Osiran Embassy

Welcome to The Osirian Empire!

Current Government
Pharaoh: Lyanna Stark
Kai Repat: Biyah
Sepatarchy: Quadrimmina (Spokesperson), Bridgemarsh, Lemon Love, Mahaj, Cora
Great Kenbet: Zaolat (Chief), Hileville, The Direwolves
Council of Ma'at: New Kervoskia (High Priest), Oliver, Goobergunch

Some Fun Facts!
Osiris is a Game-Created Region, known as a Sinker. (What the heck is a game-created region?)
A game-created region is a region that lacks a founder and was invented by the NationStates administrators. A Sinker specifically, is a region where nations that ‘cease to exist’ are refounded. This means that Osiris doesn’t have to recruit to keep new members coming in and has an important part in gameplay already. It also means that our Delegate is the Head of State, holding high responsibility for the region’s security.

So, why Osiris?
Osiris boasts an active community on our Regional Message Board, Forums and IRC channel made up of members from all corners of Nationstates. Defenders, Raiders, Roleplayers, WA regulars and all other players are welcomed as part of the region and are all treated equally. Whatever your interest there’s something here for you, and if not then why not speak to one of the Admins or Government about getting something setup?

So, why not Lazarus? Where’d Osiris come from?
Lazarus is the oldest of the Sinkers, but was joined by Osiris and Balder on October 19, 2011 due to Lazarus getting to be too big. The formal announcement on that can be seen here.

At the beginning, there was chaos. New forces came in while nations were revived and different forces vied for power. TITO, from XKI, took control of Osiris first, but held democratic elections where our first delegate, Zaolat, was elected. A Constitutional Convention took place, with the Book of the Dead being created.

What is the Book of the Dead?
The Book of the Dead is our Constitution. It is the law of the land that sets up and details our government. It creates the position of Pharaoh, as head of the executive and World Assembly Delegate. It also creates the Kai Repat, as the second in command of the executive, Head of the Sepatarchy and Vice Delegate.

The Pharaoh works with her own set of Viziers, or Council. They specialize in whatever the Pharaoh asks for, and serve at her pleasure. They currently include Biyah (Security and Intelligence), Bridgemarsh (Orientation), The Direwolves (Culture and Sobek of the Guard), Quadrimmina (Culture), Todd McCloud (Citizenship), and Eluvatar (Attorney General).

It creates the Sepatarchy, the legislative branch of Osiris which allows for legal changes to be made and for legal policy to be set. The Sepatarchy has five members currently, but that number is set by the Council of Ma’at.

The Great Kenbet is the judiciary branch of Osiris. Cases may be brought in front of the Great Kenbet if the law is broken, or the law may be challenged in front of the three Justices.

The Council of Ma’at is the security council and general overseers of the region. They are not allowed to get involved in politics and stand for the security and safety of the region, overseeing elections and working as an appeals court.

The Book of the Dead in full can be seen here.

So what is there to do?
Well, first off-get involved in the government! We have Junior Viziers that can get involved immediately in different branches of the government. It’s a great way to learn and gain experience. Also, we regularly hold elections for the Pharaoh, Kenbet, and the Sepatarchy. All citizens are welcome to run in these elections!

The forum is bursting with culture. We’ve got games, roleplay, fun discussions, and more. Whether you’re a big government fan or just around for shits and giggles, we’ve got things for you. We’re open to new discussions, debates, and fun. In the past we’ve had chess tournaments, Diplomacy, and fun and silly polls! We’ve also gotten together with SkypeNites, where Osiris Citizens real-time chat with each other.

Our IRC channel can be located here. An IRC channel is where members of Osiris and the world meet to chat in real-time and just have some fun together. On our IRC channel we have fun debates, games like PUNishment, Trivia Competitions, Mock the Week, and NS`CrossFire with Biyah and Dali (a silly back and forth debate). We’re also one of the only regions to host a music server called Gateway Radio; Osiris members can stream their music as ‘DJ’s’ to other NationStates players, or just tune in and listen to the music of other players. We’re also working on having news shows, where hosts can discuss nationstates or RL things as well!

