Allow war button?

Postby Bengera » Sun Nov 15, 2009 6:51 pm

I'd like it if we were allowed to have a war button where we go to countries profiles and click "Go to war". That takes us to a greater page and shows us a list of tactics we use, ranging from blitzkrieg to trench warfare. If we win, we can occupy the nation, but with rebels in our nation, that can soon oust us out of the occupied nation. If we're lucky, we may be able to occupy the nation for a long time.

So what do you guys think?

Unlikely to ever happen. It would be a nightmare to code, the idea has been shot down each time its been suggested, and it would change the dynamics of the game too much.

Exactly. Most people don't know the amount of code that goes into even the simplest of ideas. It would take a long time for THAT to get up and running, not to mention the bugs that would be present. Also, it would be a plus for long-time raiders, who could use their superior numbers to simply overwhelm newer nations, leading to new forms of raiding. It's not a bad idea, it's just that there's a lot of issues that it presents.

There is war in NationStates, just it functions region to region, not nation to nation.

Game suggestions should be made in the Technical Forum if you want anybody with power to see them.

Although this has been brought up so many times I would be highly surprised to see it go anywhere. :p

This would be cool but is probably not gonna happen, although it might be more realistic for this game to press a button to go to war with someone, and it just says you're at war with someone and nothing really happens which is stupid and trivial

Meh, its not such a nightmare to code if you change it a bit, just use a couple of numbers, subtract, add, etc. Numbers could be like population, economy, and defense. And then whoever loses has a little thing like "This nation is being occupied by xxx"

Wouldn't be fun then, though.

1) Should probably go in technical
2) I don't think its workable, it would require a complete overhaul of the software
3) Go join cybernations and join a warlike alliance if you must have a nation-sim with war.

Cybernations is too at the will of the NPO by now. They need to make a new server, is what I think. :\

Well there's tournament edition, which is more violent and resets every 30 days. TFD has had a good showing there, which is impressive since we are the hippie neutral alliance.

I'm not totally informed about CN politics, but I though the Hegemony-Karma war well... ended NPO hegemony if not the NPO itself.

CyberNations? Bleh. I tried playing it three different times, and couldn't stick with it for any more than two days.

How would you allow for the fact that different nations currently exist at different Tech Levels?
How would you allow for the fact that some nations exist at specific locations within regional maps, which may mean that the propsective attacker wouldn't actually have a route available by which to reach them?
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

If I am not mistaken, the now extinct NS2 tried to include both war and trade? Although it may seem a progress in game terms, it actually may make the game slower. NS is at present, quite smooth to play and easy to learn, which is fine if we want more players to play.
"Send forth all legions! Do not stop the attack until the city is taken! Slay them all!"
>Can I invade other people's regions?

Yes. The practice of "region crashing," where a group of nations all move to a region with the aim of seizing the WA Delegate position, is part of the game. Certain groups within NationStates are particularly adroit at this, and can attack very quickly.
>Once I've taken over a region, can I eject everyone else?

You can try. Invader Delegates tend to have very little Regional Influence, which makes ejecting long-time residents difficult. But Delegates can be as kind, generous, evil, or despotic as they wish. It's up to regional residents to elect good Delegates.
