A true Lazarene Patriot and hero of defenders has departed. DYP truly deserves his place in the Garden of the People's Vanguards.

Breaking: People's Hero Steps Down!
Milograd Announces Impending Resignation from Chairmanship

The proletariat of the world wept both forlorn and joyous tears today as Milograd announced that he will soon be stepping down from the Delegacy and Chairmanship of the People's Republic of Lazarus. This comes on the heels of the retirement of longtime Lazarene General, and another hero of the revolution, Drop Your Pants, though unlike the fluffy sheep Milograd intends to remain active in the region.

Milograd's nearly four month reign as Chairman, which has seen an unprecedented level of prosperity for a region long plagued by poverty and backwardsness, felt as if it would last forever, but earlier today he stunned the world when he announced that in the coming weeks he would be stepping down from the role.

From iron production, to birth rate, to a newfound role as a major military force, Milograd has propelled Lazarus to heights unimaginable. Though the contributions of the regions many active citizens, from the refugees of Khora to pre-revolutionary citizens, have been the frame of the mighty ship that is our region, Milograd has valiantly served as the propeller. Reports from across the region indicate that a spontaneous celebration of Milograd's career, and simultaneous somber reflection that he must depart, has broken out. "I have a calculus assignment due in two hours, but this is more important," quoted one Lazarene Gazette reporter and governor who shall remain unnamed.

Rather than directly exercise his constitutional right to appoint his successor, Milograd has elected to carry out a closed election between three long-serving patriots of the region. Stujenske, who served in the days of the old regime and who has been a longtime congressman, Kazmr, the Governor of Information and along with Stu one of the last serving members of the old government, and Hobbes, First Tiger and recently appointed General of the LLA, will face a unique election. In contrast to most other GCRs, Milograd has opted to disallow any sort of open campaigning or platforms, stating that: "In my time on NS, I have only seen campaigns as a contest to see who writes the best essays and makes the best false promises in sugary coatings of verbose language, rather than as a way to gauge merit and honesty." He made it clear that all three candidates are well known in the region and that citizens should make their decisions based on what they have seen from them rather than from any heat-of-the-moment campaign promises.

Milograd has indicated that he will continue to hold the position of Chairman until a successor is elected, but in order to help get his future role in the Lazarene Liberation Army off the ground, he has chosen to appoint Stujenski as temporary regent until that time to hold the delegacy. That change will go into effect later tonight.

We leave this report with a short selection of Milograd's first speech upon entering office, and must remark on how true they have become:

"I expect that this will be an interesting time for us to say the least, and, if you and I make it so, this can be an exceptionally successful era for Lazarus."

Picking the candidates, and forbidding campaigning. I love the smell of Lazarene democracy in the morning. Smells like...Fakon.
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.