Military?
Osiris is firmly neutral, but has an active military called the Medjai Guard. Most people when they hear ‘neutral’ think of regions that only hit Warzones and defend themselves and their allies. Osiris is not like that. Yes, we do Warzone missions and defend ourselves and our allies, but we also get involved in the international world in other ways. While we are neither raiders nor defenders, we do what we want for fun without breaking our neutrality. We do both, under our own terms, and have fun with it. The Medjai Guard is open to all citizens and ran by the Sobek. Currently, the Sobek is The Direwolves.

Foreign Affairs?
As a large region with a heavy WA-base endorsing the Delegate, we have a strong vote in the World Assembly. The Delegate votes the way a public vote of the citizens on the forum swings regarding World Assembly Affairs. We approve of many proposals if they are well-written and we feel that they deserve a chance at a vote. We also have many active Osiris citizens that are highly involved in the World Assembly that can comment or help out others!

In foreign affairs, Osiris currently holds treaties with The South Pacific, The North Pacific and is a member of the Pan-Sinker Security Act (a treaty between Osiris, The Rejected Realms, Lazarus, and Balder). We accept in-game embassies with regions that Osiris holds close ties to, or is treatied with only. The quickest way to get an in-game embassy or closer ties with Osiris is to apply for an embassy on our forum; this can be done here.

Osiris also sends out a Foreign Update called the Osiris Papyrus to its embassies. From now on, we shall be posting those updates here. All past updates can be seen below:

Announcement from the Pharaoh - The Empire Rises.

It is official, Osiris is now known as The Osirian Empire. Read the announcement by our beloved Empress!
It is my privilege to announce some changes that are coming to the region of Osiris today. With the Council in support, I hereby announce that we are now known as The Osirian Empire. I, Empress Elizabeth of The Empire, have chosen Osiris to be My seat of power in the Nationstates World; let all rejoice!

With our change of name, I am also announcing that our region will be taking a glorious new path into the international world. We will be expanding our sphere of influence, and entering the international community as a diplomatic and military force to be respected. We do not need to stay within the borders of Osiris in order to be a neutral region, we can (and will) take part in world affairs. We will respond to world events from a viewpoint untainted by the dogma of the defender/raider ideology. Our diplomats, and the Medjai Guard, will receive their new orders accordingly.

Let me be clear, however. The government of Osiris will not change, we are not replacing the Book of the Dead; this is a name change and RP overlay. We are making this change with every respect to the laws of our home, as a new aspect to the government. If we find that specific changes need to be made, they will be passed as any law or amendment would--democratically. We will remain neutral, far from the flawed ideologies of both extreme sides.

A new day is dawning. I hereby decree a week of celebratory RMB games, IRC fun, a masque, and more!

-Lyanna Stark/Elizabeth, Pharaoh of Osiris & Empress of the Empire

Kai Repat

An hour after our current Kai Repat, Dalimbar, was recalled with an unanimous vote by the Sepatarchy and consent from the Pharoah for his inactivity. Dalimbar resigned due to RL time constraints. The region of Osiris wishes him well and good luck in all his future endeavors!

Pharaoh Lyanna Stark appointed Biyah, the Spokesman of the Sepatarchy, to the position of Kai Repat. All wished their congratulations to the new appointee, who has already gained enough endorsements to be second in the region.

Sepatarchy

Josha departed from the Sepatarchy suddenly leaving a vacancy and a special election was held. Our former Kai Repat, Mahaj, ran for the position unopposed and won.

Then, with the vacant seat open from Biyah’s ascendancy to the Kai Repat position, another election was opened. This time Cora ran unopposed, taking the seat. Congratulations to both Cora and Mahaj!

With the Speaker of the Sepatarchy seat vacant as well, Quadrimmina was appointed for the seat and won after approval by the Pharaoh. Congratulations to Quadrimmina!

