's recruitment is rapid, fast and effiecent. It's mostly known for it's huge important RP culture, it's famous and somewhat steriotypial PFQBalls (a variant of Polandball, but is about PFQ and it's surrounding regions) and for their great leader. They got an established map, a great ideology, the biggest pride of whole NS and the best RPers!
Government: The government consists of some councilmen, ministers, Great WA Delegate and Great Wise Leader. All ideologies are mixed together, with ideologies being put in where they really are deemed as the best solution. It's democratic and next governmental elections will be held in December 2014.
