The Devoted Comrade is a new PNN segment where we interview members of The Pacific. Outsiders are used to hearing about Krull, the Senate, and Milograd, but there is so much more to The Pacific than simply that, and they are hardly the region's only characters. Today, we interviewed one of the NPO's newer members, West Dhaka.

• 1. What does TP mean to you?

What The Pacific means to me is really stability in a GCR & a form of government unparalleled in Nationstates with its system of meritocracy. It also represents tradition and what I'd call "the good old days" of NS through its historic involvement in things such as the ADN Proxy War, as well as the history and lore associated with its founder, Francos Spain.

• 2. What brought you to TP?

I was interested in how the meritocracy system worked and I figured I would have a whirl at it, as I'm fairly experienced in NS, something you'd hope for after playing for 5 years. Also after talking with Karpathos & to a lesser extent Milograd on Mordor's IRC, I felt like this region could be a region I could successfully be a part of.

• 3. If you could give one piece of advice to new or prospective citizens about becoming involved in TP what would it be?

Jump in with both feet first. You'll gain a lot of respect here this way, and it will pay off faster than you would think, actually. This is something I've learned quite well over these past few days.

• 4. What's one role or area in TP that you aspire to contribute to?

Culture. Its an area I'm experienced with, through the stuff I did with it in The Kodiak Republic and this region historically, was a bastion of culture. Right now, this is lacking however, so its a bit of a mission of mine to start a "Pacifican Cultural Renaissance" and revive that old status.

• 5. Please give us your initial thoughts on TP as a new citizen?

I like The Pacific. Its different than any other region I've experienced, and is also the only GCR I've ever been a part of. The people here are also quite friendly, even if certain regions will say otherwise.

• 6. What surprised you most as a new citizen of TP?

What surprised me most was that if you wanted to do something here, as long as you had a good idea, the government would be happy to help you. The lack of bureaucracy here is refreshing, and its something I'll take note of when I'm governing in other region(s).

• 7. What are your thoughts on the governance of TP? How does it differ from other regions you're apart of?

The governance is good, as although we are an autocracy, we're a benevolent one at that. Having been in regions such as The Kodiak Republic, which were grounded in democracy, I feel The Senate is more responsive to people's needs than they ever were in TKR, or other democratic regions I've been to. In terms of how it differs, the biggest thing is the meritocracy. It is a unique system, and I feel its part of the reason the NPO has had 0 coups in its 10 year history.

• 8. You have the floor, West Dhaka, any final remarks?

If you're a citizen, Senator, or anyone really, please get involved in the culture here. There's going to be a lot of cool stuff going on these next few weeks, whether it be the anniversary and some other projects I'm in the midst of planning. However they can only be successful if people are willing to be involved.

Sitting at the head of this group of people who flagrantly deny reality & what they constitutes a “Legion of Doom”, even though a better term would a “Legion of Failures” is the puppet master himself, Ballotonia, whose most famous NS action, and according to the World Assembly Security Council, the "commendable" act of repeatedly sending over 125 puppets into The Pacific in an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of The NPO, which failed every single time.

In order to fill those unfamiliar with the history of these shady characters, these class enemies and counter-revolutionaries are desperate to impose the Userite exploitation on The Pacific, and after having failed numerous times they decided to try and become Game administrators & forum moderators. But rather than working for it, they instead tried something else. Pacifican Intelligence services caught Ballotonia & friends making a deal with the devil herself, [violet], who poses as Max Barry. In a secret compact written in blood, [violet] told Ballotonia & the former members of these atrocious groups such as the ADN & the Pacific Army they may oppress the members of The Pacific on the NS forums. And hence the group "Ballotonia & Friends" was formed.

With the recent return of Francos Spain, this policy has been put in full force. It was widely reported that members of the “Ballotonia & Friends” quite literally shat themselves, knowing that the second coming of Francos Spain would constitute an end to the Userite imperialism that had been plaguing the NS world. Trying to destroy Francos Spain in the Userite infested region of Balder was a massive failure, with Francos Spain single-handedly destroying the Userite hordes infecting Balder. So the mods in their official capacities tried to prevent any news of Francos Spain or discussion of him from being proliferated on the NS forums. However supposed sponsors of NPO terrorism such as Karpathos were seen as infecting the minds of the userites with the talk of Francos Spain, and have been brutally threatened & harassed numerous times by mods both on and off the forums.

Citizens of The Pacific gather in horror to see the monster "Ballotonia & Friends" have released, Cthulu

Pacifican Intelligence Services are now warning citizens of The Pacific that the next tactic of “Ballotonia and Friends” is to summon the Dark Lord Cthulu, having given up on various griefing tactics they were supposed to not allow. Will this last fight with the mods spell out the apocalypse of NS? Will they DEAT Karpathos and Francos Spain? We shall only see…

There used to be a time when the NPO news feed would be clever about their propaganda articles. Based on truth, but with just enough of a twist to alter perception, and not enough of a twist to make arguing against it easy. I remember those articles were frustrating to deal with. This one though is just disappointingly shoddy. A simple click on Ballotonia's commendation reveals that the above claim made by the NPO is pure bullocks. Shoddy tabloid journalism, and a disappointment, really. The NPO is not what it used to be. Maybe Francos can now give you some pointers on how it is done?

But kudos on finding out [violet]'s true identity. For that you will have to be fed to Cthulhu (note proper spelling)

One must realize the article was intended as a joke, not as propaganda. That's what we use tabloids for now a days. To provide a humorous commentary about things we see going on in NS. If you want to see propaganda, take a look at the interviews, and some of the other articles we've written, or will write, like the one regarding TP's cultural celebration for its 10th anniversary, or the return of Francos Spain. That constitutes "propaganda". This on the other hand, is just a joke. It was intended to be shoddy, because the whole construction of the article plays into the fact we're having a little bit of fun.