The Sepatarchy has been busy as of late! It passed a law that no Osirian government official may hold two positions (Pharaoh, Kai Repat, Sepatarchy, or Kenbet) simultaneously. This ensures for separation of powers through the different branches of government.

The Sepatarchy also unanimously voted to amend a section of The Book of Dead that states a veto from the pharaoh can be overturned by a 2/3 vote of the Sepatarchy. The amendment makes it so a veto can only be overturned by unanimous vote from the Sepatarchy, due to the previous law making the veto ineffective. The amendment went to referendum and passed.

Lastly; the Sepatarchy has passed a complete revision, using the Sunshine laws, to update the entire Book of the Dead and the Osirian Legal Code. The original Book of the Dead has been archived for future study, and a new living document has been created, which will be updated on a regular basis, for ease-of-viewing.

Council of Ma'at

The Conflict of Interest Disclosure for all citizens was updated asking for more information about one’s past in Nationstates. Much discussion occurred with some citizens voicing their opinion. The Council of Ma’at decided that the updated disclosure is a “violation of their independence and is an undue hindrance to citizenship”, and so citizens will only be asked to disclose certain information if the government finds him/her to be a threat to regional security.

The Council of Ma’at, at the Vizier of Security’s request, also placed a temporary ban on Tim receiving citizenship, until a new trial can be organized under better conditions.

Osiris vs Tim

The Trial of Osiris VS Tim has officially been dissolved. The reasons were generally pointed to the length of the trial, and the fact that both Prosecution and Defense were unable to continue their trial duties due to summertime responsibilities. The official ruling of the Great Kenbet was: Not Proven.

The Direwolves stated in drafting this update, “With this verdict the Great Kenbet expresses two things. One: Its displeasure with both sides for not following anything resembling a speedy time-table, and two: its belief in Tim's guilt.

This is not a verdict of Not Guilty, although Tim is acquitted of all charges. The Not Proven verdict is being used because whilst we believe Tim is guilty, the lack of an actual prosecution didn't allow us, in good faith, to find him guilty.”

This issue is available for retrial at a later date.

Integration

A new temple has been opened to assist new members within Osiris. The goal of the Temple of Bes is to recruit current Osirian citizens to act as guides within the forum and IRC for new members to help them get integrated within the region. A lot of progress has already occurred with work to send welcoming messages to new members on the forum and the creation of the Junior Vizier position. Led by Bridgemarsh, Junior Viziers are being recruited to assist some of the current viziers in their duties. Current openings include Foreign Affairs, Culture and Security.

Military Arms

The Medjai Guard camped out in Warzone Sandbox for over a month before storming into Warzone Europe to take control. New promotions were handed out to loyal Medjai members.
Following the successful operation, Mostly Armless, trueatfirstlight, Kogvuron and Ravania were promoted to the second rank of the Medjai Guard, becoming Silihdars. Diamete was further promoted to the rank of Sanjaqi, for taking part in both Medjai Guard missions.

Ravania and Kogvuron were both granted honorary titles. Ravania became Amir Majlis, Guardian of the Pharaoh's seat and bed, for providing a home to Medjai Guard in the form of Skala. Kogvuron is granted the title of Qussad, for providing the Medjai Guard with information on possible missions, and organising most of the co-operation between five different regional militia's during the Guard's first operation.
With the new directives from the Pharaoh, we expect great new things for the Medjai Guard before our next update. See you on the battlefield!

Culture

Priest Oliver has started a new game of Diplomacy, an online game of alliances and fun for Osiris members to try to gain power in.
Diplomacy is a board game which, being turn-based, translates relatively well over into online play. It is a game like no other; there are no random elements except for the players themselves. Players must negotiate, but with no mechanism to enforce honesty, who can be certain of any allegiance? No player can survive without interacting with the others, but ultimately only one player can win.
~Oliver

Lots of fun has been had in this competitive game! If you’d like to join, multiple games may be opened if interest is shown. It only takes 10-15 minutes a turn!

