That statement would be all well and good if there wasn't already a much better Guide to Military Gameplay.

I conclude with my comrades on the Imperialist side of the spectrum, that I've said much more than this guide has and in many less words. :P

That's still an outstanding guide. I thought it was exceptional when it first came out. My point was that there's little sense in "You suck!" flavored posts if people aren't willing to step up. All that's required is a link.

And, amazingly enough, that guide is actually linked in this one....

To understand the advanced concepts in this guide, you must first create a strong foundation of basic fundamentals. The best source for establishing this is this thread. If you are new to Raiding/Defending, you may want to read the entire thread. However, if you know how delegates are elected, how regional influence works, etc., please skip to "Part V, Tactics".
Please read the thread carefully before proceeding.

This is merely a general foundation. It is open to discussion. If you have a better opinion, share it, and I may edit it in.

Sooooo, just because you have been in numerous regions and organization you have authority on this subjects?

I. If you are a Founder or Delegate, create a regional puppet storage. If you are a member of a region, locate your puppet storage facility.
II. Create 10 puppets, with your main nation's flag (for high ranking officials), or the region's flag (for lower ranking members). All 10 puppets should have the same email address (a new, throwaway email address is suggested). It is also recommended that you block recruitment telegrams and all issues on these puppets, but this does not affect results in any way.

You're not a raider, you're like my old friend "a obvious spy",but then without the comedic effect

Do you seriously think puppets with TBH,TBR,TEK or any other flags wont be spotted right away?

The Eternal Knights also use a third method, designed by me myself, called "stealth switching". This is a difficult but powerful technique that combines elements of both of the above methods, as well as weeks of preparation, into one powerful method that can be used to fully seize several regions in an update, regardless of size, and gain access to Border Controls at the same time. We plan on using it to destroy regions permanently, but have not perfected it yet to standardize it and record it in this document, and is therefore currently classified.

Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

Step by step training can't effectively be taught from a guide written by someone who barely knows what they themselves are doing. It should be taught at update by people with experience and an in depth knowledge of the sub-game.

My goal is to help the smaller regions that want to have a military, but can't. You can't just foolishly assume what my intentions are based on a completely irrelevant topic. Furthermore, My region has nothing to do with this, this is my own project.

If you can do better, then please do. My goal is to help people before they fall to the UDL or TBR, so showing me up by making a better guide just helps me further advance towards this goal. The telegram stamps are simply encouragement to help build up the forces of small regions.

Useless attacks, on the other hand, don't accomplish anything for anyone.

Seeing as how the Pipes tool I devised for gathering update times got such a poor review:
SkyDip wrote:The fact that you are linking to a Red Fleet pipes application to find out when regions update is just too much. I had to stop.

and is apparently so useless I thought I would share how a pro raider does it:

Venico wrote:Man(y) people have written up guides to this. And here I'll go again!

1) Create a nation! Now this may seem obvious but you need to do it. If you want to do a sneaky raid and hope to fly under the radar, this has to look as normal as possible.
2) Decide your target! Choose where you would like to raid and also find out when it updates. There are a few more advanced tools to do this but the easiest way is to check to see if any of the nations have answered issues in the region(1). Find out what time the the issue turned and bingo! You know when the region updates and the time you need to get in by (may vary which is why triggers are nice but we'll cover that later...maybe)
3) Move your nation! Put your nation in a region that updates LATER (can also figure this out via the daily dump) than what your target does. Again you want your movements to look as normal as possible to look through some of your recruitment telegrams and see if any of those regions update later. This may make it look more normal.
4)Organize! Set the time of the raid (major or minor update? Day of the week?) and get this out to your troops, make sure their nations are clean and the like. Also make sure you all have an interface to be on during the raid, (Skype, Yahoo? Is Yahoo still a thing? Just use Skype) and get everyone logged on and have each other's contacts.
5) Check! Make sure you will have enough endorsements (Remember you have a point and then troops. So if 6 troops enter a region, there will only be 5 endorsements on the lead) that you can overtake the current delegate. You need one more than s/he has.
6) Optional, kind of, Trigger! You're going to go look in the daily dump(2). Find the nations of the region you are looking to raid and you're going to have to count back nations from there. Each nation takes .031 seconds to update so a 15 second trigger would take 484 nations back. Put the trigger nation in that region and remember how long you have. You're going to set up this trigger to answer an issue. Once you see the issue take effect during update, you now have the amount of seconds you determined before, until your target region updates.
7) Wait for your trigger or your estimated time! Have your troops all ready in chat, with their mouses hovering over the move nation to region button and if you're not pre endorsing (pre endorsing is more obvious to defenders and thus can be avoided if you want to be stealthy) a page open to the lead nation who will be taking the delegacy. Once you see your trigger update, or the time approaching...
8 ) GO! Give the go command and move in! Take the region!
9) (if you didn't pre endorse) Endorse! Endorse who you want to be taking the lead.
10) Wait until the region updates. The easiest way to tell this is to answer an issue before the raid. So when the issue takes effect, you updated!
11) Check...again! Are you still waiting to update? Well you probably missed or got your time wrong and went in a minute early. Best option here is to wait. Did you update but you're not delegate?! Well then you didn't get enough endorsements in on time. Are you Delegate?! Well put up a new WFE, close embassies, set one up with your region, post on the RMB and in the gameplay forums! Yeah.
12) Celebrate! Even if you missed, good job for trying and you'll get better next time. Every person's first raid conducted by themselves is a shit show. But you get better.

This has been Raiding with Venico! Also I always suggest triggering. It's much more accurate than guessing on variables. Any questions, contact me. *tips hat* 8)

Raiding region 300? Put your trigger in region #278 and station your WA in any region #301 +

I would love to be able to predict the exact time of a regions update to a tenth of a second and share with you how to do it, but without access to the "more advanced tools" alluded to I'm afraid this is the best I can do. Even NS++ cannot provide more accurate times and Afforness is much more adept at code than I!

Perhaps Skydip would care to share with the class his oh so superior method of determining update times?

The "tools" were never meant to do the job of raiding/defending for you (where's the fun in that?) merely to reduce the tedious process of data gathering - to filter it if you like.

How that data is interpreted and used is up to the recipient

Still you now have the Big Boys way of doing it so there should be no excuses right

PS Dada nouveau may or may not be an Osirian sleeper