Also there has been an interest in re-starting PUNishment! The Game Show. Culture Ministers Quadrimmina and The Direwolves have been active in preparing fun new things for the region on the forum, IRC, and on the RMB!

Believe It Or Not

Who Built the Pyramids?
Egyptologists and historians have long debated the question of who built the Pyramids, and how. Standing at the base of the Pyramids at Giza it is hard to believe that any of these enormous monuments could have been built in one pharaoh's lifetime. Yet scholars think they were built over mere decades for three pharaohs who were father, son, and grandson (Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure).

It is, but the regional government and RRA operate independently. They're both part of the region though.

Nice embassy, and not overloaded with images - I like it.

Osiris Announcement on the Delegacy of The North Pacific

Postby the Imperial Crown » Fri Nov 23, 2012 1:29 am

Image

The Department of Foreign and Diplomatic Affairs of the Empire of Osiris hereby declares its recognition of McMasterdonia as Delegate of The North Pacific.

We believe that McMasterdonia is a beacon of how NationStates players should be, one who works within the system of the regions to improve the experience for all citizens while at the same time, keeping a conscious eye on matters which could influence a region from external sources.

We firmly believe and agree with the assessment that McMasterdonia is innocent of any wrong-doing, and that any wrongdoing is the fault of Error on behalf of the staff. We do not consider anyone to be specifically at fault for this blunder.

We are pleased to see that the error is being rectified and that the Delegate of The North Pacific, McMasterdonia will be restored to his rightful and elected place as Delegate.

We thank the Game Staff for prompt realisation of the error and their wishes to make amends and for their wish to do the right thing and put everything to rights.

Signed, on behalf of the Region of Osiris, it's Government and Emperor,

Lord Ravenclaw
Vizier of Foreign and Diplomatic Affairs, Osiris.

THE MEDJAI GUARD
Sexy Neutrals with Guns!

In the last week alone, the Medjai Guard has been quite active.

We started out the week with an assist, defending Anarchy with FRA, UDL, and TITO forces. We didn't stop long, though, for in that same update we went and snatched a pretty Warzone with our friends from the NPA!
Image

We stopped there for a bit before quickly moving on to raid Persian Empire, an old griefer region and a region that fits rather well as an enemy with our pretty Egyptian theme and all. Our chariots flew across the desert, conquering the Persian Empire in one quick sweep.
Image

Next, the Medjai flew over the NS-verse, capturing all that is magickal in Magicka. We have laid low their fake magic lakes and house props, destroyed all their harpy and witch costumes. Biyah also arranged to have their fair replica of Hogwarts transported to Osiris brick by brick, to be the center-piece of our new War Memorial. They will never again pretend to be magical!
Image

And this past update, with a great show of Sinker Unity, we liberated Outer Heaven from The Fog with our friends from the RRA and a few non-allied friends. The Fog has been cleared, folks, and it's easy to see that the Medjai takes the day.

Hail Osiris! Hail Pharaoh Mad Jack! May Osiris stand proud forever!

Want to be as smexy as we are? Want to kick some butt at update and do what you want? Join Osiris today, and apply to join the elite fighting force guarding the Pharaoh, the Medjai Guard!

The Coup of Osiris

Postby the Imperial Crown » Sat Dec 29, 2012 12:08 pm

Image
[big]Regarding the Coup of Osiris
Released:
December 29th, 2012

Yesterday evening, the Democratically Elected Delegate of Osiris was banned from the region in a coup orchestrated by members of the highest echelons of the government.

In a twist that could not be foreseen by a Seer of any magnitude, the defender organisation, The United Defenders League was manipulated into supporting several high-level traitors who had rallied against the elected delegate and vice delegate in a never before seen scale of horror for that region.

This entire situation started off as a motion to "deter" an invasion, which we now know to be a staged, mock, invasion which was designed for these traitors to seize power within Osiris and expel the elected delegate and his vice.

In belief that the government of Osiris would be stronger to fight against invaders, the cabinet members who were available (under half of the total number) were convinced by the Spokesperson of the Sepatarchy, Biyah, that the higher regional influence of Neo Kervoskia would be more effective against the invaders (who is quoted in the records as saying that they must be trying to frame Neo Kervoskia in order to cause Chaos in the region), and thus agreed to swap the endorsements from Mad Jack to Neo Kervoskia in order to ban/eject the “invaders”. The United Defenders League was notified, alongside the North Pacific Army and asked to assist with the defence of Osiris with the belief that the Priest of Ma’at would be more effective against the invaders on a temporary basis.

Unfortunately, once the exchange of power had occurred, it become obvious to the Government that they had been duped, and along with them, their allies as well. The support of The United Defenders League pushed Neo Kervoskia firmly into power giving him unparalleled power in the region at that point, besides anyone but the former Delegate, Lyanna Stark, who still retains the highest influence and regional power. With Lyanna Stark being away at the time being and unable to rally a defence as Sobek of the Medjai, Osiris managed to lose control of its Delegacy to the Empire.

It became obvious in cabinet when several members of the channel, changed their names to reflect "Imperial" titles, such as Biyah readopting his name, "Rahl", as well as Lord Griffin and Lady Anastasia making a reappearance to proclaim that they now ruled Osiris.

This coup was so effective because the Council of Ma'at, the very council which is meant to protect Osiris from these attacks was ineffective. Two of its number turned on the region as well as the traitors in the Legislative House, also known as The Sepatarchy. Both the Pharaoh (The Direwolves/Mad Jack) and the High Priest Zaolat were unavailable to try and cease the action once it started and Neo Kervoskia, a Priest of Ma'at,) with assistance from Priest-elect Dalimbar seized control in a Trojan Horse style betrayal of the very region which relied on them to protect them from such events.

Unfortunately, for Osiris, the night would get worse as the Speaker of the Sepatarchy, Biyah, who is the former Kai-Repat and Vizier (Minister/Advisor) of Security, along with Minineenee. a member of the Sepatarchy declared their allegiance to be with the traitorous priests.

At the time of writing, Neo Kervoskia has resigned from the Delegacy and unbanned the Pharaoh and Kai-Repat. We will keep everyone informed as the situation progresses further and how the transition of power back to the rightful Delegate and Vice Delegate progresses.

Since the announcement that Neo Kervoskia was wiling to return control of the region to the elected delegate, the following Telegram has been circulating Osiris "informing" citizens that The Direwolves was ejected from the region on several charges... as shown in the following image urging them to support Dalimbar in a ploy to prevent the elected delegate from returning to power. These charges are false.

We urge ALL World Assembly Members to Endorse Mad Jack, and withdraw any Endorsements from Dalimbar.

Finally, the Pharaoh, Kai-Repat and Cabinet of Osiris would like to thank The North Pacific Army, the Government of Taijitu and The United Defenders League, as well as every other region and organisation for their support thus far, and will update more when the transfer/restoration has officially completed. Information is currently scattered, and once everything is back to normal, a proper accounting and message of gratitude will be published.

On behalf of the Government of Osiris,

HAIL MAD JACK! HAIL OSIRIS!

Is there any word on how it occurred that Mad Jack missed the delegacy by a mere second, even though NK was 8 hours inactive?

It seems that we would not be having any of these issues if the trigger was placed properly.

I left it late because I thought NK might get active. Elu placed the trigger, and seemed most concerned that his estimate so far off the actual times. It may be that variance effected the trigger but nonetheless I don't blame him. I myself was distracted and saw the move order late, only my irc clients notification system alerted me to it.

I refused to accept the apology Eluvatar offered me because I don't feel I need one from him. The fault is my own. I didn't look at the situation levelheadedly, seeing an intention by NK and others to lure me into moving early only to banject me again when there wasn't one there. I imagine NK was sleeping soundly at the time, and good for him for doing so.

Because I feel a need to sum up a two paragraph post, basically, human error, possible variance.

Balder stands with you during this difficult time and any help you require we will be happy to provide. I've asked the War Minister to order the Jomsvikings in to support you so hopefully that will be of some help :)

Likewise, the South Pacific supports you and I approved the motion to send SPA assets into Osiris to assist Mad Jack. Good luck.

The trigger is, of course, only as "messed up" as the person setting it. I believed it was UDL that set it because you were endorsing Mad Jack in his region at the time. I questioned it, not because I really want to pin blame on the bad trigger setting, but rather because I suspected (incorrectly as it is now revealed) that it was Tim-Opolis who set it. This would have been important given the striking similarity between the liberation attempt in EID that he was commanding with his trigger and this poor effort here. In EID the invader delegate was 23 hours inactive, here they were 8 hours inactive and had resigned from the WA. There was ample time to move in before Osiris updated and UDL yet again tried, failingly, to move in with the clock as close to 0 hour as possible. My apologies to Elu, I know he can set a good trigger, but once again UDL command have shown that they are not competent to lead this sort of exercise.

This is seemingly contradictory to Mahaj's post above. Was the trigger too close and "messed up" or was the alert missed by the lead (of all people)? Either way, really, if the UDL IRC arena is as much of a mad house as I've heard it is from multiple sources, then reading your comment hardly surprises me.

EDIT: Half of this is only a response to a rather angry telegram I received from unnamed individual. I don't really want to take away from the importance that is the situation in Osiris, but this UDL circus has to stop sometime, surely.

Are you calling Eluvatar "messed up"? You really want to go there?

There is zero relation between EID and osiris.
In EID the invader delegate was 23 hours inactive, here they were 8 hours inactive and had resigned from the WA. There was ample time to move in before Osiris updated and UDL yet again tried, failingly, to move in with the clock as close to 0 hour as possible.

Because we couldn't know for sure that he was indeed offline, the possibility remained that he was online. Your failure to consider all possibilities, instead jumping for the first possible one, casts doubt upon your ability to lead.

My apologies to Elu, I know he can set a good trigger, but once again UDL command have shown that they are not competent to lead this sort of exercise.

From a member of an organization which has never wound up in a situation where a trigger would have been useful.

The mission was conducted over query, so your digs at the UDL IRC channel are laughable.

This "circus" can stop when people like you stop blaming the UDL for things where the UDL is not at any fault.

He's from TITO, they probably haven't come out of their hole long enough to know that there is such a thing. They'd rather sit on the sidelines and taunt everyone else who isn't part of their glorious master race.

A GCR is being couped and the only thing Eist has to say is that the UDL are full of incompetents who can't defend like glorious TITO (wait, do they even still do that?)

Statement from the Cabinet of the South Pacific
in regards to the Coup of Osiris

Having observed the shocking actions of senior members of the Government of Osiris, and their blatant disregard both for the laws of the region and their fellow citizens, The Collation of The South Pacific utterly and unequivocally condemns those responsible. The security and integrity of any region must be held sacrosanct, and the fact that those responsible had sworn to uphold both makes their betrayal even more complete.

The Coalition of The South Pacific considers Osiris to be a firm friend and a close ally. We stand behind the legitimate government of the region utterly, and have offered the full support both our own region and of the South Pacific Army to the region’s legitimate delegate, Madjack. We look forward to the imminent restoration of the legitimate government and delegate of the region, and will do everything in our power to assist with such.

We remember, both individually and as a region, when we ourselves were couped a year and a half ago. We were overwhelmed by the unambiguous support we received from the wider international community, and would be remiss if we offered anything less to Osiris. This event must be even more traumatic for the community of Osiris, having been committed by trusted members of the community rather than hostile outside forces. The South Pacific will stand by our friends and allies, wherever they may be, now and for ever.

Ultimately, the Coalition of the South Pacific firmly condemns the deplorable and destructive actions of the traitors in the Osirian government and will support the government and citizens of Osiris in these troubling times to the best of its ability.

Signed,
The Cabinet of the South Pacific
Hileville

I fear I am out of practice. I made a very basic mistake in preparation. Thank you for the caveat.

The time I gave Mad Jack was several seconds too late.
